Vibrant set
I haven't had the chance to really dig in and use them yet. Of the entire set, it seems that only one arrived broken. Hence the one star off. The set is very vibrant colors and I am looking forward to really taking them for a test drive.

Good
It’s good but some pastels break after some use

Nice set of Hard Pastel
I have other hard pastels but I like the square shape of the NuPastels for initial layers of my pastel paintings. I deducted 1 star because several of the sticks were broken.

Beautiful bright tones (don't let product photos deceive you)
This is a really beautiful and comprehensive set of pastels. I was looking for a slightly harder pastel (but still affordable) in order to do underpaintings for my pieces. These fit the bill just perfectly. Mine arrived in perfect condition though I would not be bothered if they were broken as that is how I typically use pastels - in smaller, more manageable pieces. They are vibrant, the perfect consistency, and easy to use. The only caution I would say is to not pay attention to the product photos (as currently listed on Amazon) as they show these as quite deep and muted in tone/value and the actual set is quite bright and vibrant. There is still a nice variety of tones, but just be sure to view consumer photos and not purchase based on the product photos that you currently see on Amazon. I made that mistake as I was looking for darker, muted landscape tones. However, I still love the set and think it's incredibly valuable.

Great product, misleading photo.
I have been planning to buy a set of these for awhile now, so finally went for it. I do want to mention what sold me was the muted earth tone colors depicted in the photo for the product, because I like to use that range of colors for my life drawing sessions and loved the look of the set. Upon receiving the product, they are the standard set with the range of bright colors as depicted in other postings. This is not slight on the product, and I will still use them, but it would be most helpful to future buyers to have that muted photo replaced with a corrected version depicting the actual color range. Additionally, if Prismacolor reads these reviews, offering a full set of muted earth tone colors would be spectacular, so here's an opportunity to add to your lineup with a customer requested set.

Prismacolor has pretty good art supplies
Only a few pice a came broken when delivered but that’s not really an issue for me since I’m aware how easy it is for these to break (hint: don’t drop them) and they’re still usable. First time using these pastels for my figure drawing class, it’s a bit of work and definitely not a medium for everyone but the colors are vibrant and you can definitely do skin colors with the large variety of colors given in this set. I’m no expert in using these so my project came out in pretty bright colors , I don’t know if you can layer the colors to mute the colors more but overall I’m happy with the results. For good art supplies the price isn’t too bad but still a bit much. I was lucky and got these cheap by buying it on sale and with reward points for almost nothing at all. If your going to buy these full price at least be sure that this is the medium you like to work with, I would recommend the smaller pastel set but that set won’t work for making skin tones and all the colors are pretty bright. This one has more variety in colors that allow darker and muted shades to come through. Overall, prisma color makes pretty good art supplies so buying this brand isn’t a mistake though I guess very artist has their preference.

The black is nice and dark.
Hello fellow pastel users, I bought this set primarily for the black. As you know, a dark value in black makes your artwork have depth and a full range of values. I'm happy with it's darkeness. I have used the other colors too. They are not chalky. They do not break easily. I like their sharp edge for detail work. I have had the pastels long enough to complete one very detailed drawing. I think a beginner would like these pastels. I'm no expert, but they do not seem to be a 'student grade'/ less quality than other pastels. The box has foam between each stick, which is nice for keeping them safe and clean. I will probably buy this set again when needed.

Air travel
I got these for easy access while traveling. While these sticks can be fragile, and even one was broken upon receiving them, they were still easy & fun to use even when taking them on a plane & across country.

hard pastels of artist quality
If you prefer a harder pastel as opposed to the thicker creamier soft pastel then these are for you. They are somewhat a cross between Inscribe and Conte crayon pastel to give some idea, but in a larger size. The edges are useful to draw and produce a more precise detail but sideways can cover effectively. They blend well and work with all types of pastel paper I have and contain good pigment. I really enjoyed working with these on a portrait once received. The drawback is they are American and, as yet, individual replacement sticks can't be purchased in the UK from my research.

Picture misleading
The pastels are not muted and earthy looking like in the picture but bright and vivid. Otherwise great pastels.

Great pastels
Only used for a short time ,these pastels are first class, yes they are expensive but once used you can see why. Great product

The best quality pastels around but impossible to replace individually at reasonable cost in UK.
These are some of the best quality pastels on the market today, it is a pity that it is impossible to replenish single pastel slicks in the UK at reasonable cost.
