Great flat iron, even for a doofus klutz like me!
First time ever using a flat iron on my klutzy self and it WORKED! Washed and tried the sample argan oil conditioner that came with the purchase, and it was very moisturizing - brought out all the curls my poor, frizzy hair could muster. Used some Nexxus heat protector spray I got at a local drug store last night, and then went to work on the hair. Used 390F, iron heated up very nicely, was super easy to use and it really did GLIDE across the hair. I mean, it's not like a professional stylist, but this is exactly what I need. The dual voltage is such a plus - just travel and go. Not cheap, but I really love the feel of the hair afterward. So yes, it's a 5 star winner!

Love it!
Bought this iron for my wife after much investigation. Turned out to be the right choice, and she loves it. Since I don't use it, I asked her for a few reasons she like this one better than others I've purchased for her over the years. Here's what she said - 1 - Travel Pouch. It comes with a really nice, padded, silk storage bag (or at least it looks/feels like silk) with a drawstring. Once the iron cools, she stores it in this case; although she did say that she uses a Velcro-type band to bundle the long cord, since it doesn't really fit well stuffed inside. She prefers it that way though, so the metal ends on the plug won't scratch the ceramic surfaces. 2 - Long round cord. The cord is plenty long and round, as opposed to the flat two-wire cords that normally come with blow-dryers and curling irons. Seems to be more 'tangle-free' than the flat ones. Along with that goes the swivel. The cord swivels/spins freely in the end of the iron to help prevent tangling. 3 - Plates are somehow non-stick, and despite junk she sprays in her hair (I guess to aid in straightening or whatever) nothing sticks to the plates. 4 - She says this iron, due to its rounded edges on the plates, allows you to make 'waves' in your hair. Others she's used do not. 5 - Plates heat very quickly and evenly, and make perfect contact with each other. 6 - Plates are smooth and slick, and has never pulled a single hair. Other models have always somehow snagged random hairs and pulled or broken them. I imagine this has something to do with how the plates are mounted to the handle, but in this case they've clearly solved the problem. 7 - the LCD readout turns from bright blue to bright green when ready to use. The readout is a little hard to read if you're left-handed (like my wife and I), since it's angled in the handle to be easier to read while held in the right hand. In any case, whatever temperature you set it to, you can watch it increasing in temp on the readout, and once up to your target temp, the background turns green. This is great if you wear glasses and aren't wearing them while you're ironing your hair - you know at a glance if you're up to temp. Very cool. 8 - The On/Off switch is impossible to accidentally turn off. Apparently others she's used are easily turned off by accident, while this one has on/off switches in a perfect spot to avoid that. Some other things she mentioned that she likes about this unit are that the temp is adjustable. (Maybe others aren't?) She also likes that it's a good weight, not too heavy, not too big, and is comfortable to hold for long periods. Bottom line is that she believes this is the best flat iron she's ever had.

1st iron I've ever owned
I can't write this review from the perspective of an experienced flat-iron buyer, however I had enough experience with other people's irons, and I knew what I was looking for when I was buying one. I first purchased a conair flat iron - which using it once told me that is not the iron I wanted. I returned it quickly and bought this one. That purchase of the Conair iron told me to look for one that had these features: plates that perfectly close parallel(the Conair didn't - pinching and fraying my hair that went through the iron on the edges), round-edged plates that went to the edges of the iron(because I bought it for the purpose of curling - and the other one made a line in my hair where the plate ended and the plastic began), a hot enough iron to make the curl stay, auto shut-off, and plates that my hair slid easily through. On all of these issues the HSI has been perfect. The LCD screen is nicer than I suspected - knowing the exact temperature and how fast it is heating is especially nice (you can watch the degrees go incrementally upward in the 15-20 second heating time - it indeed heats that fast). The floating plates work wonderfully, my hair curls better because I can press harder on the plates so my hair gets a tight push against the hot plate for better curling. My only issue with this one is even though I like the auto shut off feature - it often shuts off while I am still curling. It's not a problem if I notice it quickly, but once I noticed it wasn't curling my hair anymore, and realized it may have shut of 5-10 minutes ago (which wasted that time). This iron is well worth what I paid for it so far - I would recommend this to a friend. It's quality has been great - and the long cord (9 feet or something) is super nice - I use it all the time. I haven't used the oil that it comes with in my hair yet, but I do use a heat protectant and it works even better, keeps the curl longer, and my hair is softer. I use my iron at about 390 - and that gets pretty hot on my hair. Keep in mind if you are reading my review however, I have perfectly straight hair, and I only use mine to really curl.

Great flat iron at a reasonable price
I have hard to smooth hair and this iron does a good job to give me the looks I want without having to use a high setting. It glides through my hair and doesn’t pull or snag like my last flat iron. I’ve had no major issues so far and I’m happy with my purchase. The price was reasonable too. Oh, I also love the red satin pouch that HSI provides to store the iron.

Heats quickly and straightens great!
My Mother has this same straightener so I decided to buy it from here as well. I am impressed with how quickly it heats up (and cools down) and it does a much better job than my old Chi straightener. I've been using it for almost a year now and haven't had any issues with it at all.

Fantastic Customer Service and Product
Originally when I received the item, bits were missing and when I plugged the straightener in it would making hissing and popping noises and turn itself off. The seller was fantastic about sending out a replacement with all the bits right away. I love my new straightener. It is comfortable to hold and works really well.
