This is great machine overall that has a few issues.
The media could not be loaded. This is great machine with a few issues. First, I really don't understand what this self adjustment does. The manual says to wait before adjusting the grinder until you've made at least 100 to 150 espressos. That seems like a bit of overkill to me. They don't even explain what this self adjustment period actually does. I made a lot of espressos without seeing any difference from shot the shot during the self adjustment period. I adjusted the grinder and things are getting better now. The espresso is tasting better. I really don't think this adjustment period does anything at all. One of the other issues I've had is with the steam wand. Compared to other machines I've used the steam wand is very easy to not put together correctly or to have the internal component move out of position which means all you will get is hot milk with no foam whatsoever. It's very easy to put the metal sleeve over the rubber plug and only push it to the last rubber ring but you need to push it further. I'm attaching a video so you can see what I mean. That's one of the issues I had that was causing me to get nothing but hot milk and I was ready to return this machine. Once I figured out what I was doing wrong I thought I had it all under control and I'd never have another issue with the steam wand. I was wrong. When you put it back together after cleaning or if you drop the metal sleeve tip down, say in the dishwasher for drying, the internal component can be pushed back inside the sleeve. If this happens, you will not make anything other than hot milk. Be very aware of not pushing that internal black component back in the sleeve. If you're very careful putting the milk wand together and you shouldn't have any issues making great foamy milk. The last issue I have with this machine is not with the machine so much but with the instruction manual. It's really not great. There's really not much in the way of troubleshooting. There are far too many diagrams that are hard to understand. They really should explain things a bit more rather than relying on diagrams. Overall, I would say I'm happy with the machine, but there were numerous times I was about to return it due to all the problems I was having. One other thing I will say is that you should buy good beans from a local roaster if you have one. Luckily, I live in an area with a ton of coffee roasters. Also, just because you have a good roster in your area doesn't necessarily mean you'll like the beans. If it's a local roster and they're not printing the roasted date on the bag go somewhere else. If the beans are too fresh, you shouldn't be using them yet. I discovered that myself after doing some research and probably getting a bag of beans that were far too fresh to be using. This is something nobody explains anywhere unless you do some research.

Changed my mornings
By far the best purchase I've made recently. The machine automatically grinds, packs, and extrudes the beans. It's extremely easy to use and has many features including a puck disposal, grind size adjuster, bean freshness seal, auto off and purging function, makes hot water very fast, and you can select the strength and size of your espresso. It has a decently sized disposal bin (Can hold about 8 double shots worth of espresso pucks before needing to be refilled). The water tank is a little small, especially if you're using the coffee or steam functions. Overall 10/10 product.

It makes a tasty coffee
"We should get an espresso machine" said my wife. "I like espresso." "Me too!" I replied. "Let's buy one!" This seemed like an easy proposition. But down the rabbit hole I went, and I soon realized that I was on the verge of becoming a "coffee guy" - one of those people who has Very Strong Opinions about pressurized portafilters and very expensive and clever conical burr grinders. The kind of guy who speaks in hushed tones about steam pressure and cream and uses the word "extraction" a lot. Since no one in my family want to spend every morning waiting an hour for me to tweak grind settings or calibrate the pre-infusion temperatures, and everyone agreed that I do not need another obsessive hobby, we started looking at automatic machines. We quickly decided that pod-based machines were right out for a variety of reasons, and similarly decided that one of those touch-screen possibly-self-aware machines were just going to be way way way out of our price range, we settled on the 1200. I checked reviews and videos and so forth, and we decided it was a good place to land. We couldn't be happier. Okay, okay, it probably doesn't make the absolute *best* espresso in the world. I'm sure somewhere, some geriatric italian barista is crossing himself and spitting every time I press a button on this thing. And it's loud. When it grinds, boy howdy you hear it grinding, and when it steams, you hear steaming and clunking and all manner of mechanical noises. I expected that, but it's still loud. The buttons lack a bit in terms of haptic feedback - until something actually happens I'm never entirely sure I've pressed one, so I always have that half second of "oh no, did I break it?" until i hear a pump spring to life. And it's big - this isn't a "stick it on the shelf and hide it away" kind of machine. It dwarfs my pressure cooker. And while the grinder does a fine job, you don't get access to it independently - you have only limited options for dosing (the 3-setting "aroma" control) or grind size (there's a knob inside the grinder itself) and the only time you see the grounds is in the "spent grounds" bin. I understand there's a way to fiddle with the temperature that involves opening panels and flipping switches; I have not tried it and I probably will not. But those minor quibbles aside, it pulls a very respectable shot of espresso; I've already had a better flat white after a day of randomly poking at buttons than I have at my local mermaid-themed coffee shop, and even a straight shot of espresso was pleasant, well-flavored, and full-bodied. The milk steamer is acceptable - nothing to write home about, but it gets the job done and I've even managed to make some incredibly rudimentary latte art. It's easy to clean, and the AquaClean filter makes that part even nicer. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to use too - shove a cup underneath and press play and you're basically 80% of the way there. It's easy enough that everyone in my family can stumble into the kitchen and spit out a cuppa without thinking about it. It even makes plain coffee, which is great for the family members who just wants a cup of something hot and black and none of this continental nonsense. (I suspect the "coffee" is more akin to an americano, but I haven't been able to verify that.) Time will tell if this thing holds up, but I have high hopes and good experience so far. It works better than the bargain espresso machines I see everywhere, seems to have a pretty good grind dialed in at the factory, and while it's a bit on the pricy side it's still a lot cheaper than the others in its category (and only marginally more expensive than a plain machine) and you don't need to buy a fancy grinder to go with it. And shipping was ludicrously fast.

Not as good as the Saeco Odea Giro I replaced it with
Have not owned the machine for a week yet (about 20 pulls of coffee) and grinder chute has already jammed. Pucks are never formed, rather just a slurry of coffee grounds in the container/drip tray. Very dissatisfied with this performance and can not recommend buying one. Customer support suggested I should pull 6 - 8 coffees at new grind settings until I get to the one that gives the flavor I am used to (finest grind) and pucks are dispensed in tact. I will update reveiw at that time and decide whether to return the machine or not.

Luv it
veteran coffee geek; roast my own blends. I've had 5 or six super automatics; bought this to replace a refurb that was getting hinky and ended up taking it to our second place in Fla. Easy to set up and easier to use, even the wife has no probs. Brews great tasting coffee and espresso. Decent bean capacity, water is like most machines I've had. Cleaning was simple enough, just follow the directions. Seriously considering buying another to replace my older machine at home. And the price is not bad.

Good super automatic espresso machine
Setup was easy enough although the instructions are very limited and not detailed enough. It is easy to use but again instructions were not clear on the different functions or sizes of drinks. Had to search online for information that wasn’t available in the manual or philips webpage. Note it does take some time to self adjust to get a good espresso. I went though a 1lb bags of beans before I started to get a decent drink that was not watery. My current grind adjustment is set at 1 for a fine grind. This may impact a coffee drink be aware you may need to adjust the grind and there is some information that unit takes 100 runs to self adjust. Other down side is the amount of water it uses, it completes a rinse cycle usually on startup and most times on shut down. You will constantly be emptying the base tray and filling the water reservoir. Overall it is easy to use and will make good espresso and cappuccinos but there are some down sides.

Good coffee machine. A bit expensive tho
Good coffee machine. The design is nice, the interface is neat. The coffee is really good. Few cons : it's a bit noisy, it often cleans itself by running water through the system (thus emptying the water tank and filling up the waste pretty quickly). But overall, it's a very good product.

Fantastic for Espresso and Cappuccino
I got this to replace a finally-failed Saeco Odea Giro Espresso machine, which died after several repairs over 12 years of good use. This new Philips branded version clearly shows the same heritage. But much improved ergonomics! The grounds bin is a front pull-out unit, and the water reservoir is also a pull-to-front item. Excellent! The LatteGo milk frother works very well, if more than a bit LOUD. Basically, load it up with milk, and press the Cappucino button, and a nice frothy hot drink follows without any effort. Excellent! Much better than a steam wand. Espresso, single or double, is similarly easy, and the results taste very good (we use good beans, of course). Downsides: the water level setting for Americano ("regular" watered-down coffee) requires a few contortions to adjust -- see the manual for that. The next models up probably have extra buttons there. But we want espresso and Cappuccino, and that's what this machine does. It does them both very well.

Bad quality
So dssapointed with my purchase. First of all, I am surpeised (not in good way) with the cheap material that used for this product. More important, the quality of the coffee that gives you is not good at all. It is easy to use for sure. But when we drink the coffee, it is not really what we expect from Philips. We've had another Philips coffee machine for several years (EP3360) which was really good. But it's now broken after 5 years of a good service. Unfortunately, this 2200 version really dissaponited us.

I really love this machine. Is it perfect?
Really works well. Easy to use, fantastic coffee. Use the Lavazza Espresso coffee for best results. What would I change? The hopper design is okay but I find I have to move the beans towards the grinder once it starts getting low and it is hard to fill on the counter if you have cupboards above your coffee station. The spout for the milk could be positioned a bit better so that the cup doesn't have to be at the edge, and the last think I would like is a one button program so that I can program my cappuccino, 2 shots of espresso and one coffee in one cup. This sound nit picky and it is but overall I would buy this again in a heartbeat and very happy with the purchase. The coffee is on par with my Nespresso without the cost and waste of the pods. I figure my payback will be in less than a year while enjoying a fresh amazing coffee experience.
