Bee Guards Work
We have used Perky Pet Pinch-Waist Oriole feeders for years, and they have always been great. They have held up well under year-round exposure to South Florida sun, they attracted both Spot-breasted and Baltimore Orioles, as well as hummingbirds, for dozens of visits a day, and they held plenty of nectar. And for years we never had problems with bees. This year, however, we developed a massive bee problem. We'd hang out a new full feeder in the morning, and come home from work to find drained and literally half-full of dead bees. They would swarm in within seconds of hanging it out, and chase off any bird that came close. We tried everything to stop the bees: we put out a high-concentrate nectar in a feeder (one that doesn't trap them - they would drain it in hours too), we took the oriole feeder down for a week and then put up a fresh new one in a different spot, we went to the nursery and bought bunches of bee-friendly flowering plants, etc. We did all of this together, and still, within a minute or two, the bees would find the new feeder and start swarming it again. So, even though I'd never had much luck with previous bee-guard designs, I started looking for a new feeder with bee guards. Every one I found had at best mixed reviews of the bee guards. But this design looked promising to me, and it sounded like the people for whom the guards weren't working were all saying that it wasn't a design flaw, but simply a matter of the springs being too weak. I decided to try it, thinks that even if it didn't work, I might be able to upgrade the spring strength myself. As soon as I hung up this feeder, despite not having a feeder up for another week, there was a bee on it, before I even had a chance to step back inside. She checked out the bee guards, but didn't seem to find any sugar and left. For the rest of the day I saw individual bees do this, but never got a swarm. And within 10 minutes I had Orioles on it too! The next day, when I came home from work, there was a cluster of about 8 bees around one of the guards, and they were clearly getting sips of nectar from around the edge of the guard. All three of the other guards were clear. individual bees would periodically try them, but they seemed not to be able to get anything. I watched the bees for several minutes, and despite pushing with all their might, I never saw one even get close to pushing the guard open. A week has now gone by, and we still get the cluster of a few bees on one or two of the guards, but no bees have gotten into the feeder, and because their numbers are so low, they usually don't bother the birds. I'm still getting plenty of Orioles and hummingbirds. While I wish the bees would leave it alone completely, it so far has worked well enough that I would definitely recommend this feeder. It also seems to be made of sturdier plastic and designed better for easy cleaning.

Does leak a little
This is not a perfect product. When filled into the bulb section of the feeder, it does drip nectar. It stops dripping when it reaches the tank level. The problem is that we have never found a feeder that does not have this issue or one even worse. It is difficult to clean as it grows dirty on the inside of the bulb where it empties into the tank, but this takes several days. Most bottle brushes are not built in a way that they can reach this area needing to be cleaned but such brushes (though large and cumbersome) can be found. Despite all these negative comments, I have to say we are repeat buyers of this product because we have found nothing better.

Faulty Design but overall good feeder
Very small bottle opening. Will be hard to clean. Finally brought this out to use it 9 months after I bought it. I had bought it as a back up to another one I had that was getting ready to fail. Unfortunately it is too late to return it. The seal between the upper and lower molded pieces was bad during manufacturing and when screwed together leaks or weeps. Most of the nectar is lost while hanging. More specifically the top half screws onto the bottom similar to a mayonnaise jar. The contact between the two, when screwed tightly together, fails. UPDATE: The wife wanted to restart feeding the orioles and found this on Amazon coincidentally. This five years later. They still haven't tackled the leaking in this product. The connection between the upper and lower halves of the feeding dispenser portion do not seat with each other causing a leak. The fluid weeps out of the seam between the two when assembled filled and set for use. The seam is such that a capillary action occurs and the fluid or nectar is suspended at the seam. Bees feed at this seem and harass the birds as they try to feed. Even tightly screwed together the leaking still occurs which results in the loss of nectar. As the orioles land on the perches the feeder swings and more nectar flows out towards the seam. I am trying to resolve this leak with gasket material. In the interim I have attached a 6 ounce fishing weight to the feeder from below to stabilize the feeder when birds land and take off. Slowing the often excessive swinging will slow the nectar from leaking from both the poorly constructed connection and the feeder holes. The bee deterrent balls are effected. This is a nice feeder but after five plus years you would think they would provided an O-ring to resolve this issue.

This was great for the spring migration of orioles
I love this oriole feeder. It was easy to fill, easy to clean, and I especially loved the retractable perches. I had tons of Baltimore Orioles and Orchard Orioles this past spring. There was always a group of birds at this feeder as they are attracted to the orange color like hummingbirds are attracted to red colors. We used a grape jelly recipe that we found on the internet and we had to fill this feeder every day because the birds drained it every day. The migration lasted 3-4 weeks and then the birds began to move north. We were thrilled to have been able to help the birds regain their strength for their further travels north.

Worked well after a quick fix!
Read in a review that this product leaked. Another review suggested using plumbers tape to wrap around the thread on the base. That took care of the leak! I’m happy with it!

Finaly one that is bee proof!!!
I have tried many feeders claiming to be bee proof, but the bees get inside of them. This one is bee proof. However, the jar is not glass and it is a cheap plastic. I wish they makeit larger and have it in glass instead.

Wish it was glass not plastic
This is the only type feeder the birds will drink from, but I wish it was glass and / or had a bigger hole for easier cleaning

It keeps the wasps from getting inside
The feeding holes are accessible by orioles and hummingbirds but wasps are not able to crawl inside because of the design. There is a large container for nectar. The wasps still congregate at the feeding stations but not as much as other feeders. Like many, I found that the wasps were able to feed at the seams and there was also some leakage. This was resolved by putting painter's tape along the seam, as recommended by another reviewer. I bought this on sale so it was a far price, but the regular price is high. The container isn't easy to clean because of the thin neck. Overall, I give it a 4-star rating.

Pretty feeder, a bit hard to clean
Bought this last summer as for the first time I had Oriole with my multitude of hummers. They didn't eat from the feeder and my hummers didn't either. I think I purchased it to late in the season. Hopefully next year it will get used as the Orioles make a mess trying to get the juice from my hummingbird feeders.

Disappointing
Hummingbirds seem to like it more than the Orioles (I think the Orioles have a hard time getting past the built-in gate). Also, the feeder must leak at times; I have to fill it more often than my previous feeder. And within a few days, 2 of the 4 built in perches have broken. Yes, I’m a little disappointed with the product.

It Leaks !
I bought 3 of these ! one for myself and 2 as gifts. my son told me his leaked and I never really noticed. I though the raccoons were into it. so I brought mine in for the night and noticed it leaks too. I am so disappointed. this feeder is beautiful and with just water and sugar in it, and the globe shape, the liquid reflects the background. so I bought 2 as gifts. very much money for a cheap product. Shame on you !

Cheap, difficult to clean, don’t waste your money
I have owned a few different styles and this is by far the worse. Hard to clean, no matter how hard I scrub or use brushes to clean holes and the nubs that are supposed block the holes there is still black mould. The cheap plastic nubs that are supposed to block the holes are held by very thin plastic arms and bend easily so after one cleaning then don’t block the holes and now bugs get in. The clear plastic that holds the liquid discolours in a very short time, from the sun. Very disappointed. Wished they made the same style I bought years ago and lasted for a long time, unfortunately, it was old and the plastic became brittle and I was forced to replace it. Hope there is a better style that I can purchase next year.
