The last feeder you'll ever have to buy

Reader's Digest summary: Durable, 100% squirrel proof, maintenance free, great customer service. Expensive, but worth it. I have had two of these feeders for nearly 3 years and couldn't be happier with how they have worked. Until some user error (I'll get into later) they have worked flawlessly. Even the smartest squirrels can't defeat them. When they hang on to the feeder, the outer-spring-activated screen slides down and covers the holes on the inner tube that holds the seed. It is the first feeder that I've found that is 100% squirrel proof. Now about the user error. We left our house-sitter in charge of filling the feeders while we were away. Unfortunately, she did not attach the lids securely when she refilled them. The lids separated from the feeder body which exposed the seed tube and the plastic rod that holds it together. That was all the squirrels needed to do their dirty deed. They gnawed through the rods and released the feeder bodies. Once on the ground, the squirrels chewed on the collars and several other parts. The feeders could still hold seed, but the spring mechanism no longer worked. I called the manufacturer to buy the parts that were needed to repair them. I explained what happened and they asked for some pictures which I supplied. They said the damage was more extensive than I thought. One was not repairable and they other needed several parts. To my amazement, they provided a refurbished feeder to replace the unrepairable one and and all of the necessary parts to fix the other one AT NO CHARGE. They even covered shipping. There was no begging or pleading involved. I have never experienced better customer service in my life. Their feeders are expensive, but they work great and truly are guaranteed for life as I learned first hand. You will never regret buying from this company.

Best squirrel proof feeder

Bought this almost 3 years ago and is still going strong. I normally use a woodpecker seed mix that squirrels LOVE but despite trying daily have been unable to crack the code on this one. The bars are too strong to damage by chewing, and larger birds like jays are still able to land and access the food. I keep it on a pole that is leaned, so squirrels can’t use the pole as a foothold to reach the feeding holes. I’ll still scatter the squirrels a token amount of the good seeds/nuts but they no longer hog the bulk of it for themselves, and for the most part are left looking around on the ground for leftovers that the birds dropped. Well worth the money, since I had bought several feeders in the past that squirrels chewed through in less than a year.

Bear Essentials

My Squirrel-Proof Classic feeder has seen many years of happy birds and frustrated squirrels! A big, hungry black bear though is just too much! We started bringing in the feeder at night. But if we forget, this is what happens. I believe the bear actually jumps up and down on the feeder to break it open. I've repaired it multiple times over the years and it kept on ticking. This time, however, he/she actually broke the inner tube! Ah well, rest in final peace. It was a very good run!

Well Worth It!

I absolutely love this bird feeder! I was initially hesitant to spend the money on another bird feeder because I was really beginning to think no feeder could be truly squirrel proof. Boy, was I wrong! This brand was recommended to me on a Facebook bird page I follow. This is the first bird feeder that squirrels have absolutely no luck with. They can’t seem to get to the food, no matter how many times they tried. They even tried biting it, like they did the other ones, but can’t destroy this one. I think they are finally starting to give up. I’m finally not wasting tons of bird food anymore on squirrels. That itself saves me a lot of money right there. I highly recommend this brand!

The birds love it, the squirrels don't!

It is a sturdy, nice looking feeder. It handles many birds and the squirrels come but are defeated. It is a little tricky to fill as the top must be just right for everything to work. It doesn't hold a lot of seeds and you have to be very careful not to overfill or you'll have seeds all over the place. Also I wish the cord that suspends it was adjustable so that when I hang it from a metal arm from my deck, it doesn't sit to low. Once you adapt to all that, it is a great feeder.

It really is squirrel proof!

We like this feeder so much we bought a second one! The squirrels will climb the pole and sometimes jump on but they can't get the seeds out! It is very well made - feels sturdy, unlike the ones you find in the store. They aren't cheap but they really are worth the one time expense.

Keeps the squirrels away

Kept the squirrels away and the capacity is good for the number of birds that visit my yard. I use feed that squirrels don't like but will be trying the songbird feed soon.

FINALLY

We have tried so many things to keep the squirrels off of our previous feeders: the tallest stake we could find, baffles, spikes, water guns, etc. Finally we found this. Now the squirrels stay in their rightful place, groveling for dropped seeds on the ground while the birds get their fill on the feeder.

Expensive but the best!

Effectively stops squirrels and large birds taking all food and really easy to take apart and clean. Not sold as weight adjustable but I added 3 small 1mm thick washers which allow a woodpecker and starlings to feed. I've also wired a plant saucer which catches a lot of the waste. Highly recommended.

Keeps the squirrels out!

Having already purchased one for our front garden it was time to replace one of the feeders in the rear garden and this is the goto feeder for us.So easy to fill and clean and its design as attracted more birds.One in particular being a nuthatch who likes to hang upside down on the feeder.Something they were unable to do on the previous caged feeder.

Squirrels are starving

Our squirrels are totally frustrated. I watched a number of times as they climbed onto the feeder but no matter what they tried, they just could not get at the food. They tried chewing through the metal, stretching their paws through the holes and one even tried to take the lid off! Nothing worked for them. It's been two weeks and they appear to have stopped trying - all they do now is scrounge the ground for seeds dropped by the birds. The previous two bird feeders we tried got destroyed by the squirrels inside of a week. No longer do I have to endure my wife screaming and banging on the window to get the squirrels to stop! Some semblance of peace and tranquility has returned. But alas, I am fearful that the poor squirrels might go hungry this winter, so I am hatching a plan to secretly feed them something through alternate means! But the birds are now safe and my wife is now happy.

Excellent Product-Would Buy Again

Skeptical that a bird feeder can really be squirrel proof after having bought 2 (not from this company) only to have them chewed up by squirrels or the bird food emptied in one day. What makes this bird feeder different is its construction. It's designed in such a way that when something heavy hangs on it, such as your hand, the wire exterior prevents the holes of the bird feeder from lining up with the exterior, thus the squirrel cannot have access to the bird food. I like the wire exterior because the squirrels can't chew it. What they have been doing is hanging upside down on it and swinging, thus spraying the food on the ground below (they really are clever, aren't they?). But I can live with that and our bird food lasts a week, instead of a day. We have our usual beautiful cardinals, Blue Jays, woodpeckers, red finches, chickadees here in the Ottawa area come around and now even mourning doves who eat off the ground! It is so nice to enjoy the birds--not the squirrels--and to not have to run out every few minutes and scare the annoying squirrels away and to have our bird feeder remain intact and unchewed. This is an example of well thought out design and construction and I find it refreshing to have found a company that believes in superior quality products, not to mention they have a warranty on their bird feeders (how many companies do that?!). Even the packaging had built in instructions. The thought that went into this product was appreciated. The price we paid for this model is equivalent to the two bird feeders we've already purchased, so we feel that if this one lasts us more than the other two, we will have obtained good value. We will be purchasing from this company again and I have asked for their Squirrel Buster Plus as a gift!

Truly keeps squirrels away!

In the past I naively bought all kinds of plastic-based bird feeders. They were all nice to look at in their own unique way, but I always underestimated squirrels' willingness to chew away at the plastic in order to get to the food. I've also had issues with larger birds making a run for the feeders, eating up everything with a day or two, and scaring away the smaller ones. I bought this Brome feeder in November of 2019 and I can honestly say that I've gotten rid of my squirrel and large bird problems since then. Black-capped chickadees, blue jays and cardinals now come over every day to eat sunflower seeds while undesirable squirrels and larger birds are unable to get at the seeds thanks to the weighted cage. And the metal construction prevents the squirrels from gnawing at it. The feeder also disassembles easily for cleaning. This feeder *is* more expensive than what I bought in the past, but since it's the only one with which I've had actual success I'll be buying the same thing again if I ever need to get a second one. If you've had similar problems and can afford it, you should definitely give this bird feeder a try.
