Tradeoffs against the Stihl scissor head...
I already had the Stihl RG-KM connected to a KM131R power head. I was curious about the Stens, so I bought one to compare. Short answer: they both work great, but with some tradeoffs. I was going to mount the Stens to a shaft to fit the same Kombi motor, but then I realised that it would fit my FS-311. That gives me a real harness and handlebar grips. Comfy! The 311 has a 28mm shaft, so no spacer sleeve required. It takes the largest spline adapter. Assembly is where I hit my biggest complaint of the Stens: Rather than use a longer cuff with 2 bolts, they opted for a single bolt cuff and a pointed set screw. This will cause permanent damage to the tube. My solution is to use the set screw to mark the tube, then drill a hole for it to pass through. Anti-rotation accomplished, and I can still change the head back to my wide swath poly-blade head when I want to motor through thick weeds. btw that big poly head is great, but I end up looking like I fell into a vat fo wheat grass smoothie. That aside, the Sten cuts great. It is very loud, and draws a fair amount of power. It has counter-rotating blades, but the bottom blade has the most exposed surface to the grass, so it will still lay down some material and miss cutting. A couple of swings cleans it up. Also the spinnig blads will spark if you bump into concrete (like the edge of a driveway). Now the Stihl RG-KM is very different. It oscillates, so nothing gets pushed out of the way. It is quieter, but there is a noticible vibration due to the oscillatory motion. It cuts so smoothly that I have sliced right through the ground under the grass without noticing. It is more expensive than the Stens, but it does come with a shaft. Power demand seems much lower, but I have no way to quantify that. It does spool up faster, and coasts longer. With the Stens, it stops dead as soon as I let off the throttle. The Stihl has a much beefier gearbox, but then there is a lot more going on in there. It is a bit heavier. So, the Stihl costs more, cuts better, uses less power, and comes with a shaft. It is configured for a Kombi engine, but I suspect that it could probably be fitted to a Stihl with a 1" shaft. The Stens is cheaper, and parts are available at a known cost. It is loud and soaks up a lot of power. btw I oil the blades of these units before and after I use them. I suspect that the Stens will quiet down as I use it more. The Stens does recommend sharpening the blades every 10 hours. That will be a pain. My approach will be a spare set of blades so that I can keep a set sharpened. And the Stihl? At the time that I purchesed it blade life and cost were a mystery. I will check with the dealer again. My recommendations: if you have a Kombi motor, go for the Stihl. If you want to adapt to a different system, the Stens is still a great option. Both are a dream to use. Caveat: I hate string trimmers. I use a Badger-head with poly blades for light stuff, and the largest Stihl poly head for big growth. That huge swath really speeds things up. It is faster than my clearing saw for everything but saplings. Both the Stihl and the Stens are recommended by their manufacturers as edgers. Are they nuts? I would only do that if somebody else is paying for the blades.

Works great, but absolutely NOT for commercial use.
These rotary scissors are quality, heavy duty, and certainly sharp. They do precisely what is advertised. But a few things to note which are basically detrimental to commercial or daily use. for context, I work weekly cutting and trimming lawns. I have about 4-5 lawns on a typical day. I thought the rotary scissors would be great for mulch beds and areas where I needed to control the clippings. however, i've come to a conclusion that this attachment is not practical for commercial use. the pros: - no need for safety glasses, no flinging debris into unwanted areas - great for strictly reel mowed lawns and for homeowners (cutting lawn once/twice a week) - durable, will last long cons (outweigh the pros imo): - heavy. I am a physically fit person, so I thought this would be of no issue. but it absolutely is. my forearms tired out after like 10-15 mins of use. I found myself not wanting to trim additional areas because of this. It became more of a hassle than anything, and on jobs with a lot of trimming this is exhausting. I felt relieved when I switched back to the string trimmer to finish some jobs. - trimming coverage. the head of this attachment has a cutting radius that is substantially smaller than your average string trimmer. it takes forever to cover the same ground with this head as opposed to covering it with a string trimmer. way less time efficient. - if you cut anywhere above 1.5" to 2.0", I wish you luck in attempting to not scalp the lawn. When working in commercial use, time is of the essence. I find that I had to be extremely careful to float the lawn and not scalp any areas. due to it's weight, it can be difficult to maintain an even cut. add swiftness into the equation and it makes it twice as difficult. - the clippings. this one is unfortunate because I wouldn't have expected it's sole purpose to become a disadvantage. Due to the scissor action, the clippings start to pile up in any areas higher than 2.0". It actually becomes a challenge to maintain a level cutting height because you cannot see what you're cutting with all the clippings piling on the head. another drawback here is that you have to clean these clippings as well. they would need to be blown off, otherwise you leave bunches of grass where you trim. - it's loud. louder than a string trimmer head. Hearing protection is necessary with this. - it is expensive. so in conclusion, I highly advise you NOT to purchase this for commercial use.

Great piece of kit.
Searched everywhere for a rotary head to for a Ryobi petrol brush cutter and found this. Fitted easily in a matter of minutes ( just 2 screws). Comes with a number of adaptors for different drive shafts and shims for different shaft diameters. Worked straight out of the box with no adjustment. Cuts perfectly and doesn't dig into the ground due to the base plate. Anybody in 2 minds I would suggest going for it. They are expensive but I've had to replace a drivers side window this year already after a stone came off my strimmer, proving how dangerous they are. This is worth its weight in gold if it means no more flying debris. Look like it will need regular lubrication but thats not a problem.

You will never use a line trimmer (weed whacker) again
I installed this on my Makita split shaft line trimmer attachment. I use the 36V power head. Install was easy and straight forward, 5 minutes, you only need a hex wrench. Sleeves are included for multiple shaft diameters and drive shaft patterns. A wrap around cutter guard is also included. Anyway, out to try it, I had heard it was noisy, I didn't find it particularly so... a different sound, but not be really louder that a line trimmer. And cutting... wow... effortless, clean cuts and no stuff being thrown around. Careful on your height control because you can go low with this is that's your thing... This is the way to go if you want superior cut results without getting on your hands and knees and using grass shears to hand trim. This was my first time using a cutter like this and I'm happy with the result. I'll get better with it too I'm sure. Specs say you can use this as an edger, ie. right into the dirt and along walkways, driveways, beds, etc. to get a crispy clean edge but I'm going save this for trimming, I imagine the dirt will full the blades quickly and I like my wheeled edger. Anyways, it's not cheap, but it's cheaper than a Maruyama LB30 or similar, particularly if you already have a trimmer you can install it on.

Brilliant
You should get one of these PRS's (Power Rotary Scissors) - they make a massive difference (compared to a line trimmer). It also does everything a brush cutter blade does - but more easily and safely. Far easier to mow little undulations and hard to reach spots. You can use it for pathway edging but I still use my vertical blade edger for that - leaves a sharper edge but the PRS would leave a better edge than a line trimmer. It doesn't dig in like a line trimmer. They are expensive and do require more and regular maintenance but the benefits are definitely worth it plus I'll never have to reload line again. If it's inside your budget you won't regret getting one

Game changer
I love this rotary scissors!!! it's a game changer for people who cut thier grass very short. I was a bit getting frustrated to cut grass in narrow areas with string trimmer. It's easy to sculp on short cut lawn with it and it doesn't cut sharp. This rotary scissors is very useful! I don't need a string trimmer anymore. I also went to my friend's house to help her with cleaning up her weed jungle yard. I used the rotary scissors and just chopped tons of weed by going left and right. A couple of notes though, it doesn't work with weed with thick stem. scissors seized up multiple times on that. It is also HEAVY. I'm not physically that strong. Until I get used to the weight, my hands and arms would be sore after use. Overall, this is a fantastic tool.

Scissors
They are very heavy, cuts to low. No good for long edges it takes the grass back to bare dirt, worst than a whipper snipper. Ok for 1/2 inch long grass. Needs a deeper bowl underneath to raise them off the ground. Very disappointed especially at the price
