Works as expected, but wish there was an option for WiFi connectivity too without another module
This works as expected, but I wish there was also a way to allow WiFi connectivity too. Perhaps another piece of hardware is needed for WiFi.

This is a must accessory.
Bought this as an afterthought for my Renogy DC DC charger. Very glad I did. I was able to detect that I had a bad panel. AND I can adjust the charge controller for different max AMP settings. Great for when I want to charge off a cigarette lighter! One quip. It doesn't reconnect via Bluetooth automatically. So I have to "add new device" all the time. Only takes a few seconds, but it's annoying.

Disappointing - I used to be a Renogy fan
My experience with the BT-2 spans over a year. After finding emails for US based staff for Renogy, I ended up interacting (via email) with an Engineering director in China. Environment and background: I'm in California. Prior to the series of activities associated with the BT-2, I had purchased various Renogy products including five LiFePO 100 amp-hour batteries, six solar controllers, ten or twelve solar panels (all at least 100 watt, hard-framed and flexible), 12v DC power 1000 watt inverters, and various cables, tails, fuses inline power meters and BT-1 modules... all to build a few solar generators Pros: The panels, cables, LiFePO batteries have been behaving fine. All but one solar controller have been fine. Cons: This Ratings link is for the BT-1 and BT-2 modules. Unless the person writing the rating specifies which they are reviewing, it is impossible to know which is being reviewed. There is nothing in Renogy's documentation that says current firmware must be present/active in the Renogy LiFePO battery to which it is connected. Updating old LiFePo battery firmware is challenging, at best. There has been no way, until now, to know what firmware is active in the Renogy LiFePo battery. The BT-2 does not do a lot - it is the connection between the app (smartphone) and the Renogy LiFePo battery. The BT-2 module itself seems to be OK, but the (iOS) app was not so OK. * After accessing the BT-2 app, leaving the app did not tear down the Bluetooth connection. (this was resolved during my year of working through what was originally a BT-2 issue that ended up being a LiFePo battery firmware issue). * There is a "social media" part of the app that is unnecessary. But you can earn points for products. There is no way to know what safeguards are in place from a data security perspective. * Renogy customer service first contact was horrible. Winding through the maze via emails was time consuming, but somehow I ended up with the Engineering Director in China - This person was great. * When the iOS app is connecting to a battery, if "1 batteries" is selected, the app won't recognize that single 12v 100 AH battery. If "multiple batteries" is selected, the iOS app will connect to the single 12v LiFePo battery. (I specify iOS app because I don't know if the Android app behaves similarly.) Ultimately, I ended up sending all of the (in-service) batteries back to Renogy (US) for firmware updates. After a few months, all battery firmware updates finally got done. One of the reasons it took so long was these batteries were all in service supporting the solar generator in which they were installed. I had to replace the Renogy LiFePo batteries with 100 AH lead acid batteries to remain in service to get the updates done. Swap one or two batteries, send them to Renogy to get updated, wait, get the updated battery back, swap with lead acid battery, move on to the next solar generator. The iOS app + BT-2 + current LiFePo battery firmware are behaving relatively well. Getting here was time consuming and frustrating. If you purchased your Renogy LiFePO batteries 2+ years ago and are having problems getting the BT-2 to work, my guess is it is not the BT-2, but the battery firmware version. Good luck getting the battery firmware updated. To top it off, the chronology I had posted with the excruciating detail of the challenges getting through this ordeal was deleted. I did not received any notice from Amazon or Renogy as to when or why. I still like Renogy products, but won't be buying from them anytime soon... Without good customer service first contact, I no longer recommend buying from Renogy.

Helpful Add-on
Great addition to my Renogy 1000W Inverter (version w/ eco mode). Very helpful to be able to see usage stats like active power draw in real time. Allows you to better understand the power that each of your electronic devices require to avoid overloads. Great that it's on your phone, compared to other inverters that have displays on the device, which do no good when the inverter is placed in an area out of site. Plug and play, very easy to setup. My only complaint is it does not seem the app auto reconnects to your saved devices - you have to do a refresh, which takes 10-20 seconds each time you go back into it. But like it so much, will consider getting the hub and readers so I can monitor the battery level and solar charger from the same app.

No instructions
Poor instructions, the app is terrible and crashes immediately on newer phone, but not on an older one. Forgets the bluetooth connection every single time.

Works great
Just make sure to use the BT app and not the Home app. The Home app is pretty useless if you just have a solar controller and no other devices. The BT app is pretty good.

Poor software
It seems like such a good idea to be able to monitor the solar controller remotely. The device was easy to install/connect to the solar controller. Installing the software on the phone was also easy. But the directions to get started don't say much as to how to connect the software to the device. Had to figure that out by going through the menus and try things. Every time you open the app on the phone you have to add the device to the software, it should be able to remember what you have!! Once you connect to the controller the software displays many items that are not for what you have. The display of Battery voltage is very erratic, it can change by several tenths of a volt with no activity. The display for battery capacity is totally useless, it can change from 70% to 100% in minutes with no load. The summary of recorded data does give some useful information, but again it shows so many items that are not available with the connected device. I do use it every day as it's easier then getting to the solar controller which doesn't summarize the data. Maybe someday they will upgrade the software to be more accurate and only show useful information and remember what device(s) you have attached.

Provides valuable data
I love being able to get real time data about the power generated and consumed by my Renogy system. It gets a little wonky and won’t always refresh until you back out of the app and come back into it but that’s more of a limitation app and not the BT module. Glad I purchased it.

Couldn't get it to work
Wanted to use with my new LIFEP04 Renogy smart battery/trolling motor setup. Power light comes on when plugged into battery and link light flashes but app crashes every time before connecting to battery. Using Android 7 phone (yes, blue tooth is enabled). Tried with DC Home App then Renogy Home app. Unable to connect via BT2 with either one. Researched online forums with no luck, but lots of others have same or similar problems. Submitted ticket to Renogy support but like others, didn't receive a response. I suspect this is a software issue given other negative reviews of these apps but the BT2 is useless with no working app. Returned to Amazon. Update. After 8 days I got a pro forma response from Renogy asking for a video clip of my problem! How do you video an app crashing? I put lots of specifics in my submission and its clear it wasn't even read. I love their LIFEP04 battery but their tech support is very weak.

Worked perfectly
Monitoring Renogy lithium battery instead install a shunt. Just plug and play. You can check battery percentage, amp usage and temperature too.

Will not stay connected to the phone
Will not stay connected to your phone so it will not track charging history, essentially making this unit useless
