OMG.
I bought reclaimed oak flooring... It's been a job. I was using a battery powered hand sander and it was taking FOREVER. So I read reviews about other products and decided I needed POWER. The reviews were very promising but you really can't trust reviews these days (idk how some items have such good reviews... anyways it's deceiving) This badboy here definitely held up to the reviews. Yeah it's weird when you initially start using it, cause you're not use to something so powerful. This has reduced the time I've spent sanding by 3x or 4x. Love it. If you don't like sanding and want to spend less time doing it, you have found the way.

Good addition to my shop tools
Strong sander, which speeds up early sanding before I use orbital sander. Easy to use as long as you use both hands. Not so easy if you use only one hand while holding wood piece with other hand. Using only the trigger handle is difficult to control, because if the sanding pad isn’t held perfectly flat, sander will grab & run across wood. But then, instructions say to always use both hands, so follow instructions. This sander generates a lot of sawdust, so definitely need attached vacuum if using inside. Good tool in my shop.

Love this sander!!!
So easy to use and attaching my shop vac makes it worthwhile. Live the variable speed on the trigger. Worth the extra money.

Okay Product
Need special attachment if you want to hook it up to shopvac.

You can ruin a party quickly with it's aggressiveness
I love this sander as it makes light work of a daunting task. It is very aggressive and gets the job done but it takes some practice to get the most out of it. I use it for grits 40-100 and it serves it's purpose well.

Best 5" sander I have used.
I am on my 2nd one of these. The first one lasted through 2 boat haul-outs and believe me they get a workout, first on a 28ft then on a 44ft boat. The gears wore out, that was the weak point. But I have not found another similar sander that will do the job I need with a requirement for a good vacuum collection hood on it. Working with boat coatings a vacuum sander is required as boat anti-fouling coating has some environmental hazards when airborne. Mostly high copper content. I would buy another if/when #2 dies or I kill it.

Game changer!
Wish I would have pulled the trigger on this purchase years ago. I finally got fed up with belt sanders. Tired of having to watch if the belt is drifting. Tired of replacing perfectly good belts, other than the glue strip/tape came loose. Tired in general, because a belt sander is tiring. I knew that I would be removing a lot of surface wood, and was trying to think outside the box (grinders/mods, polishers, multitools...). After looking at the options, just couldn't pass up this versatile inexpensive tool from a reliable manufacturer. A cordless version wasn't available when I made my purchase, which is good. Something like this when sanding with coarse grit will use a bit of power. With 40 grit, it is way easier to control than a belt sander. Haven't used fine grit yet, but with the adjustable speed dial (If you're wondering, the speed dial is round and built into the trigger - very convenient), the speed can go much lower and much faster than I'll ever need. If you need to go slower than this, then you might as well use a hand pad. If you need to go faster, then you might want to use a grinder. This tool fell into a sweet spot between price and functionality. Hindsight being 20-20, I feel very satisfied with this purchase. Also, looks like it would be easy to convert to 7" discs, if the need arises. The 5" discs cost about $1/each, which is much less expensive than crappy belts. The range of capability appears huge within this $80 tool. No more belt sanding for me, plus I'll be able to do a lot of fine work with it too. Prior to this purchase, I dreaded sanding. Now, I'm almost looking forward it. Even better, I'm not avoiding sanding. If you're reading this review - go buy it - you'll like it. I'm not affiliated with Dewalt. I've just been so impressed with some the Dewalt tool time saving ergonomics, that I use Dewalt as my standard. For cordless, I pretty much only use Dewalt (So that I don't have to buy more batteries). My first Dewalt tool was a marked down returned portable table saw, quite a few years ago; best tool purchase ever, by far. This Dewalt sander has potential to become my second favorite tool purchase, and for a lot less money.

Looking For A Heavy-Duty Sander That Can Do It All? Look No Further.
I have never actually used this as a sander, so I cannot comment on its effectiveness in that role. However, I can give it top marks when it comes to polishing concrete, granite and quartz. I realize that traditionally, much more powerful equipment is used for these tasks, with an angle grinder usually being the absolute minimum. I polished the entire concrete floor in my condo using nothing but this Dewalt sander. For anyone unfamiliar with the process, it helps to have some weight behind the polisher being used, so it had to be able to handle the force of the friction with the floor, as well as the weight my upper body exerted upon the tool. (approximately 160lbs) After burning out two more powerful polishers, I decided to give this one a go, because the high noise levels of most other polishers and angle grinders. Both quiet and powerful, this extremely resilient sander easily withstood the punishment of this task, and did so for the 100+ hours it took to complete. Like other reviewers have said, this thing is a beast. Trust me... Buy this. You will not be disappointed. You will be shocked in the very best way.

An excellent investment.
This machine is much, much better than a random orbital sander at removing old paint and varnish. It is almost as good as a belt sander. I was able to use it instead of a (Makita) belt sander for most of the work I was doing. It can be attached to a De Walt ShopVac-like dust extractor so it generated very little dust. It is powerful. You need to hold it with two hands otherwise it will start precessing (wobbling). I believe it is basically a good drill with a good sandpaper disc platen added so you can keep the sandpaper flush with the object being sanded. If you lean on it, it will remove more material but it can overheat. You really do need to hold it firmly with two hands.

Great sander to remove paint fast.
I started scrapping/sanding my garage which is just painted plywood, the previous owner hadn't painted it in years. I was using a 1/4 sheet and random orbital (both dewalt), just didn't cut it. I found this, bought a pack of 70 cheap 60grit with it, no time done. Some of the reviews note how it leaves circles, well if you don't know what your doing and don't know how to grab on to it, it might, I didn't have any trouble, the tool itself far exceed my needs, but it did rip through the original hook and loop pad, i was sanding in corners and stuff so prob my fault, got an oem one on order. Buy it if you're a painter, it would be great for roughing out things like stool tops with 40 or 60 grit, like using an angle grinder in all different positions on a ladder but way less dangerous. If this one wore out on my next job, i'd just buy another, was $100, worth the time it saved me and then some. You can set the variable speed, i just left it wide open.

Very good but could be faster
Well it was either this or the Makita GV500 which sells for $119.00 cad. The people polishing aluminum metals are usually using the Makita and it does a superb job spinning at 5000 rpm vs the Dewalt at I believe 3450 rpm..Under 4000 rpm that's for sure.... I need it for a one time job to car's polish a super charger.. the only reason why I chose the Dewalt.. is that it comes with a hook and loop backing plat. The Makita comes worth some archaic screw in the center system plate..and apparently very hard to find papers for it.. and I need to go from 80 grit. to 3000 grit. They do have a hook and loop plate you can buy for $25.00 bucks I believe. So Now you're $145.00 before taxes. I opted to save and went for the Dewalt, did my first pass on the unit.. at 80 grit.. man. it works fast - took the pits off the aluminum supercharger's body so quick..can"t wait to work my way to 3000 grit before the rouge polishing step.... However, I do feel the slightest over pressure and it will bog down.. That said.. its is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY light.. I mean it's so light it doesn't feel like a corded power tool. I'm not sure if the Makita GV 500 is that much more powerful and bogging down wouldn't happen if you pressed.. but I think the Dewalt will do an amazing job and you save some money at the end., That said.. IF the Makita came with a hook and loop backing plate, I would've chosen that for the extra $10.00 and 1000 plus more RPMs, only because I've seen it in professional-action on a similar job I'm doing.
