It is a system

Rust on rug showed gaskets had failed. Ferrous nuts on brass bolts were unmovable. I used the Dremel with right-angle attachment to cut an X in the bolt heads. This also scored the porcelain, but each quadrant of the brass head lifted off. The toilet tank could them be lifted off. The nuts on the bolts still had to be dealt with. Because the porcelain was damaged, I knew I needed WaterWeld epoxy as it did not shrink. I laid that down first flattening with a small putty knife against the porcelain then using a dowel, I punched through the bolt holes and smoothing the hole. I let it set. Because of the height added by the beveled coupling gasket, the shorter Kohler tank bolts would not go through the length of the tank and bowl. I bought a 40041 toilet tank bolt set which I much longer. I use these to draw down the tank onto the bowl then switch out to the Kohler tank bolts. Cleaning the porcelain, I am ready to reassemble. Thinner gaskets go between the tank and bowl. With the Kohler tank bolts loose in the tank and everything lined up I ready the plumbing adhesive. Plumbing adhesive goes on the cured WaterWeld then draw down the bolts to proper tension, don’t crank until you can’t crank, you are compressing rubber so firmly tight. Spread plumbing adhesive over the gasket, avoid the screwdriver slot in the bolt head. Let the plumbing adhesive cure per the instructions, 24-hours. The tank should be waterproof now.

Bolts are 2", not 3"

The kit appears to be fine otherwise, but twice in the description it says "5/16" x 3", obviously referring to the bolts. However, the bolts are actually 2" long which made the kit useless for my application.

Needed / Used a few of the Parts for a Toilet Rebuild

I was rebuilding a Kohler toilet for the second time and this time decided to use all Kohler parts for the rebuild since I was not happy with the toilet after rebuilding it with generic universal parts. When I was ordering parts I could not tell if this kit was needed but decided to order it because it would be a hassle to wait for the parts if they were needed. (Some reviews said it was needed some said it wasn't) I ended up needing to use some of the screws, which based on the price of the set was a bit expensive. However, the parts fit perfectly and there were no leaks after the install. I am not sure why the other Kohler kit doesn't include these screws? Maybe they intend for the existing screws to be reused but after removing the tank and replacing the rubber seals it would seem odd to put the old screws back in.

Works well as expected

Disassemble was difficult since it's very old and rustic. But once dissemble and cleaning done for old one, assembly was easy and straight forward. Works find w/o leaking after 3 days. Thanks.
