Smart Design, Extra safety, we Love this Mandonlin

This mandolin was more expensive than other brands, but a lot of thought went into expanded features. The base is very strong and stiff, and reducing flex and collapse will reduce the risk of injury. The extra blade protector is great, and the changeable blade is even better, as a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one. The food holder slides along the rails which makes it both fast and more consistent. The food holder also has 2 lengths of spike holders which both ensure the food doesn't slip, but also you can slice down to a much smaller piece than cheaper products, again lowering the risk of injury. Its also very easy to clean, as most of it is dishwasher safe (top rack). The only downside is that is larger so it takes more storage space, but it's worth it, a total win our book. If you cook a lot this is a great tool for your kitchen.

What's Most Important to Know? It's KitchenAid and I Love It!

KitchenAid products are the best and the mandoline slicer is no exception. If you've never used a mandoline slicer, just be sure you understand and believe that the blade is VERY sharp and doesn't discriminate between vegetables, fruits, and fingers!

May not be as Sharp as you Want for Meat

So far it has worked great for fruit and veggies. However, when I tried to slice some salami (could just be the brand) it didn’t slice - it just gummed up in the Mandoline. I haven’t tried it on any other meat so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I was very very disappointed it wouldn’t slice one of those large salami sticks. Easy to use and clean, very sturdy and unless you need instructions on how to ties your shoes you shouldn’t have any problems taking it apart and putting it back together. The food pusher is sturdy, but hits the sides so you can’t go down very far. Be smart and invest in a good safety glove. I got one from Mafores here, and it has worked like a champ. Be aware these are made to be very very sharp. Like surgeon scalpel sharp. Don’t be dumb and merrily sliced to the bottom of your item without slowing down. It’s not rocket science.

No more scraped knuckles!

This unit truly has saved my skin! it has also made it possible to make scalloped potatoes one-handed. I love the way it grips the food and slices cleanly. It has a little wire device beneath the unit to store the food-gripper, but the spring was sprung, so it never worked properly. This is not a problem as I just store it with the gripper on top instead of hidden underneath. Bottom line? I love it and would recommend it.

HUGE mandoline

I was, at first, a little disappointed when I opened the box and saw that it was so large, however it slices everything wonderfully so my disappointment quickly vanished. I sliced potatoes thin enough for potato chips and each one was perfect. Next I sliced some carrots, and they came out perfect little discs. The julienne disk was trickier to put on because you have to leave the setting at 3/16th, otherwise it won’t snap into place, and of course I didn't think I needed to read that part of the directions so I had to stop and figure that out. Julienned carrots that are 3/16th are kind of thick so I didn’t really care for the size of those. It's actually fun to use this thing because it glides so well, even small potatoes came out perfect. Once, I used two small potatoes at the same time and still, perfect. I have no idea where I’m going to store this huge thing but I’m keeping it. I have included a picture of the potato and carrot slices and one lonely julienned carrot piece, off to the side, so you can see how thick it is. Update: I also slice meat on this and it works great. I bought summer sausage for christmas and we sliced it to put on our crackers.

This is the one

I've gone through probably four to get to this one. I used it yesterday for the first time to make thin potato slices. The unit self stores nicely. It is heavier and bulkier than my previous mandonines. However it is easy to use. The dial for thickness is easy to operate and allows exact slices. The blade is SO SHARP the potato sliced easily and quickly. The 'hat' pusher is so much better on this unit. It allows you to slice right down to the end without the spikes hitting your blade, ruining it. Wish I had gotten this one first. Would have saved me a lot of money and frustration. Oh, and the V blade is the best. I've had both the straight and the V......V is best and this one is so sharp, there is absolutely no resistance. Glides easily.

Great quality but too big for a small kitchen

I didn't realize how big this mandolin would be when I ordered it. It is huge. I don't have room to store it in my small kitchen, so I'm returning it. However, for those who have lots of space, I'd say that it looks like it is very sturdy and good quality.

Perfect Prep Tool for Healthy Fruit and Vegetable Snacks

I enjoy creating healthy snacks with myExcalibur 3900B 9 Tray Deluxe Dehydrator, Black and recently discovered many uses for delicious crunch dried onion rings. So one evening, tears streaming down my face and a pile of prepped onions beside me, I thought: "there has to be a better way". I had used a very inexpensive mandoline slicer before, but it was not consistent enough for my liking. So I pulled the trigger on this KitchenAid Mandoline. I love it. I have processed pears, beets, and of course onions with it. The blade is super sharp and slices easily. The pusher also helps make sure there is as little waste as possible. I love that the settings on the dial are in fractions of an inch so I know exactly what thickness I am prepping (it is a pet peeve of mine when kitchen appliances simply have a scale 1-10 that is not keyed to a measurement). I can make 1/8" pear chips, 3/16" onion chips, and know that they're all being sliced the same, which makes the drying/dehydrating process much more successful. Clean up is super easy as well since everything except the julienne attachment is dishwasher safe.

My wife loves it. It looks like it is made to last and the blades are super sharp as you would expect from a Kitchenaid product.

Do NOT cut hard vegetables with it or it WILL break

We tried to cut a Celeriac in julienne with it, first time use and the plastic guard past the blade lifted and the celeriac when underneath it. Now it's broken for good it won't cut anything else. For the price point, I have seen and tried better ones at 30$. Don't get fooled by the brand, I have called KitchenAid and they told me they don't sell that and they called it a gadget sold by another company called Lifetime Brands and they put their logo on it. I will not get any support from KitchenAid so I basically wasted 115$ on that slicer that will not last a celeriac....So much for KitchenAid.

Got blunt almost straight away.

Was unusableafter a short time and minimal use. Cheap plastic ones last much longer. Embarrassingly useless, I hate it. Have had great experience with other Kitchenaid product, not with this one.
