Buy a Proven Name!
I purchased this slicer mainly on the Nesco name. My family has Nesco roasters that have been passed down for generations. Needless to say, I went into this with great expectations. I was absolutely correct. It sliced my roast beef, thin, without issue. I worried there would be “saw” marks in the meat (like a spiral sliced ham), but the cuts were smooth. Cleanup was not difficult. Just common sense when cleaning anything with a lot of nooks and crannies. The price was good in comparison to others from companies with whose names I was unfamiliar. Having worked with Hobart slicers in previous jobs I liked the look of this miniature version. Time will tell about durability, but I take good care of my small appliances and they usually live a long, happy life with me. My rule of thumb is always to try to purchase a name I know and trust. I was totally correct in this instance.

Waste of money in my opinion as doesn't slice thinly for normal deli meat sizes.
Purchased to slice meat like a deli for ham, turkey and prime rib sliced sizes. To awkward to even try on this unit. As to be honest I can slice meat better than this unit with a good knife and faster with way less cleanup. So my fault as I will have to step up and pay 3-5 times or more for a commercial one.

Good for the price
The slicer works fine. My only issue is the meat/product carrier is somewhat flimsy. However for my purposes the blade cuts through easily and clean up is no issue.

Decent Machine - some analysis
Just received this machine new in the box. I will share some preliminary thoughts. Note observations apply to my machine, yours may be different. Good Features. 1. It's got 4 suction feet made of black rubber. Won't slide around when pushing the carriage with some force. 2. The sliding carriage is 90% metal. This means I can sanitize most of the moving carriage assembly in hot boiling water. The black tube underneath the carriage is plastic. As long as it'll hold up to high temperature, it's fine. 3. The blade looks like it's straight and not crooked, when compared to a steel ruler (or any straight edge). 4. The thickness adjustment dial, next to the power switch, has white visible numerical markings on it. Going from "P to 15". Out of curiosity, I took a dial caliper and measured it. The numbers represent "mm" in cutting thickness. Basically every digit means approximately 0.04 inch. From "2" to "3", the difference is 0.04 inch. To get 1/4 inch thickness, I turn the dial to 6.5. To get 1/8 inch thickness, I turn the dial to 3. 5. Searching on the internet, the machine is listed with Intertek/ETL. Company name is METAL WARE CORP., THE - Two Rivers, WI USA. It says the machine conforms with UL-982 standard, and some other Canadian standards. 6. The power cord is 105 C rated, 18 gauge cord. Two prong. 7. No nasty plastic smell from the machine or packaging material. Disadvantage. 1. No smooth replacement blade available. Only serrated blade is offered. 2. The three screws securing the blade to the plastic carrier may get filled with material. Cleaning is possible with a tooth pick. 3. The moving carriage doesn't have a strap or lock screw to prevent it from sliding during transportation. This can be solved with appropriate binder clips. The spike handle for pushing the meat in doesn't have a lock down either. I suppose a rubber band can solve the problem. In conclusion, a decent machine considering the price.

Decent enough slicer
So I ordered this slicer because my husband and son take their lunch to work everyday and I go through a lot of expensive deli meat. First thing I notice is there is a lot more plastic parts than I thought. See photos of me pointing. Although the rod is not plastic when you clean it the rod comes all the way out. I would think stoppers on one end of some kind would be good. So I sliced the ham first, that went pretty well. Next was a roast for the roast beef…not so well this time. First off the motor seems to struggle a little with the extra pressure needed to slice. Also the back plate pushes in when you move the slicer arm changing the thickness that you have set so you have to adjust for that. Next to slice was the bacon. It was hard to get the right thickness but I think with a little practice I will get the hang of it. It is very easy to take apart and clean. I think for the price and a little practice it will do what I need. I plan on trying cheese also.

Nice Machine Very Dull Blade, But Can Be Sharpened
The only experience I have had with a meat slicer is my old Rival with a 6 inch serrated blade. I had this machine for 30 years before giving it to one of my kids. One of the reasons for switching is I want to move up to a larger blade. I like it for slicing beef round roasts and pork loins plus I smoke my own bacon, I then package the meat portions in a vacuum machine for hot pork sandwiches or whatever. The machine seems to be decently made and as other have said very easy to clean, in fact that was the feature that attracted me and it is really so, especially compared to my old unit that needed to be dismantled using a screw driver to clean it, this is as stated by others very easy to clean. I gave it three stars because it has a downside, to me in concern with my machine I got is a bad one. The first test was slicing cooked and fridge cooled pork loins at a thickness of 1/8 inch. The machine bogged down sufficiently enough that my wife looked up and asked if I was jamming it. I said no, I am not even putting any pressure on the blade at all. My first thought was if this is 250 watts they must be a lot smaller in China than here. After I cut all my meat at a much slower pace than my old smaller machine I got looking at it when I was cleaning it. The problem was easy to see, the blade is dull. My old machine had a six inch Solingen blade, it was still razor sharp after 30 years, the blade on this Nesco machine is dull, or at least mine is dull. I literally took the blade off the machine dragged it across the palm of my hand and nothing, it is that dull. That explains the motor laboring to cut. I guess the easiest example is a perry knife one side is sharp and the back side isn't, my machines blade is the back side of the perry knife. So my options are to send it back and hope a replacement is better, try to find out if a 8.7 Solingen blade or other brand blade would interchange, dont know if they are all interchangeable between machine manufacturers or finally take my box of sharpening hones and see if I can sharpen the existing blade, So my machine is good, the blade is not, even the blade has a wobble of just under a 1/16 inch, if I can't sharpen/replace the blade I don't see a long motor life. Others have stated they can cut frozen meat, that sort of makes me think I got a bum blade?? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I usually don't do a follow-up, in fact I think this is my first one. I have since sharpened the blade by using several grit stones on the blade edge while running the machine. This has worked out quite well and has allowed me to put a much finer edge on the blade itself. I have also used it since to slice and shave ham, roast beef and pork since sharpening the blade. The machine works a whole lot better and I feel it is now much better value. Mine might have been a stand alone case, but as far as the performance goes I am quite pleased for the money and as such have raised my rating to 4 stars instead of 3.

Good slicer. But don’t break the blade nut.
First off, I sent mine back. However, it worked well while it did. The motor seemed strong and the blade was sharp. It also was quite quiet. The reason I sent it back: the blade removal nut. The instructions say undo the blade removal nut. So I tried and couldn’t get it undone. I ended up using pliers and broke it. Only then did I realize this is a quick connect. Not a unscrew nut. Turn it back 90 degrees and it’s undone. Instructions are poor.

Not impressed, junk.
Bought this as it had the highest reviews for a low cost slicer. I started by slicing 2 loaves of bread (which it mutilated). By the end of the 2nd load there was smoke pouring out of the bottom vent. I let it cool down then tried a ham. The smallest I could go was 2 MM before it would slice anything off. At this width I needed to push so hard on the end of it, definitely would have been less effort to just cut the slices with a knife. A table saw would work better than this thing. The back plate the meat slides on towards the blade is plastic and bends easily giving an uneven thick half slice. This thing as far as I am concerned is useless trash. I don’t like giving bad reviews but this one really made me shake my head. Returned!

Perfect Cuts, Easy to Use, Snap to Clean
Very good product and totally as advertised. It is a solid machine that is very easy to use and a snap to clean, as it all comes apart with very simple steps. So glad we got the meat slicer with the 8.7 very sharp blade as it accommodated the size of meat we were cutting so much better than if we'd purchased a 7" blade. The dial to set the thickness works smoothly and we were able to cut the meat into nice, consistent pieces at 5/8"...perhaps too thin for some folks, but, perfect for our needs. We put the meat into the freezer for 4 hours before cutting as that made it much easier to cut. Further, this meat slicer comes with an aluminum die cast food press, which allowed for confidence while pressing the meat toward the blade and has to be sturdier than others with a plastic, breakable press. We used the slicer to cut a large salami and some ham into deli thin slices...cut perfectly. We are very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend it. As a 70 year old woman, I had no problems at all and did all the cutting while my husband of 73 plated my beautiful slices...easy easy easy. Also...it arrived at our door within 3 days...wow!

Good Value
Pros: cuts meat thin for beef jerky and deli cuts, motor doesn’t slow down. Good value for the $100-$200 price range. Cons: motor spins slower than commercial units but still powerful for the job.
