Quick install...once you get all the other parts you need
A tried and true travel trailer owner is always a tad excited to get a new piece of functional "bling" for their "home away from home". The Husky 82084 Super Brute Electric Jack is just that and a nice addition to our Riverside Retro RV. The silver power unit compliments the diamond plate face on our trailer and looks substantially better than the cheesy manual crank jack that it replaces. After all, what good is "functional" if it doesn’t also look cool! Getting this on a Friday night, I decided to wait for Saturday morning to tackle the installation. With a cup of steaming hot joe in hand, I first cracked open the box and gazed at wonder at new unit and then it dawned on me I was far from ready to tackle the task. You see, Husky just sends you the jack and a circuit breaker and that's it. No wire connectors, nothing. You got to figure that all out by yourself there buddy boy! Besides the jack unit itself, the Husky package includes a small bubble level (that interestingly comes with absolutely nothing to mount it with, nor any mention of where to mount it...again, figure that out yourself) and there is also a bonus plastic 7 pin plug holder device / thingy (which I happened to break one of the straps on right off the bat...I don't know my own strength apparently). So, with a fresh coffee cup in hand, and a word to the spouse that "I would be right back", it was first off to the hardware store to get a few waterproof heat-shrink butt-splices and a ring terminal connector and a package of 12" zip ties, which you will want to ensure you get all your dangly wires put away neat and tidy (unless you happen to be the type that likes your wiring to look like a rats nest waiting to blow apart). While I was at the hardware store, I also decided to pick up some good quality stainless steel bolts to replace the partly rusted galvanized ones that were holding on the old jack. Of course, I also got some black paint to touch up while I was at it, because again, you can't be putting a blingy new power jack on a hitch that happens to look like an advertisement for a "before" picture on a Rustoleum ad. I went ahead and picked up a piece of 3M Automotive trim tape to mount that neat little bubble level Husky sent along (seriously guys, you can't afford to dole out the few pennies for a 1" disk of mounting adhesive?) Fortunately, my son had two jack stands handy which I absconded with and put them under the hitch frame. In a couple of minutes, the old jack was pulled out and added to the ever-growing pile of "stuff" being stashed for absolutely no good reason in my garage. I did a little clean-up of the surface underneath the old jack mount and then bolted the Husky right in. Wiring the unit to the battery case was straight-forward, all though I did have to contemplate where the circuit breaker should be mounted. I decided to drill a hole in the lid of my battery box and mount the waterproof switch there as this ensured all my wire crimps were housed in the battery box and less prone to taking a bath. Once all the connections were made, it was testing time. After the jack stands were pulled, I had to stand there for at least 30 minutes raising and lowering the jack, if only to satisfy that innate need to play with your new toy. It worked well. I have yet to go out and try the lights on the unit at night as in the daylight, they didn't seem to matter much. Go figure. The Husky 82084 Super Brute Electric Jack seems like a good unit but only time will tell after it has been road tested for a bit.

Easy installation, doesn't come with connectors for the wiring...
Everything was simple to install and directions were very easy to follow... I was done in 15 mins and then proceeded to double and triple check everything for another 30 mins..... Real completion time was 45 because it went that smoothly I couldn't believe I didn't bust a knuckle or even remotely get shocked (paranoid simple completion)... Definitely recommend as i have taken the camper out 4 times since then without a problem, even had the camper roll back a bit dragging this power jack (8k lbs for about 2 ft) and still works like a champ (give me a break it was an long haul and i chocked the wrong side of the wheels like a rookie).

Poor Grounding Design and Install Directions
I'm writing this review specifically focused on the product design and installation. I have not used the jack enough yet to comment on long term function or reliability. The first jack I received was from a third-party seller, it arrived on-time with no problems. The jack is shipped securely sandwiched between two thick pieces of Styrofoam. It appeared to be in perfect condition. Directions seemed straightforward, however, in hindsight I now know they are severely lacking in some important notes. I would recommend everyone test it out quick before going through the entire installation process only to find it doesn't work and you have to "uninstall"! Test it out by connecting the black lead wire coming out of the jack head to the positive side of your 12 V trailer battery, and connect a quick ground by using a car jumper cable from the negative battery post to the metal foot of the jack. If the jack operates, then proceed with the actual installation. In my case I went through the entire installation only to find the jack did not work, LED lights or jack screw. I called the Husky technical support phone number and am happy to report a VERY positive experience. They were easy to talk to, quick, and knowledgeable. They first emailed me a couple of troubleshooting tests to try. This did not solve my problem, so they simply asked for my serial number and proof of purchase and they quickly shipped me a new one from the factory no more questions asked. Unfortunately, when the new one arrived and I went through additional headache. Overall the installation is simple; however, the directions do not discuss a very common issue these jacks have. If the product does not work you need to ensure you actually have a good ground connection. These are supposed to be grounded by the star washers above the upper support plate which are intended to pierce through the powder-coat surface and make contact with the metal below. Unfortunately due to the thick powder-coating it is very common for the washers to not make sufficient (or any) contact with the underlying metal, thus no ground is established. A second call to the technical support number was similar to the first experience. They were quick to answer and very helpful. The tech support person said the common solution is to scrape or sand or otherwise remove the paint coating around the three bolt holes. This was frustrating on many levels, mainly the idea that I have to intentionally damage the paint coating on my brand new jack to make it work. This leaves it not looking great, and also provides potential for rust. It was also frustrating in the amount of effort it took on my part to actually make the jack work. This should be noted in big bold writing within the instruction manual, as it is known by the company to be a very common issue. In the end, the jack is installed and seems to work fine. However, if I had known all this ahead of time it would have saved multiple hours of frustration. One last important installation note, some people may overlook. Make sure the negative wire coming from your trailer is connected to the negative side of the battery when you try operating the jack. The jack is grounded to the trailer frame, but you need to have the trailer ground connected. For all these reasons I’m starting out with 3 stars, and would only be willing to update it later on if I find the product to work flawlessly from here on out.

So far, so good
My installation was straightforward, remove old jack, disconnect it electrically, install new jack, connect wires, and test. The jack I received included the star washers, circuit breaker, new mounting bolts (unlike many I have seen here). I had to purchase heat shrink butt connectors and 3/8” stainless steel washers. I raised the tongue and set both arms of the A-frame on Jack stands. I then retracted the old jack and took the foot off. The most difficult part of my installation was removing the old bolts that corroded some over the 18 months of trailer ownership. However, once off, a snip of the power lead (after turning off 12v to the camper) and the the old jack was removed. Installation of the new jack was easy; line up the holes, put the washers on the bolt (flat on top, star contacting the jack), tighten the bolts (torquing to 15-20 ft/lbs), and connect the power. Mine worked first time I tried. I will be using high gloss black Rustoleum on the mounting bracket to protect against rusting. This is an easy replacement that anyone who can use a socket wrench and crimping tools to accomplish.

Work great , beats cranking up and down a trailer two to three times a day.
Great working jack , it’s exactly what every trailer should come with.
