Might be OK for Occasional Light-Duty Use

I have this clothesline reel installed in my laundry room extending a 6ft distance. The housing and mount are solid, the line and reel are questionable, and the anchors are garbage (I used heavy-duty screw-in anchors I had on hand). The reel is stubborn when extending and slow to retract. The line is light-duty general purpose string. This clothesline reel is sleek and pretty discrete. Upon testing it, it supports 7 articles of clothing without excessive sag. It works for occasional light duty use; but between the stubborn reel and light-duty string line, I don’t have much confidence for long term use.

Lockable

We picked up a cheap version of this product at The Container Store, but that one did not have a mechanism for locking the line. With the unlockable one there was no way to hang much on the line because each item would cause the line to sag as soon as you hung one item on it. THIS one is the one that you want. Once you pull out the line and attach it to the other side of the wall, you can tighten down the screw in the center and the line will will remain locked until you unlock it. You can hang as many items as you want without it sagging to the floor.

Great for what I need

I installed this above the door, stretching across the laundry room. I mainly use it for air drying some more delicate clothes and things. It doesn't stay taut and sags a bit when full of clothes, but not so much that it interferes with me walking underneath. It was easy to install and has held up so far. I'm glad I bought it and would recommend.

Great for hanging children's artwork!

I actually purchased this to hang my children's artwork on the wall with clothes pins. I don't retract it at all, so I'm not quite sure how that mechanism holds up--but I have it locked and straight across the wall, and there is very little dip down, even across almost 8 feet. I couldn't be happier with my purchase--the perfect solution to get rid of an ugly sting and hook look in the dining room, where the kids can display their works of art, without cluttering up my fridge (which is already covered in kids magnets....)

Wow...it's all metal. No plastic

This replaces a plastic one I had for years until the line snapped. If that held as long as it did I am really thinking this one should be as durable since it is all metal. The line looks like the one that was in my old one...but hoping it is more durable. Love how you can look the line in place too.

Yeay!

Ok, you are gonna laugh but this was the perfect solution to my 'bra drying' dillemma after the garment hand wash activity I do while in the shower. I wash them in the plastic tub I have purposed for this task, gently squeeze them out, and then hang them on this line installed at the back of our shower till dry... of course keeping them out of sight if we have unexpected guests. It is very good quality and holding up nicely with use every week.

Perfect for wet swimsuits!

Exactly like the ones you'd see in a hotel. We purchased this and hung it over our master bathroom bathtub to hang swimsuits and towels after we get out of the pool. Works much better than just draping them over the side or the shower door. When it's not in use it's pretty unobtrusive, so it doesn't detract from the decor in the bathroom. Might have to purchase a 2nd one for the guest bathroom as well!

Almost as good as the one it replaces

I needed to replace one in a ski condo, the parts were similar so it went on quickly and easily. I’m happy with the switch except the string return is weak and you can’t just let it pop back in by itself.
