Genie shaft-drive is amazingly quiet....but
UPDATE: So after about a half dozen calls with Genie and Amazon, here's the scoop: Amazon sent me the entire wrong bundle, not what was listed on the Genie store on Amazon. No wifi, no battery backup, zilch. So now I've had to purchase all these separately, and I gotta hand it to the Amazon support staff--they've taken good care of me and we are financially even on it all. Since I had already paid my contractor to install the whole setup it was not an option to pay him to take it all down and put up a whole new setup (a total of 3 times), so I will just add to what's there. Genie support is very good, but for general support you have to wait HOURS for a call-back, but it is worth the wait. I did get right through to the Aladdin group and they were very helpful too. So I'm waiting for parts to arrive now, all the genie stuff is honestly a breeze to work with, I expect it to be a cinch to add on to. Just looking forward to having everything in place. Upping my star rating to 5 cause the product and support for this (despite being an extra hassle) has been top notch all the way, and I would recommend anyone to buy this same bundle. Oh yah, and RE the bluetooth LED light....just needed to follow directions. Literally can't get any easier. Original post: We are doing a large reno on our shop to convert most of it to a mom-in-law apartment (ADU) leaving about a third of it for a shop--and that included me losing the battle to have a man-door from the apartment to the shop. So while I'm waiting for next spring to get a different exterior door cut in I am relying on the garage door opener solely for access to the shop. First blush--man I wish I would have done this sooner. Got the heavy duty one for large doors on this shop--quietest opener I've ever seen, pretty straightforward install, good instructions. I won't ever go back to belts, chains, worms, any of it. Shaft drive from now on. My contractor first got the sensor wires a little crossed, but once we got that sorted it works great. Very pleased with the core package. LED wall light....no go. Can't get it to connect, it's via bluetooth apparently. Going to keep working on that with Genie. [read on] Bought this package from Amazon, says it includes the battery backup.....no battery in the box I received. So, called Amazon and told me that I have to call Genie because that's their arrangement for this product. Call Genie support..."we can give you a call back in maybe 3 hours" (which will now be closing, so likely no call). Genie chat support...."want to have a senior tech contact you? that can take up to 3 days", so no help today. Only hoping that this will work out soon so I can have the door open, the light come on, and know that the battery is there to help it out when the power goes out (already has a couple times in the past month). I'll try and give an update on just what kind of service we get.

Only type of Opener you should buy!
I have been doing research for some time on the Liftmaster jacshaft openers, but was finding way too many instances of the random opening issues. This is a common issue with the liftmaster openers. I finaly came across teh Genie opnener and found no repetative failure modes, only positive resviews and this is another one. #1: You can get a unit without wifi integration, which is my preference, but they have a wifi version if you want it. #2: You can connect a standard Genie wired control panel to operate the unit, if you don't want to use the included wireless unit. Again, hardwired = less electricla glitches #3: The Genie unit has engineered the ability to verify cable tension, without the need for a seperate cable tension sensor, which is required by the liftmaster unit. One for thing to fail, plus it can be difficult to find a mounting location for it. #4: The opener seamlessly integrated with any built in garage door opner in your car, no additional adapter needed, like Liftmaster requires. Totally quiet and far easier to install than a traditional ceiling mounted opener!

Easy, small and quiet
I have a roll up door that this fits onto, and if you do too this is way better than a chain drive overhead model. It’s just a light little box in the corner and it is mostly silent. It even is short enough to fit over an entry door which is the only space it will fit. It has a quality feel to the parts, it isn’t cheaply built. Not sure why some say the install needs to be by a professional. Sure it takes some fiddling, and the programming instructions, even with the video took a few tries, but it is actually easier to put up alone than a big overhead unit. I don’t think the door is especially slow either, it’s quite an adequate speed. I like the light that can go anywhere and stays on when unloading at night, and the wireless opening button is also good for locating it. I haven’t yet needed the backup battery but power goes out regularly here so I’m glad to have it. The only thing Genie could fix is the feel of the button on the car remote. It doesn’t have a detent so it doesn’t feel like you pressed anything. It’s a “squeezing a rubber puck” feeling. I’m used to it now, and I just squeeze the puck once and trust that it works, and it has every time. I’ll buy another one of these Genies for my other door if I ever need one.

Far superior to Liftmaster 8500 jackshaft drive
I had installed the liftmaster equivalent (8500) on my 16’x12’ door knowing liftmaster didn’t recommend it because the door was too large. It was a door used for my RV, so rarely used. It would require assistance to get it started. And such a pain to program too. I installed the Genie and wow what a difference. Installation was easy with the BILT application instructions! Works the door perfectly. I relocated the Liftmaster 8500 to my 12’x10’ door (replacing the perfectly functional but obsolete 15 year old liftmaster belt drive). What an absolute pain to program. Sometimes it stalled out while trying to set limits. But I finally got it and it works properly. I’m getting another Genie jackshaft to replace my last remaining obsolete liftmaster.

Takes some time but worth it
Just got mine running today and works very well indeed. It is quieter and the phone app notifications and rules you can set are very nice. The small cable clamps for securing the sensor wires are too large to hold the wires...so they can slip and look crappy. Wrap the wire around them and pull taught to the next one or find smaller clamps. It took some time to get my outdoor Genie keypad opener to link up but finally got it working. Programming standard Genie remotes goes quickly. The ceiling light is tricky to mount, going onto blind screw heads you have to get just right...slightly below the ceiling surface but not too low. It's not very bright, but my garage has a 13' ceiling and is 1600 square feet. Overall, it's a nice unit and I expect it will work for years to come.
