Material too soft
Easy to install, but material is too soft and it bend on first time when I close the door. Buy and install with care

I bought this for an older door that leaked thru the bottom. I no longer have water inside my home.

Unreliable and Confusing
Let me tell you, folks, this M-D Building Products door bottom is a real piece of work. I've never seen anything quite like it, and that's not necessarily a good thing. As soon as I pulled it out of the box, I knew I was in for a wild ride. It was like trying to wrangle an angry octopus into submission. I've never had so much trouble trying to install something so seemingly simple. First of all, the instructions were about as clear as mud. I'm pretty sure they were written in ancient Sanskrit or some other obscure language. And even if I could decipher them, I'm not sure I could have followed them. The whole thing was just so... convoluted. It was like trying to solve a Rubik's cube blindfolded. Then, once I finally managed to get the darn thing on my door, I realized it was completely ineffective. It didn't stop any drafts or keep any bugs out. It was like putting a Band-Aid on a broken arm. And to top it all off, it looked like a hot mess. The "satin nickel" finish was more like "satin rust" and the vinyl material felt like it could crumble at any moment. In conclusion, I would give this product one out of five stars, but even that feels too generous. Save yourself the headache and invest in a different door bottom. Trust me, your sanity will thank you. Here are some dos and don'ts for installing a U-shaped door bottom: Dos: Measure the width of your door before purchasing a U-shaped door bottom to ensure it will fit properly. Clean the bottom of the door thoroughly before installing the U-shaped door bottom to ensure it adheres properly. Use a door bottom that is made of high-quality materials, such as vinyl or rubber, to ensure it lasts a long time and effectively seals out drafts and moisture. Make sure the U-shaped door bottom is installed flush against the bottom of the door to ensure a tight seal. Test the door after installation to ensure it opens and closes smoothly and that the U-shaped door bottom does not impede its movement. Don'ts: Don't use a U-shaped door bottom that is too long or too short for your door, as this will result in an improper seal. Don't install the U-shaped door bottom over any obstructions, such as screws or nails, as this will prevent it from adhering properly. Don't use a U-shaped door bottom that is made of low-quality materials, as this will result in a poor seal and a shorter lifespan. Don't install the U-shaped door bottom too high or too low on the door, as this will result in an improper seal. Don't neglect to test the door after installation, as this may result in the need for additional adjustments or repairs.

These really are the answer to a lot of door problems.
These are great if you have to cut off a door and strengthen it with some kind of stiffening device... which is what these are. They are made of aluminum channel and will support the bottom of the door and the rubber gasket will weather-seal the door bottom. Much better than a threshold with a rubber gasket. As an example, one of my rental homes has an odd-size rear door. 2'8 by only 77" tall. I buy standard metal exterior doors and cut them off to fit such odd opening sizes, and then install the door bottom to stiffen the door. Works great. Be sure to use plenty of urethane caulk or Goop adhesive to seal the bottom and keep the steel door from rusting out. These used to be available locally in the big box home centers, but no store stocks them around here anymore. I am glad I found this online source. I may order 10 more just to have them for future projects. And, I just realized I am going to have to find a source for the rubber gasket... because that gets torn up from tenants putting a heavy rug at the door and the door the gasket rubs the rug and gets torn up. Best way to use this door bottom is to also purchase an extra-high aluminum (or wood... I can custom craft the wood ones and save money)threshold and then shorten the door to accomodate the extra height. That way it won't rub the tenant's (or your) rug and get torn up. Thresholds should always allow for this, but many of the prehung doors these days don't offer a lot of clearance, especially if you decide to put ceramic tile at your foyer for example, and raise the height of the original floor. If you have never shortened a door to fit a threshold or door bottom, keep in mind that you can use a framing square to scribe the hinge side of the door jamb at a right angle to the bottom of the door, and then measure to the threshold to arrive at the exact cut line you need to assure a positive seal. The door bottom is "adjustable" in a way.. meaning you can locate it after you cut the door off, rehang it on the hinges... and then find the way it fits best against the threshold before you drill and screw the door bottom in the final position. I prefer to scribe and cut the door for an exact fit before I put the door back on the hinges.

Satin Nickel NOT
The Satin Nickel I received neither looks like their photo, nor like any other Satin Nickel on the planet. The one I received is sort of a Goldish Brown. Not worth the time to return, but if you are expecting this to match Satin Nickel door knobs or trim, not going to happen. Otherwise, fairly easy to install and I think it will do a good job of keeping the rain out of this exposed door.

Drip cap for bottom of door.
This product is great. We have an HVAC system in our house, and when it rained, because the inside air pressure was different than the outside pressure, water leaked in under the door. The drips coming off the regular door were to close to the bottom of the door, and water would leak into the house. Add one of these M D Bottom Drip Cap products, and the drip is now at least 1/2 inch further away from the bottom of the door, its enough to keep the water from coming into the house, We put these on all our outside metal doors, cured the problem.
