Definitely lives up to it's name!
So far so good! Instantly created a pile of dead bugs below it. Looks like mostly mosquitoes, unfortunately some innocent bystanders get zapped too but for the most part it's the mosquitos. I haven't been bitten so far yet this year either which is definitely a difference so far.

Heavy Duty
Very heavy duty. Not sure if it works any better than the smaller plastic ones, but it sure looks like it should! Placed inside a Lanai, so so not many big buggers get inside to kill.

Bug zapper
Bug zapper seems to be good quality. And work perfectly. I added a timer so it’s not on 24 hours so i set to my need .satisfied so far

Flowtron should include sunglasses with this product it's so bright...
My use case is getting rid of flies and mosquitos on a 1000 sq ft urban/suburban patio. This zapper worked fairly well at getting rid of most of the mosquitos and flies. I still got bit occasionally, usually during the day. I wasn't inundated with insects before I bought this, but there were enough mosquitos that it made sitting out on the patio day or night unenjoyable. I've had a few different kinds of zappers before and this one worked the best, but it's 4x the price of the others. This unit is well built and very heavy and very big compared to others. I didn't have any problems with loose or non-functioning bulbs or loose connections like other reviewers experienced. In fact, it fell over from a height of 5' onto the ground once, when I was using a leaf blower to get rid of the dead insects, with no damage at all. The Flowtron MC9000 is also very bright. While you really don't need sunglasses, it will ruin any ambience on your patio from landscape or patio lighting. You could easily read a book at night sitting 10' away from it. While the zapper is effective on unwanted flies and mosquitos, there's also a lot of collateral damage as it will attract and kill any type of bug attracted to UV light, both good and bad. I discovered just how many ladybugs I had in my garden when I set this up. Hopefully I don’t pay for this next year. It will also devour moths and larger bugs in what sounds and smells like a scene from the movie The Green Mile. I have this mounted on a Shepard’s hook with a base that I bought on amazon for $50. I move it around my patio as needed to where the bugs are. I used plastic milk crates to get it up off the ground (see photo). Not pretty but it works. This zapper is the gift that keeps on giving…or rather taking, money from your wallet. The Octonol cartridges are suppose to last a month, but mine have run out (you can smell them when the unit is on) after 2 ½ weeks. All depends on how much you have it on. I have mine on a home automation system that runs from 3 hours before sunset to 3 hours after sunrise. Dawn and dusk are great times to catch the little buggers. Octanol cartridges are $8 each if you shop around. You’ll need 6-8 for a season. I actually use two at once as it seems to increase the effectiveness. Flowtron recommends replacing the bulbs ever season because while the visible light is still there, the UV output that attracts bugs diminishes over time. I’ve only had this 30 days as of this review so can’t comment on that. The bulbs are $17 each so figure $54 a season if you use this a lot. So bottom line, budget for $100-$120 a year for ongoing consumable costs. A flyswatter is cheaper and you get more exercise! While my unit was well built, I did notice that the welds on the outside grid started to rust after 3 weeks (see photo). The grid is made of stainless steel but apparently the welds aren’t. Not sure if this is just cosmetic or if my grid will start to rust out and fall apart in a year. Bottom line, this is an ok product. Bug zappers as a whole have limitations but are better than spraying chemicals. You will kill good bugs as well as bad, and both the initial and ongoing annual operating costs are pretty high. But if you don’t have any other alternatives, this will fit the bill. …and don’t forget the sunglasses.

Powerful, but some issues
As others have mentioned, the hanging ring is junk, and the unit does not have a photoelectric eye so unless you want it running during the day as well you'll need to buy a plug-in box with one on it.

Beats the BK Series (so far)
Since 2016, I've had 5 of the BK-40D zappers(Found Here) - and they've worked extremely well; other than the fact that they're unbelievably unreliable. The worst part is that the light doesn't ever burn out - but it stops zapping mosquitoes. As a result, the only real way to know it's broken is to wait until you start getting eaten by the little buggers. When the most recent one stopped zapping, I decided to search for something better and ran across this model from the same company. It's only been a couple of months; but this MC-9000 has already outlasted the last two BK-40D units. It seems like a much higher quality product, so my hopes are high - and I'll post here if it ends up failing (other than standard maintenance, like the lights needing to be replaced). In addition to seeming like a higher quality product: - it's significantly brighter and seems to cover a larger area as a result - The way the attractant attaches to the bottom is simpler, although it could use a better explanation in the manual - It doesn't clog up as quickly Overall, even though this was more expensive than the BK-40D, it will be worth it if it lasts. I'll definitely update this review immediately if it fails for any reason. [*** Update 10/11/2018 ***] It's been a couple more months, and this zapper is still going strong. We're having a wet fall, so it's getting some good use. Anyway, I figured I'd tack one more observation that I learned recently onto this review. The attractant does wonders for pulling in additional mosquitoes at night so they can be zapped - but I noticed that it continued to pull them in during the day as well. The result was that we would start to get quite a few mosquitoes in the area of our zapper before dusk. By morning they're all dead, and the process starts over. To fix this I purchased a dusk-to-dawn timer(Found Here) so the zapper only runs at night. That prevents the attractant from warming up and attracting mosquitoes throughout the day - and our yard is almost completely free of the little buggers now.

Mindblowing
After several attempts at a decent bug zapper, this one was totally worth the money. You can hear the bugs being zapped from inside the bouse with the doors closed and the carnage left behind overnight is a sight to see. Doesn’t stop working after 10 minutes like previous bug zappers. This one is a keeper.
