It does its job
I've seen a review or 2 that says that this pole will not work with the Flowtron BK-80D. That's wrong. When you hang that model zapper on this pole, there's 5 inches of clearance from the widest point of the zapper (the top). The pole comes in sections, and if you're going to install all sections of it, be sure to spike the bottom post into the ground the two feet it says to, otherwise it will sway in the breeze. But at the called-for 2 feet, it'll stay sturdy and true. The title of "security" is a bit of a lie, however. Its "security" is a nut on a j-hook, that's all. Even if it rusted over time and became difficult to remove the nut, with the pole being sectionalized, it's still a snap to just yank at the top of the pole and remove a section of the pole along with the zapper. If you're REALLY concerned about "security" I'd recommend putting some sort of sealant between the sections so that it can't be removed so easily. But we ARE talking about a pole for a bug zapper here, so is there REALLY a need for such security? I would hope not. In the end, this is the best accessory I've come up with for hanging my BK-80D zapper the required minimum 25' distance it calls for, and would recommend it to anyone buying a zapper as well.

Worth it? I guess.
I wanted to get this pole, because I didn't want to jack around with another pole that wasn't designed for the Flowtron zapper. So I picked this up. It works fine for it's purpose. It's actually pretty tall, which is good and breaks down into 3 sections. So when I'm not using my zapper I can take the zapper and the top 2 sections off and just leave the bottom section in the ground (could be a safety risk so use caution). I used a piece of wood on top of the bottom section and a rubber mallet to hammer the bottom section into the ground about half of it's length. This made the base very sturdy. I noticed that it's beginning to rust a bit already, so I suppose this is one of those things that will need an occasional wire brushing and a coat of black Rustoleum about once a year. I have lost my hardware for it somehow, but zip ties work in a pinch. I may contact Flowtron to see if I can get more hardware, or maybe one day when I'm cleaning the basement I will find it. I can't help but wonder if one of the cheapo poles I see at the hardware store would have worked just as good? Maybe, maybe not. At least this way I supported an American company.

Flowtron Security Lantern Pole - Is it necessary?
I picked up the Flowtron SP-200 Security Lantern Pole for my Flowtron bug zapper. The bug zapper specifically states that you need to keep it at least 20 feet away from decks, patios, or any living space. So I got this security lantern pole so I could keep it at the recommended distance away. However, I ended up finding out that there was a layer of concrete under the soil I wanted to set this up in. Meaning I wasn't able to drive the pole into the soil far enough that it would stand properly. This is just a simple pole you connect in three spots. It's really not that sturdy, intersecting pipes aren't tight enough. The only real plus about this unit is the security feature, although, I don't know how many people would steal your bug zapper. I ended up returning mine, because I couldn't install it where I wanted to. I went with a regular plant hanger and that works just fine. For people in a situation where they can't hang it via a plant hanger, then this pole could be worth it. Just note there may be better options out there. If you can't find anything else, this will do the trick.

Not Up To the Task
I purchased this pole to hang the Flowtron FC-8800 Diplomat Insect Control Device. They both arrived at the same time but when I assembled the pole and hung the insect light on it to test it, I quickly realized that the pole was not adequate to support the substantial weight of the device without severe bowing. Consequently I had to do some shade tree engineering and backed the pole with a T-Post, both of which I placed in a 14" hole filled with concrete. This really helped but I can assure you that without the concrete and T-Post, this pole assembly would have been on the ground within a short period of time. In my opinion this pole is very poorly designed based on its stated purpose of supporting this heavy bug light.

Flowtron SP-200 Security Lantern Pole
This review is for the Flowtron SP-200 Security Lantern Pole for Electronic Bug Killers. Amazon shipping with Prime continues to be great! Package arrived on time and adequately secured. The pole itself seems fairly adequate and more than heavy enough to handle the job. The sections fit together snugly. With regard to the lock feature, the j-bolt is either too small or the holes they drilled are too large as there is a lot of play in the assembly. Finally, the nut that they sent to fasten the j-bolt to the arm was too large--was not compatible with the bolt. I ended up going to Ace Hardware to buy a beefier stainless ring and lock nut which is what they should have provided in the first place. But then what can you expect for forty bucks? Be prepared to provide your own fastener. R. Laurent

SOLUTION FOR INSTALLING FLOWTRON LANTERN POLES
I bought two of these lantern poles for my backyard to hang my Flowtrons. Prior to receipt, I looked at different types of stakes on the Internet to stabilize the lantern poles. Not much success for what I was looking for....as I wanted the finished product to look pleasing to the eye. SOLUTION.....I went to Home Depot and went to their steel pipe area and found a 36 inch galvanized steel pipe with a width of one-half inch thick. I used a heavy hammer and pounded the steel rod halfway (18 inches) into the ground where I wanted the Lantern pole located. The lantern pole slips snugly over the steel rod and looks very professional. I then took black zip-ties and attached the (outdoor) electrical cord to the pole.

Sturdy with help
This is a solid very nice pole - holds a lot of weight. My issues are that (unless I'm missing something) the electric cord for the bug killer has to hang down the pole which isn't really pretty. Also, it's heavy so if you are short, you really need someone to help install it (especially when the bug zapper is on it). Finally, I had to put cement around it to hold it up. It stayed by itself but wasn't sturdy enough for me to trust it with a young child running around.
