Great for a Hamster exercise cage!
Overall, a great exercise cage for an adult Syrian hamster! This cage definitely needs to be connected to another Ferplast cage in order to provide adequate space. But the way I have it set up works extremely well. In looking at the Ferplast website, there are many others I wish were available in the US. The overall habitat needed some additions and tweaking but any residence of any type needs that. The combination of the 2 Ferplast cages provides 532.5sq inches which exceeds the minimum hamster space requirements. My hamster frequently runs back and forth between the two, sometimes moving food from one food bowl to another (even though they’re both full, lol) so she seems to be happy. I am a foster parent for the local humane society and my hamster came to stay with me while being treated with medication for an infection. She was such a good addition to the household that I decided to adopt her. Please check your local humane society first. Even for small animals like hamsters, gerbils, mice, rats, guinea pigs, rabbits, chinchillas and all types of birds. Good things happen when you adopt! With that said, here are my detailed findings on this Ferplast hamster cage. Pros: - Wire top: My hamster is a climber and this satisfies her need. I do not see her trying to climb in the lower level but she previously tried climbing a lot in a glass tank. - Height: The height of this cage allows for a proper sized running wheel to be placed in it. One where her back isn’t arched when running. A 7” wheel is too small but the 9” is perfect. - Tube option: I’ve seen articles saying that Syrians need 360sq inches and ones that say 460sq inches of ground space. Tube connection was a big selling point as I knew I would need to add another cage for more space. This factor separated this cage from other similar style/sized ones I was considering. - Cleaning: Very easy to take apart and clean. I can also block off the tube connection with the given caps and clean one cage while my hamster is in the other. Or, do 2 at once and let her run around the house in her ball. - Tube size: I previously tried a Kaytee Crittertrail cage and found that my hamster had some trouble with squeezing through the tubes(which were ~1.3”)(she also broke 2 different cage attachments and got loose twice). Ferplast tubes are ~2” and she has no problem running through even with her cheeks stuffed full. - House: She loves it. As you can see in the pictures, she has another housing option which is larger but she prefers the Ferplast house every night. I did need to put 2 rubber bands on it to keep it together due to my hamster’s abilities to lift the top off. This was a simple fix and makes it easier for cleaning than gluing together. - Cage doors: Initially I didn’t like it, but I’ve found that I can get everything in and out without any issue. I can also pick up my hamster from anywhere in the cage with no issue as well. Also, the latch works well. The mechanics of opening it leads me to believe that a large hamster won’t be able to break out of it. So, looks are deceiving but it actually works quite well. - Security: I’ve found that hamsters are much stronger than they look. As previously noted, my Syrian has broken 2 attachments and escaped twice from a Kaytee Crittertrail cage. As the Ferplast cages do not have attachments these were a perfect choice. With the larger size of the connection tubes, my hamster isn’t putting any strain to get through so I am confident these are not an escape point. As noted with the door, the latch works nicely. It requires me to use 2 fingers to open so I do not see how my hamster could open a closed door. With the previous, Ferplast/Crittertrail set up, she had 2 escapes in 8 days. It’s been 8 days with the Ferplast/Ferplast set up and no escapes. ???? Cons: - Water bottle: Way too small in size. Too risky in case I’m not home daily, which happens. From my perspective, not a selling point for the cage so no need to include it, or increase the size. What I can say, is that I like the water bottle design in that it doesn’t have a spring in the tube, which I have found stops water follow. (Kaytee cages come with a spring in the tube. On a regular size Kaytee bottle you can push the ball all the way up the tube which forces the spring to stay up in the bottle and resolves this issue. I’ve found that Walmart has the old school, no spring design, guaranteed to work and not kill your pet from dehydration at about half the cost. As well as Choco Nose H128 for the no spring design) - Runner Wheel: Way too small for my Syrian hamster. Needed to buy Exotic Nutrition Silent Runner(well worth the $).

Great for price
Water bottle started leaking and had to buy a new one. Other than that it’s a decent cage

Good find for average price
Easy to assemble, tubes come as halves that the rings hold together, besides attaching to one another. Wheel was small as my hamster isn't one of the little mouse size ones. I put in a bigger wheel. The hamster, aka Rosemary, seems to love her new place. She roams and climbs all over in it, when not running her wheel. She poops in the tubes so cleaning means a bit of disassembly, but it's not so difficult. Most likely anyone under 10-12 yrs old would need help doing that. The cage is quite roomy. She could have a friend but, she doesn't so I just play with her pretty much daily. My 2 little dogs love watching her run around in it. The tubes are clear, so hamster tv is quite entertaining. Over all a good purchase with a fairly average price on it. Seems sturdy enough to last some years. I do recommend replacing the bottle with one that hooks on with a wire. The water tube holder let's it slip out of it. Bottom pan is nice and deep, but the top floor isn't so a bit of bedding gets knocked out of the cage. I just vacuum daily, no biggie. Overall a decent product.

Nice cage
Nice cage, but still can't figure out how to put wheel on. Purchased this for my granddaughter as a secondary cage for her hamster, but she rarely uses it.

The hampster loves it.
Easy to put together if you look at the Amazon picture and ignore the assembly instructions. The wheel is too small for our hampster, but we put in another one from the pet store. The hampster really enjoys the tubes.

Good cage
This is my second time buying this cage. We had gerbils years ago and the little bastards chewed the hell out of the tunnels for this cage, so we'd been using the cage without the tunnels for our new baby gerbils. Recently, we decided to buy a second one so we'd have the tunnels for them again. Now the little bastards are chewing the cage itself. Anywhere they can get their teeth onto, they chew. They chew the floor. They chew the tunnels, the mezzanine platform, all of it. We give them plenty of boxboard and chew toys but they seem to love the plastic. Anyway, that's not a reflection of the cage. The cage is fine. But gerbils are little bastards. Don't get gerbils. But if you do, this cage is ok. You may want to try one that is all metal though so they can't chew it to hell.

Doesn’t look like it’s for children.
The hamster that I would be buying is for me not a child & ALL the cages at pet store: are small and VERY little kid themed. When I first saw this cage I loved the tubes and it was 50 something. As I was deciding it went up to 61. When it went down to 56 for a new cage I decided to buy it. Three days later it was up to 78. So happy I bought it when I did: The cage that I received- was bent in multiple places. Likely caused by the delivery driver just not caring. Contacted Amazon- they sent me a free replacement. I actually wrote in the delivery instructions part to treat the package carefully. Cage arrived in excellent shape. I wish the base was a LITTLE deeper. I replaced the water bottle because I simply Didn’t like the plastic one, I also replaced the food dish with a heavier one and replaced the wheel (because it is too small for the breed of hamster I want) with a 9 inch silent runner (exotic nutrition)-fits perfectly! Took my hamster awhile to discover all the aspects of the cage. He likes the house but has now decided to hoard/nest the tubes. I empty them out daily and hopefully my hamster gets the hint that the tubes aren’t a good place for a nest. It’s kind of becoming a bit of a game. Every day I empty them— he comes back with double the amount the next day. I’ve only had my hamster since October 15 and was told he was 2 months.

She made herself right at home though and seems to like her home despite not realizing all of her available ...
So far it's more than enough space for our daughter's Syrian hamster. However, the hamster hasn't figured out the tubing yet, and I had to place the water bottle in the lower level. Moving the water level to the lower level proved a bit difficult because of the tubing in the way not giving clearance for the bottle, and you have top place it a bit high. It also doesn't have a very big wheel, so we'll have to buy her a bigger one. She made herself right at home though and seems to like her home despite not realizing all of her available amenities. 7 months later and she sure found those tubes. Now she has decided to nest/hoard in them, though. They are now a pain to clean, and she's decided to chew on the ridges in the tubes instead of all of her chew toys and sticks that we've bought her, so I've removed the tubes before she chews right through them or something. Still a great cage without the tubes though. Our issues are mainly because our hammy is a bit odd. And we did replace the wheel with a bigger one. It fits on the tubing side with enough clearance in case someone is wondering where to put a bigger wheel.

Good Buy
Overall GREAT cage! My mice absolutely love climbing the bars, plenty of space for two mice and lots of fun stuff for them to do, they love the tubes. Built great and to last, its definitely not cheap! There are a few minor cons to keep in mind. The water bottle, my mice weren't big enough to get water so I had to buy a different one. And then the tunnels have holes, so pee falls through.... we had to take them off and seal the bottom holes. All in all I'm still very happy with my purchase and reccomend!

Not sure how i thought it would hold mice
I ordered this by some back way of researching mouse cages and i ended up ordering this. THIS IS NOT A MOUSE CAGE! why am i so sure, well mice squeeze right between the bars and escape at will. now ill admitt i somehow convinced myself this was a mouse and hamster cage. So i give it a average score, since it looks good and was everything i hoped. It just wont hold mice. I am looking for a hamster now.
