Conté A Paris 2 matite pastello, nere

Brand:Conte a Paris

3.5/5

26.20

Contiene 2 matite Patel nere.

5 for writing, 1 for sharpenability
I’m a woodworker and buy these for marking dark woods, e.g., walnut. Not as soft as chalk and they CAN be sharpened (more on that below) so they’re great for precision measurements. So for that application I’d rate them a 5. However, they are virtually IMPOSSIBLE to sharpen with a pencil sharpener. Any type, any manufacturer, even those that claim to be for colored pencils. If you keep at it, you’ll just wind up with a short little stub the first time you try, since the ‘lead’ just continually breaks before the tip ever gets to a usable point. No matter how careful you try to be, how you hold the pencil, the pressure (or lack thereof) you apply, or whether you try an electric, hand-cranked, or manual sharpener. I finally found only two ways to sharpen these pencils: (1) with a very sharp knife — and even then it’s tricky to avoid breaking off the tip, or (2) by gently holding the pencil against a running stationary belt sander with the axis of the pencil in the direction of belt travel. Now I realize the vast majority of artists, who are the main users of these pencils, aren’t likely to invest in a $1000 machine to sharpen their pencils but, hey, I’m just saying.

Have to work at it!
These pencils offer very little white. Doesn't give a good white covering. Really have to work and take a lot of time to make them work.

Not for white paper
Bought these to go with black sticky notes as a gag gift. The two items are great together but limited in usage apart. A regular graphite pencil is nearly invisible on a black page. A white pencil is equally hard to see on a white page. But together, they are magic.

I thought these would be much harder
I became interested in Conte pastel pencils when I heard an artist state that he had covered the paper in conte prior to testing the chalk pastels he was about to review. I wondered why and started to do research on this. It seemed that most of the reports stated it is harder and more waxy than a regular pastel and as a result is often used as a base. I am just starting to get into charcoals and pastels so I was intrigued. I just received them along with several types of chalk pastel sticks. I really like these. I still am not educated enough on hard pastels as I only have one Derwent Inktense and am not fond of it at all. I thought the Conte's would be like that but they are not. This is an easy pencil to work with and yet sturdy on paper and as a pencil. This will be one of my utility pencils, like my Ebony or my burnisher or blender pencil. Cudos to Conte, I will purchase more when money permits.

An essential part of my drawing supplies!
I really enjoy working with these! I use them with graphite, mostly on Strathmore toned Grey paper, for the really dark parts of the drawing, and it even covers graphite quite well (particularly useful with the white version of this product). I also use them on pastel and charcoal paper on their own. They're too big for regular pencil sharpener, so i use an x-acto knife, or just plain old razor blades, then sharpen the tip with sanded paper. Their heavier weight than charcoal pencils is quite agreable and theyr are also longer than other pastel pencil i use (like the faber castell pitt pastel pencils, for example) so they last a while longer, wich is great. Not too dusty, they also erase rather well. I have many stashed, I wouldnt do without them!

Excellent Pastel Pencils!
The Conte au Paris pastel pencils are wonderful overall with the biggest negatives being the smaller colour selection (48), and that a big chunk of them are not lightfast. Performance wise though - they are excellent. Gorgeous colour saturation, a large, robust colour core, and although the core remains fragile as all pastel pencils are, I had no issues when sharpening (just make sure you use a very sharp pencil sharpener or a utility knife). A bonus is the black and white are also sold in blister packs of 2 which is excellent since those are 2 pigments I use a lot, and both colours offer excellent performance, and are lightfast. The Conte Black pastel pencil is also one of my favourite black pastel pencils second only to the General's Multipastels; and I find it superior to both the Faber-Castell Pitt pastels, and the Stabilo Carbothello. Recommended.

Excellent Pastel pencil
I love the lay down of these pastel pencils. White is very vibrant and blends well. Only issue I need to find a sharpener that fits these. I may have to break down and by the $10 Conte a Paris specialty sharpener.
