Solid loop for most hammers!
I carry everything from large framing hammers to rather small hammers for finish work, and this loop fits the bill for all of them. It's built solid, and you can position it wherever you like on your waist. It's also a great addition if you happen to need a second hammer with you, but your tool belt only has room for one.

Well Made, Large Capacity
This hammer holder has quite a large capacity -- I can't imagine any hammer that you would want to have hanging on your belt not fitting in the large metal loop. I bought this as an adjunct to a leather tool pouch (also from Custom Leathercraft). The tool pouch has a small hammer loop on it, but it's tight with a finish hammer and way too small for a framing hammer. Hence the outboard hammer holder. Luckily the two vertical slots in the leather back of this hammer holder were large enough that I could (barely) squeeze the quick-release snaps of the tool belt through them, in order to add this to the existing belt. In use, this hammer holder tends to move around so that it is directly behind my butt (with the tool pouch on my right side) but that's not horrible. I could slide this around to my left side if it became an issue. Because of the large size of the loop it is very easy to get the hammer in and out -- it does not catch or hang up on the loop. Not much else to say about this product -- it seems to be well made out of decent materials. If you need to add a larger hammer holder to an existing tool belt, this is not a bad way to do it.

Where I hang my hammer
This is where I hang my hammer, or so far rather, my mattock, when weeding my lawn and garden. Camping weather is coming. When I go camping, this is where I will hang my hammer. ...or mattock, or hatchet, or something "hikey" like that. Based on the limited number of times I've used this in the yard, I am certain this will do just fine in the Wild.

Good hammer loop for a man's belt, or utility belt
Personally, I needed something to put my rock-hammer on, when prospecting. Being a 20-ounce hammer with a 6-inch rear pick, and a big thick handle like on a 3-lb hammer, I was worried it wouldn't fit when I ordered this. I was wrong. This loop fit my stanley ripping hammer, and also fit my rock hammer (fit the rock hammer almost perfectly). It is for bigger hammers, the leather is pretty tough, the loop appears to be stainless, and overall it has a good heft to it. The belt-slots are large, for a big belt, up to about 2.5-inches. If you do any gemstone hunting, or dry placer gold prospecting, you can't afford to be without this little tool. It really keeps you from always hunting your hammer, or not having it with you when you need it most. It also frees up your hands, as I like to walk with a walking staff when searching for garnets (snakes are never friendly, but are quite good at camouflage, and where I rock hunt, I think all the rattlers are broken, they never seem to rattle until AFTER they've nailed me on my snake garters). Do yourself a favor, and try adding 4-ounces to your belt - you'll be glad you did.

Quality product
I've been buying CLC products for years now and they never fail to disappoint. Quality leatherwork and I throw my 21 OZ framing hammer in this thing all day and it's perfect. It's been rained on, dropped from 3 stories onto concrete, thrown into the back of a work van every day and it just doesn't give up. For a couple of dollars, you really cant go wrong with this.

Just as described
I bought this to hold a hatchet, didn't quite work because it doesn't have enough metal on the back side.
