Soft, shiny curls
I bought these curlers to replace the high- heat styling tools that were damaging my hair. Overall, these are my favorite hot rollers. The plastic/foam rollers are light weight and stay in my hair much better than the ceramic rollers included in my old hot roller set. The roller covers don't all fit tightly enough to hold securely. Metal duck bill clips are really helpful but require additional time to put in and remove. It would be helpful if the sets came with either large or small rollers rather than all sizes. There aren't enough in the sizes that I use to roll all of my hair and additional rollers are quite expensive. Amazon asks for a rating for travel. This would not be a great travel set. The streamer is small enough but the rollers would need their own tote bag. Overall, this is a good set but additional rollers and clips would be helpful.

I love this
This is my third set! My first one was given to me and my sisters when I was a teenager, by my mom. When I moved out of the house, I bought my own set. Then 10-20 years later or so I accidently dropped it and it broke. I was heartbroken so I bought this again. I LOVE that it came with a bag to store everything it. I have all my old and new curlers together in the bag, with the steamer. The only reason why it gets 4 stars instead of 5 stars is because the one I bought YEARS ago, have the curlers sizes in different colors. These curlers are all the same color, no matter the size. However, the nice thing is, it does have the size written on the curlers, something that was on the older curlers, only I never realized it before because I only paid attention to the colors.

Amazing Product - But Know A Few Things
When these rollers came out in the early 80s, women generally understood more about using water to set hair than they do now. Women used to wet-set hair periodically and rely on the durability of the water-set hair to get them through several days of hairstyles. Today women are much more familiar with heat-setting hair (with irons, blowdryers), and using products to keep the style for a DAY. The "steam" concept suggests heat is involved, so women expect using the product to be as easy as--say--a curling iron, but this products is actually an ingenious way of wet-setting with a small amount of heat involved. As a result, you get long-lasting water-set curls (as if you slept in wet rollers the night) in a FRACTION of the time. Water-set curls/waves last a lot longer than heat-set styles. But, for women used to heat-set hair ONLY, there's a learning curve. If you're removing a roller and a particular curl didn't set, you can consider why rather than believe the product doesn't work--and your hair will set better next time...AND you'll understand more about hair in general and your hair, in particular. The picture reviews show many women with great results and a few women who think the product doesn't work, but EVERYONE'S hair--regardless of texture or thickness, is reliably set with water. As you roll your hair, make a note of how you're doing it, and if--afterwards--your hair comes off a roller with a weak or unstsable curl, consider: - How long was the roller steamed beforehand and/or did you steam the cover? (more steam creates more curling power but also takes longer to dry) - Did the roller flop around while drying? ("stillness" while drying is very important for results, the sides of the rollers have slits which you can use to secure with a bobby pin or clip) - How tightly did you roll? (tightness affects stability and size of curl) - How much hair did you wrap (generally, the more hair your grab with the roller, the looser the resulting curl). - How long did you leave rollers in the hair? (more steam requires more drying time) - Etc. All of these factor into the tightness and stability of the curl AND the guide included with the product explains a lot of this. If you want a long-lasting curl and are willing to do a small amount of learning, you can use these rollers! As for the reviewer who said this popped and burned shortly after plugging it in -- did you follow directly and fill the tank with water first??

Had one of these a long time ago, this one doesnt work as well
I had one of these 20 years ago, and it curled my hair so well! Either my hair has changed, or the product has. I find it doesnt get as hot. Curls did not stay, oh well!!

Incredible alternative to wet setting and heat setting
The media could not be loaded. First and foremost, I'm not a professional. I have never had success with hot rollers, for whatever reason. It always feels like the only part of my hair that takes any curl is the end. And they just don't give me lasting curls. Wet setting usually is my go-to. But I also really like sleep. Once upon a time, getting ready involved a curling iron that took a thousand years to wrap every strand just for sub-par results and damaged hair. The trick to curling your hair effectively is for your hair to dry and/or cool in the shape you want. And for ALL of it to do that, not just the tip (which is why they suggest using a curling iron from the root). This how the Caruso is so effective. The steam makes your hair do both, given enough time to set. That's why curling your hair with curling irons falls flat so quickly. When I use the Caruso, I will set my hair with the rollers (I find it extremely beneficial to set the clip over the steamer for a few seconds to get the hair that is not making direct contact with the roller nice and warm) and then wrap it with a head scarf and let it sit while I do my makeup. On average, it's about an hour, but I wait until the very last minute to remove them. Some tips! -purchase additional rollers if you're hoping to use the same size roller on your whole head -don't leave the roller or cap over the steam for too long. If condensation builds enough to drip, your hair will get wet and never dry. This system is not meant to dry your hair. -if you try to roll too much hair, the cap won't fit, if it's not enough hair, the roller will slip right off, but sometimes the cap for whatever reason, just won't get a tight grip no matter what you do. In this case, try flipping the cap over. I've come to recognize which caps aren't a snug fit and I roll them onto the top of my head, so they have less gravity to fight. This is also why I wrap them up with a silk scarf Some cons -as someone mentioned these are super annoying to travel with. I mean, it's easier than traveling with hot rollers for sure, but between the hard plastic cap and the large steamer, it takes up space in luggage for sure. -like I mentioned above some of caps are loose-fitting. I don't know if that's because the heat and steam stretch them out over time or what, but the cap plays a huge role in getting a propper curl, so it's worth trying to make it work. All in all, I LOVE this system. My hair is about shoulder length now, but I usually keep it shorter. At it's shortest, the petit was my jam, but I currently use the small, sometimes the medium. I have no idea how you would get a tight curl with long hair, I'd imagine you need a lot of rollers. But it's perfect for my hair. It's my go-to when a wet set just isn't an option. It's faster and healthier than hot curling irons and has better results than hot rollers.

What's Wrong with this System?
What’s wrong with these rollers you ask? The easier question would be: What's right with this hair styling system? This product photographs well, but . . . 1. The sponges, when steamed, become slippery and the dry hair will not “stick” to the roller. 2. The “shields” do not grip tightly enough and easily unroll. 3. The size labels are the same colour as the roller and are difficult to read. (The letters printed in a contrasting colour would help. Better yet, make each roller size its own colour.) 4. The “clicking” noise using the ION setting becomes quite annoying. 5. The storage bag is just that, a bag. Even if the rollers are sorted by size when put away, they likely will not stay ordered for the next use. Some kind of “peg rack” for storing would be better. Basically, the system is useless for the purposes for which it was designed: Ease and Speed. This is no quick 30-minute “set and go” method to style hair. The only way to use the rollers is to mist the hair with water first so that the UN-steamed (dry) sponge will grip the strands of hair. Doing so, therefore, eliminates the “steaming” process meant to be used on dry hair. Without using the steam machine, essentially, it is a standard set of rollers. From sorting, to rolling, to re-rolling (the ones which fall out), to drying, this becomes is a 60-90 minute ordeal, er, headache. I wanted this to work, so tried several approaches. I hoped it was simply a matter of practice. I would return this product for refund, but the deadline to do so has passed.

Awesome Hot Steam Rollers
I’ve used Babyliss for years. After reading the reviews for the Caruso Hot Steam Rollers, I thought I’d give these a try. Over the years when my Babyliss would finally fail I did try some other Hot Rollers but always was disappointed and ended up giving them away, and buying my Babyliss. But these Caruso Hot Rollers have absolutely blown me away. I’m so very impressed my hair is hard to curl and these do the trick. Quick and Easy to use, curl lasts all day. Plus way easier on my hair. Don’t change anything Caruso you’ve got me sold on you.

Work good; but you really need to wait the 20 min for hair to dry out
Product works as described, but you really can’t rush taking the curlers out! I waited 12 min, but my hair was still damp so the curls didn’t stay too well. Furthermore, you need to touch up the awkward curls with a curing iron. That is not the fault of the product; it’s just a fact of life. The positive side is that these curlers put moisture in your hair so the curling iron is less damaging. Sometimes the clips are hard to clip on, and I wish there weren’t so many LARGE ones, because I have short hair. I can see on their site that you can order more of the size you like.

Doesn't set curls for me
I've used hot rollers for years, but the flocking was wearing off my old set so I decided to look for a new one. I knew the old ones worked best if my hair was a little damp when I put them in, so I hoped the steam with these ones would give a similar result even if I hadn't just washed my hair. It doesn't. It feels like the steam doesn't get the roller hot enough to actually set a curl, and it doesn't dry completely even after I've left them in for 45 minutes. Since it leaves my hair damp, the curl falls right out. These are a non-returnable item, but I contacted Amazon and they did give me my money back; I purchased a set of ceramic rollers with it and I'm much happier with them.

Good Product, but Learning Curve Involved!
My hair is thick, coarse, and heavy. I find that my hair holds a curl best if I use a flat iron, however, an iron or curling wand tends to give me very defined curls that look kind of poofy, whereas I wanted to get something that can give me soft waves which is pretty tough with stick straight hair. My hair is usually either straight, or super curly. After doing a full day of research on hot rollers and steam rollers, I decided to go with this Caruso set. The packaging looks like it came straight out of the 80's/90's, but sometimes, the best products are those that have been around for years, right? This set comes with 30 rollers, 6 of each size - I wish you could choose the combo of rollers you want since only want the jumbo and large ones and would likely never use the medium, small or petite ones on myself. The unit puts out steam very quickly. After plugging in the unit, I brush out my hair, take out the first roller and remove the clip, pull out the first section of hair and the steam is already coming out. There is definitely a learning curve to using this. The first few times, my hair lost the curls very quickly even after leaving the rollers in for ~1 hour. The next couple times, I took out the rollers and I looked like a mad woman. I brushed out the curls with a boar brush and was left with a horrible hair style that I was tempted to wear in a pony tail. Finally, on my last attempt prior to giving up completely,I tried taking the first roller out shortly after putting in the last one, and I got crazy curls that settled down to waves after 10-15 minutes. I normally don't need a lot of product to hold curls if I use my flat iron, but with the Caruso unit I definitely need hairspray after. Even thoughout the day, my waves were getting looser and looser, something I'm not used to when curling with my flat iron. HOWEVER, for days when I want some texture and volume in my super boring straight hair, this does the trick. So, while not a replacement for my curling wands and certainly not my flat iron, this Caruso steam hair setter does have its own purpose. I was hoping this would save me time, but it still takes me a total of ~30 minutes to put in the rollers and take them out, whereas using an iron would only take me 20 minutes. Perhaps I will get better with practice. Overall, I think this is a good product. Really-anything that can curl my hair, I'd consider good. I think the clips can improve; sometimes one of the corners catch on improperly and the whole thing becomes stuck, meaning I have to take it out and try again. As well, I'm not a fan that the foam on the rollers degrade over time and replacement rollers seem very $$$ - since I would probably use once or twice a week, I think it'll still last me years but not really looking forward to the day I have to spend $20+ to replace 6 rollers!
