Brother Knocks it Out of the Park With Their Printer Thanks to This Cartridge

Consistently getting hundreds more pages than comparable HP printer and cartridge combo now after 6 years and counting. Oh, and the HP can't even make two-sided copies. Maybe they've corrected this but they still can't come close in dollars and...sense!

Hard to beat Brother toners for Brother printers!

I have a Brother laser printer. I previously tried compatible non-Brother toners in my printer on three separate occasions with mixed results, good and bad. Ultimately in my quest to save a little money I discovered how poorly one of those non-Brother toner cartridges performed. I've switched back to Brother toner cartridges with this purchase, and while Brother toner cartridges cost more, at least they consistently perform quite well.

Didn't last as long as advertised.

I loved the quality of the prints; however, recently I had to take the cartridge out to fix a jam and when I put it back in the printer flashed low toner, we kept using it and even though there hasn't been any change in the prints it now won't allow me to print without replacing the toner cartridge.

I have reordered this toner cartridge several times for my Brother laser printer and they have lasted a year or more. This one, ordered in December< only printed about 650 pages before it was "low" at the end of March. (I opened a new ream of paper at the same time as I installed this toner and there are only a few sheets left.) Tax returns were the majority printed and at least half were in draft mode. Very disappointed in this recent purchase.

Genuine Brother replacement, prints many pages

Some reviewers have asserted that this is not a genuine Brother product, but the one I received is genuine. It comes in a Brother cardboard box with a UPS return label for returning the old cartridge to Brother. It was easy to install and the three page test print-out looks fine. I did see something odd in the test pages, which you can print by hitting the "Go" button three times in rapid succession: it states that I am printing at 600dpi and am not in Toner Save mode, but when I go to Devices & Printers in Windows and look at Printing Preferences, it shows differently, that I'm printing at 300dpi and am in Toner Save mode. This is the first cartridge I've bought for this printer; the original cartridge printed 821 pages. I probably would have printed more pages if I had set it to Toner Save mode and to 300dpi sooner. I didn't do it until just a week before the toner ran out. Many reviewers here have commented on the toner warning light coming on much too early. This led me to wait too long to order a replacement - by coincidence the toner ran out the first time I tried to print after ordering a replacement! I have a spare printer, so it wasn't a problem for me, but if you don't have a spare printer, don't wait too long to order a replacement cartridge. Amazon's prompt shipping helped. I have Prime and used standard two day shipping, but the cartridge arrived the day after I placed the order. I do have two complaints, and am knocking off one star for them: 1) The inconsistency in reporting the DPI at which I'm printing and about whether or not I'm printing in Toner Save mode. 2) The inability to see the toner level or number of pages printed without using up three pages printing it out. On the positive side, the printed report is thorough, which I like. I just wish I could see the toner level and pages printed without using up three pages and that much ink. UPDATE: I've just ordered my second of this toner cartridge. Just like the first time, it's the genuine Brother cartridge, including the return label for recycling the old one. I'm impressed enough that I'm raising my original 4 star rating to 5 stars. I got 2,371 pages out of this cartridge, compared to 821 pages for the stock cartridge that came with the printer. As so many others have reported, you'll get warnings that it's almost empty long before it needs to be replaced. In my case, I think it was about 600 pages before it was really empty. Near the end of its life, the printing looked like the ink had run out, but just running the tab on the corona wire back and forth a few times solved the problem. This happened twice before the ink actually did run out. I have two printers (the other is an HP 8100 Office Jet for color printing) and do a lot of printing. This cartridge and the HL-2270DW printer it's in have both proven to be reliable workhorses.

Beware poor quality control

This cartridge produced vertical dropouts/fadeouts immediately upon installation. I changed back to my old cartridge and the problem went away. So it's definitely the cartridge and not the drum or other printer component. This isn't an isolated case. See also the recent (July 27, 2016) review by J. Varner, who reports fadeouts with a brand-new cartridge. Unfortunately I had bought this cartridge to have on hand when the need arose, so by now the return period is past. DO NOT buy this cartridge until right when you need it, in case you get a dud and have to return. When they work, they work great. But be aware that you're taking a chance with this product and be sure you can return within the allowed time. You have to expect some duds if you take a gamble on recycled cartridges. But poor quality control is unacceptable when paying top dollar for the genuine item.

Be Aware

The expected lifetime yield of 2,600 pages is correct but it can stop printing at 2000 copies and not let you continue. I watched a YouTube video on how to reset cartridge and I got four more months of printing. So if you feel you did not get the possible number of copies consider this step, you will need to do the research and follow the instructions. It is worth the effort.

Great toner, exactly as expected, with nothing less.

I think the Brother Toner Cartridges carries a premium price for a good reason. These things are no doubt expensive, but for that expensive you have what is FOR SURE a working toner cartridge. I have yet purchased a genuine Brother cartridge that has failed me. Yet the first third party cartridge I purchased crapped out on me. Started smudging toner half way through its life, justifying its price, which was 50% of this brother toner. So just stick with the genuine stuff. And from a fiscal perspective, with this high yield toner, I was still doing less than 0.05$ a page. So if you think about it, going to Staples to do you printing is still more expensive and this toner's price can still be justified.

Brother OEM Black Toner Cartridge

My wife and I both have Brother HL-2240 laser printers. These Brother OEM toner cartridges are well built and have have never failed us yet. The high yield TN-450 can last for well over a year before replacement depending on how much printing you do. Perhaps 2,600 pages.

Genuine Brother toner

Received in very short time exactly what was shown, and a genuine Brother part (toner). I use lesser quality print (300 dpi) or sometimes 600, so that gets me even more pages per toner, making it good value and longevity for my use. I also like the fact that Brother gives you a free UPS sticker so that you can send your old toner and box back to them for recycling. Very happy with this purchase. Have purchased from this site about 4 times now over the years.
