Stonehenge Aqua Hot Press paper is very well suited for detailed illustration work!
UPDATE: I’ve been using Stonehenge Aqua hot press paper for about a year now and have become very accustomed to working with it in my illustration work. I adapted my technique a bit to accommodate the paper’s very smooth, slightly delicate surface and quick drying time. The effort has definitely been worth it and am very satisfied with how this hot press paper performs. I decided to update my review here, as well as add a few photos of my illustrations painted on it, to reflect what I have been able to accomplish in my illustration work since this has become the go-to hot press paper used in my work. I have also increased my rating on this paper from four to five stars, since I have overcome the issue that I mentioned in my original review regarding masking tape. I found two brands of artist tape that I can remove without damaging the paper - the white artist tapes from both ProArt and Art Alternatives work well, as long as you remove the tape slowly and with care. Also, I have been able to use masking fluid on this paper without any problems. You do have to make sure it is completely dry first and not leave it on the paper for too long, but that is fairly true regardless of the paper used. I try to stay within a 2-24 hour window and have had no problems doing that with this paper. Note: I used masking fluid for the sprinkles in the macaron’s illustration that I’ve shared and the paper was a-ok after removing it, as you can see. Side note: I’m also glad to see that the title of this item has been corrected to reflect that this is Stonehenge Aqua paper and not Yupo. ORIGINAL REVIEW: First of all, this is NOT Yupo paper. This is Stonehenge Aqua Hot Press paper under the wrong title. I was hesitant to order because the title of this item was changed to Yupo, but I took the chance and ordered it hoping to receive Stonehenge and that's what I received. Now, that said, I've tried several different brands of watercolor paper in both cold and hot press surfaces. I most recently have been buying Fabriano Artistico, but since the manufacturing process was changed a couple of years ago, the paper quality has not been the same. I needed to find a good hot press paper for detailed work. Thus far, this paper is fitting my needs fairly well. It is bright and smooth. Inks on it don't feather nearly as much as on Fabriano Artistico. And, it holds up fairly well to scrubbing. Pros: * It has a smooth surface suitable for ink, watercolor, gouache and airbrush, but also enough tooth for colored pencils. It's versatile. * Colors hold their vibrancy fairly well, even when working with many layers. The value shift as watercolors and inks dry is mild. * When doing detailed work, edges remain nice and crisp. It really holds details very well. Big plus here. * The paper handles moderate scrubbing without pilling or looking overworked. * Other: Stonehenge watercolor papers are starch-sized, making them suitable for use by vegan artists. Cons: * The main negative I have with this paper so far is that the surface is delicate when used with masking tape. And, I mean delicate! Even my drafting dots, with a low tack designed specifically for use on paper, have caused a bit of the surface to tear off when removed. It is important to use a hair dryer to heat the tape and soften the glue before attempting to remove it. I don't know how well this paper will withstand the use of masking fluid, but I have some concerns. I will definitely test it before using it on an actual piece of work. It's just something to consider when buying this paper. Other: * This paper dries relatively quickly. It's certainly been quicker than Fabriano Artistico for me thus far. I've found that, when painting in my studio, I have to wet the paper twice before using wet-in-wet techniques to get the paint to flow well. As of this review, Stonehenge is slightly more affordable than Fabriano Artistico and fares better with ink and detail work using watercolor. I will continue to use it for illustration, reserving the Fabriano for use in looser work where less detail or use of ink is required.

Beautiful Paper
The quality is superb,100% Cotton, and has a lovely texture. The pack label says it has 15 sheets in the pack. However, mine has only 11 sheets. (I counted the pages four times, just to verify.) I don't know if that shortage is "usual" but I still am rating the paper at 5 stars! The papers were "sealed" all around and each piece has to be separated on 4 sides, instead of the usual one side. The company has 3,000 diffferent papers. And if one of them doesn't suit your needs, they say they will make it for you! Well, I am sure I can find anything I need with that selection! Talk about a company that cares for its customers.

Magnificent for colour pencils
I just ordered this product based on some artists' reviews on YouTube. I must confess I have completely fallen in love with it. The grain is slightly smoother than an HP Fabriano Artistico, yet it allows for many layers of colour pencils to be applied. I would say the texture is more like a Strathmore Bristol Vellum but with the advantage that you can get it soaked with an initial layer of watercolour, India ink or Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Brushes. I have only used it with my Faber-Castell Polychromos on top of an FC Albrecht Dürer layer. I am yet to test how my Caran d'Ache Luminance and Prismacolor Premier perform on this paper but I am sure I won't be having any problems. The only fault I can find is that the whole block is not glued to the base cardboard or maybe it is actually a manufacturing flaw. I purchased 2 blocks but I have not removed the plastic wrapping off my second block so I cannot tell if that block is also unglued to the board.

A plastic ruler is your friend with this paper
I got this because I wanted to try hot press watercolor paper. And while it works well I can only give it 3 stars overall. I don’t know if all Legion pads are like this or just mine, but mine is glued around all 4 sides with just about an inch and a half or so of unglued portion on one side. I have to take my ruler and run it through the opening along the edges to get a piece off. This is time consuming and sometimes difficult as you need to be careful so not to rip the page.

Beautiful paper
I am definitely a person who goes through paper like crazy and wanted to find a new brand (as I am now experimenting with different brands and products to see what I like to use). This is my first waterblock, but I am not shy to watercolor paper. I’ve used several mediums on this paper such as india ink, watercolor, qouache, and alcholo based markers and they’ve all worked fine on it ad the paper stood bery well. The paper feels nice and holds up to large amounts of water—Which I do work with a lot—I am Bery curious to try out the rest of these products and can’t wait to buy more of this specific paper when I run out.

Perfect for watercolor lettering!
This paper is so smooth! I do a lot of watercolor lettering and this paper is absolutely perfect for it! The colors are so beautiful on this too! I also love the block style pad. This is so helpful and I absolutely have no problems with warping anymore! You won’t be disappointed with this! The cold pressed paper is also a dream to use and Legion’s Kraft paper is my favorite out there!

This is now my favorite watercolor paper
This is now my favorite watercolor paper. It is really ultra smooth and easy to get in fine details. But it is also very easy to lift off paint. I easily and quickly adjusted some values by lifting out Paynes Grey after 24 hours of drying! Wonderful paper! Arches is a struggle for me to work on comparatively. Really happy to find this paper. I will be getting more!

Nice for the orice
This was my first picture with pen stippling and worked great! Haven’t tried watercolor yet but looking forward to it. Love the feel of the paper.

hmmm
The protective cover is paper thin and doesn't cover the booklet properly. So if you're not super organized (like myself) it doesn't do a very good job of protecting the art you've been currenting. It also doesn't come with anything to help you remove your paper from the booklet so be prepared to buy one if you dont have one of those lying around. I'll repost again on the paper shortly when I go to try the Paper out. :)

Watercolor paper block damaged
I was disappointed to see that the block of professional grade watercolor paper was damaged (see photos). I have not used the top sheet so I don't know how many sheets have been damaged. The courier package looked OK and, given the pattern of indentations on the paper, it does not seem likely that the damage occurred through the packaging in transit. Only 15 sheets in the block so....
