Very good unit but liked the previous model better
I bought this unit to replace the previous model because, after 20 years of use, my old one quit working. When I saw this, I jumped on it. However it doesn't have the free floating laser feature. Instead the laser beam is fixed and you have to basically get it level by reading a floating gauge and turning the whole unit until the indicator is in the level position. That is not easy to do with one hand while you try to mark location with the other. The floating laser beam in the old model automatically stayed level whether slightly turned it or not. Still a very useful tool and does have a better way to mount it to a wall for hands free use but I don't use it much if I'm measuring for a picture a certain height from the ceiling or furniture below. Good unit but I liked the previous free floating laser beam better.

GREAT for hanging pictures!
Perfect for the average homeowner to hang pictures, decorations, shelves, etc. Easy to use and accurate (just know how/when to toggle between the "locked" and "self-leveling" laser functions). This can toggle between the laser projecting a true/self level beam or be locked into a stationary position (if you want to simply project a straight line, no matter if "level" or at a 45 degree, 90 degree angle, or whatever you want). I have not used the little pin that is supposed to be poked into drywall as a hands-free anchor, yet, but seems like it could have been beefed up a bit more. For hanging straight pictures, I just haven't found the need to use this feature. I bought my brother the exact same model because I use mine so much and it has made hanging pictures/household items a breeze, while satisfying my "OCD" nature regarding level and aligned anyting. LOL.

A Great Product that Could Easily be Greater
Operation is simple. Helped me level blinds and install shelving first day. I only have two comments: 1) Using it at a baseboard to project vertical lines up a wall is an important use case. But the bottom is not flat, instead it is slightly curved with a problematic ridge. Why? 2) It is clear from the confusion here that the self-leveling mode of operation is inadequately explained in the user manual. Works great once you figure it out.

Great For Typical Household Projects
I've recently purchased a new home and have used this laser level for approximately 1 month. Typical projects included hanging artwork, curtains, etc. As an engineer I can say this is one of the most useful tools I've ever purchased because it easily eliminates a lot the guesswork associated with creating a level line of reference over a long distance. The self leveling feature is by far the most useful quality about this product. I had to hang two sets of curtains on the same wall. Using 3M Command Adhesive strips I mounted the laser level at the desired height in the space between my window and sliding glass door. I projected the self leveling laser line to the right and I mounted the curtain rod over my sliding glass door. I then pushed the side button on the laser level to project the line to left and proceeded to mount the other curtain rod over a window. Both curtain rods were easily mounted level and at the exact same height - no guess work - no need to use a standard level or tape measure. It really made the job a breeze. Even on a bright afternoon you can still see the line in a well lit room, however I'd be skeptical that it would work outdoors in a bright environment. The line easily projects over 20 feet which should be fine for almost any interior wall. Corners are a bit of a problem b/c this unit is wall mounted, but moving it is quite easy. It does have the ability to lock the laser in place (such that it does not auto level) so you can point it in a particular direction / angle. The angle gauge is completely useless. There are stick marks, but it does not have the actual number of degrees labeled. You'll have to use a protractor or just "eye-ball it" if you're doing an angle measurement. Keep in mind what you're purchasing: this is a general household use level. It's not an adjustable rotary level that a contractor would purchase for a few hundred dollars. I gave it five stars b/c it fulfills (what I consider to be) its intended purpose perfectly. Bottom line - this will give you a horizontal and vertical level line of reference that will work for nearly all typical household chores such as mounting wall decor, curtains, etc. The $25 you spend is WELL worth the hassle it can save you.

Terrible design
This product is awful. The attachment that connects it to the wall is a nail on a weird hinge that never goes in straight without wobbling and popping out and gouging a whole in your wall. And get this: there's a large plastic bump on the bottom so there is no way to just place this down flat on the floor or other surface. This is a poorly designed, unusable piece of garbage. Do not buy.

Great for the price!
I've used this laser level professionally for 2 years and find it a huge time saver when lining up multiple wall objects. After using colleagues' B&D Bullseye's, I finally bought my own. I have to say, there was a problem as soon as I opened the box. The protractor would not spin freely! I opened up the unit and discovered a simple issue: the protractor disc was not fully snapped into place, so it was making contact with another part in the unit. In any case, the auto-leveling ability is the crucial feature for the product without it there's no point; it's essentially like a third-hand. I haven't been able to identify any other comparable laser product to be honest. Big-brand laser products are mainly tripod-based meant for working in static spaces for awhile (ie tiling a room). Tripod lasers are pointless for speed-mounting art work, jumping around to 20 different rooms in an hour... no time for to set tripods up.

Weaker beam which dims on long ranges compared to oher similar priced products with green laser. This was the first in the market more than a decade ago, but didn't improve to keep up with existing competition.
