Not Flat
You'd expect an expensive piece of metal like this to be both flat, sharp, and symmetrical. It was at best one of these. It's just made very sloppily. The center hole is not centered, and the whole thing rocks when placed on a flat surface. OK for the intended purpose, perhaps, but not very good if you want to use this for a flat bottomed plane unless you want to do a lot of grinding and sanding.

Poor quality control
My expectations weren't all that high for the price point, but I did expect the blade to be square. Both blades were a 16th of an inch out of square making them completely unusable until I have the edge reground. Save your money and buy a better quality blade.

Not Totally Useless
I bought this to use as a a kind of straight edge and support for a thin diamond sharpening stone. It turns out I don't need it for that. That being the case I was going to use it as surface planer. Wrong. This thing has a severe curve in it. I'll try to find a use for it other than it's intended purpose. I didn't expect it to be high quality like my Lie-Nielson irons but this thing is garbage. Most often you do get what you pay for.

Look elsewhere.
Absolutely awful. I didn't expect it to be sharp "out of the box", but I also didn't expect the need to spend over an hour flattening the back before I could even begin to sharpen it. This, combined with the fact that the edges were sharper than the bevel, and needed to be smoothed before flattening the back, else I would have cut my hands to bloody ribbons just getting it to serviceable condition. As far as the steel quality, I'd guess hardened high carbon, nothing special, and eventually it took a shaving sharp edge. For that, it gets a lone star. Unless you have the patience, tools, and ability to get it to the point that it can do work, look elsewhere.

Needs some finishing work - this should be expected
This blade is a 3rd of the price of something like a Veritas and it should be expected that some of the finishing work will need to be done by you, this is a large part of why this blade is less expensive. Don't fool yourself thinking that you can get something with a perfect flat cutting side out of the box for this price, that kind of finishing work is expensive, but thankfully easy to do yourself and you only have to do it once. I finished mine using sandpaper on a flat piece of MDF, grinding the flat back (cutting face) properly flat along the blade end then flipped it over and finished the beveled side using a jig. 60 to 120 grit. I then followed the same process to polish it up using wet-sandpaper glued to flat MDF 400 to 1500 grit in stages. I then sharpened and stropped the blade and installed it into my old Millers Falls 814 (#5 jack plane) and it shaves through wood like it was butter. The whole process took about an hour and aside from regular sharping will never have to be done again unless the cutting edge gets damaged which is true of any plane iron. It did take a lot of grinding down with the sandpaper to get it flat on the cutting side and I did notice some minor pitting at the corners but those got ground away while getting it flat and ended up being of no consequence. The bevel is pre-ground slightly out of square but that too is of little consequence as long as your final bevel that you grind on is square. All-in-all, I give this 4 out of 5 stars because it is a great value if you're willing to finish off the grinding yourself but it is quite rough out of the package.

Not very good
Very difficult to flatten the back of the iron. Rough machining on perimeter surfaces.

This shouldn't have been up for sale.
Sadly the blade back is ground off at both corners. This has ruined the blade, doesn't cut at the corners about 1/4 inch. I'm not impressed with them even putting this up for sale.

It could have been honed sharper.
