Worked really well on my 1/4 acre lot!

This thing is extremely light, assembles in minutes, and does a pretty darn good job! I've been dethatching my lawn for years with commercial grade rentals from the local hardware store. Usually I would rent a machine for a couple hours to do my 1/4 acre lot and that would cost me around $50-60 each time. I didn't think that price was unreasonable so I kept doing it for years. I found the Greenworks 10 amp electric model the other day for $90 and I thought what the heck give it a try! I'm glad I did! This was my first experience using an electric dethatcher so I wasn't sure how it would compare to a commercial gas powered one. At first I struggled a bit trying to keep the cord out of my path but that was to be expected. Once I figured out a system I was dethatching pretty efficiently. I will be the first to say I really should've cut my grass first to help with the whole operation but I was in a time crunch as it just arrived yesterday and there was rain in the forecast. With all that being said this dethatcher did a really good job(on the highest setting) of removing the thatch while leaving the good grass in place. After reading some of the reviews on here I was really careful not to pull the dethatcher backwards while it was running. Because it is super light it is easy enough to tip up and turn to go the opposite direction you came from. I really wish I would've stopped to take some pictures because this machine did pull up a significant amount of thatch. For my 1/4 acre lot I filled up my full size truck bed plus a couple more big lawn bags. Some asked if this is self-propelled and it is NOT but with the rotating tines you don't really need to push it either! It really is just a matter of guiding it along your path and making sure you are going at a slow steady speed to get all the thatch. Pros: Lightweight, pulls thatch without harming good grass, inexpensive, very easy to operate Cons: It is corded so that is a bit of a pain, Only 14 inch dethatching path

The Unexpected Benefits: A Lawn Care Story

I recently purchased the Greenworks 10 Amp 14" Corded Electric Dethatcher, and let me tell you, it was quite the experience! As someone who has never used a dethatcher before, I was a little apprehensive at first. But with a lush green lawn in mind, I decided to give it a go. Setting up the dethatcher was surprisingly easy. It came with clear instructions and all the necessary tools, so I was up and running in no time. I plugged it in and eagerly began my lawn care adventure. As I started dethatching, I quickly realized that this was going to be more of a workout than I had anticipated. The machine is lightweight, but it takes some effort to push it through the grass. I found myself huffing and puffing after just a few minutes, but I soldiered on. The stainless steel tines on the dethatcher did an impressive job of pulling up all the dead grass and debris from my lawn. It was actually kind of satisfying to see all the gunk that had been hiding beneath the surface. I felt like a real lawn care pro! But here's where things got a little bit funny. As I was making my way across the yard, I heard a strange noise coming from the machine. It sounded like a high-pitched whine. I stopped and looked down, and to my horror, I realized that the dethatcher had picked up a plastic toy that had been left out in the grass. It was now spinning wildly around in the tines, making a terrible racket. I quickly shut off the machine and carefully removed the toy. It was unharmed, thankfully, but I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of the situation. I never would have thought that a dethatcher could also double as a toy picker-upper! After I removed the toy from the dethatcher, I continued with my lawn care mission. The rest of the process went smoothly, and I was happy with the final result. My lawn looked healthier and more vibrant, with the dead grass and debris removed. One thing that impressed me about the dethatcher was how easy it was to clean up after I was finished. The tines are removable, so I was able to easily wash them off and put them away for next time. The machine itself was easy to wipe down and store in my garage. One thing to note is that this dethatcher is corded, so you'll need to have an outdoor electrical outlet or an extension cord to use it. This wasn't an issue for me since I have an outdoor outlet, but it's something to keep in mind if you're considering purchasing this machine. Another thing to consider is the size of your lawn. The 14" width of the dethatcher is perfect for smaller lawns, but if you have a larger area to cover, it may take you longer to complete the job. However, the lightweight design of the machine makes it easy to maneuver, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. One feature that I particularly appreciated was the adjustable height settings. You can raise or lower the tines to suit the needs of your lawn, which is helpful if you have different types of grass or varying levels of debris. It's a simple but effective feature that made a noticeable difference in the effectiveness of the dethatcher. Review Subject to Change

AFTER READING REVIEW, YOU WILL SEE WHY MY TITLE WAS CHOSE. First unit arrived on time. Installation was simple. I fired it up and used it on a small section of lawn to test out. It did a great job. After dethatching the area, I noticed that the left hinge on the plastic guard broke off from the unit. (See Pic 1). I called Amazon and requested a replacement. After waiting 5 days for the second unit to arrive, I anxiously unboxed it and noticed that it was obviously used. As soon as I opened the box, I could tell it was not packaged like the original unit. Once I took the unit out of the box, my suspicions were confirmed. (See the remaining pix). I have several other pix, but don’t want to bore you to death with them. Rep I spoke to said a replacement could not be sent out. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was able to get another replacement, but no guarantee that it would be new! Also, the second replacement will be the final one, and if not acceptable to me, my money will be refunded. I don’t want a refund, just a NEW working unit. So, I will wait for the replacement to arrive, and alter my review once I see what condition the second replacement is in. If it is new, 5 stars, because it does a good job. If used, 2 stars because I will not have received a new unit which I originally paid for. EDIT 5/3 - Third unit arrived. It is a NEW dethatcher. I have yet to use it since it’s been so rainy, but based upon my review, I see no reason why it would not work as well as my original. Kudos to Amazon for making a long-time customer happy.

Pleasantly surprised at this little workhorse

I have a very large yard and can no longer do the heavy raking of the thatch in the spring. I was sceptical about buying this but thought if I got two years out of it that would be about the same cost as hiring the job out. Starting in the front I was amazed at how well it worked on the first pass, easily pulling a lot of dead grass. For interest sake, after raking that up I did a second pass and it pulled even more. I did the whole yard in about an hour and the machine did not heat up at all. It comes with extra tines, which is appreciated. As noted by others there is a small trick to putting it together, though in reality it goes together easily, and if you are thoughtful you will be plugging it in in about 15 minutes. Now it sits for year, though it is small and doesn’t take up much space. It is light enough to hang on a the wall or from a ceiling. It is one of the purchases I have made recently that allows me to keep doing my own yard work. I give it a 5 star rating, but will adjust if it doesn’t make a second year. Oh and the condition of my lawn has improved significantly as water and fertilizer can now do there job better.

Great Dethacher for your lawn....

Buying this dethatcher is probably one of the best purchases of a lawn equipment I’ve ever had. It works great! Dethatches my lawn in more than half the time if I used a rake. Easy to assemble, easy to use. I went over the lawn ONCE and set the dethacher at the highest level and it dethatched A LOT of dead grass. Imagine if I set it on medium or low! I would recommend this lawn equipment to anyone who wants to purchase a dethacher.

Green lawn returns

My wife struggles every year trying to keep the lawn green and good looking. I cut and trim and she handles over seeding and fertilizing. I watched a promotion of this dethatcher on Youtube and decided that owning was better than renting or having someone charge me $150 to do my yards. We ran this puppy back and forth a couple of times and I was floored by the dead grass that came up. The lawn perked right up and in a couple of weeks we were back to thick and green and the battle of the lawn was finally over....thanks Greenworks.

You won’t regret this purchase!

The media could not be loaded. This thing is a BEAST! The start button and safety bar are cheap and I’m not sure how long they will last but I’ll just bypass it when/if that happens. This tore up and incredible amount of moss and buttercup vine and dead grass. I used the highest setting. Will do another pass in the other direction a setting lower in the spring. AMAZING! You will definitely need a good rake after. I filled a pickup truck from an average sized yard.

Works great! Possible to make it cordless!

I have only used it on it’s highest setting and it’s already cleaning all the dead grass. Like seen on many reviews, you may have to make one more pass than with a heavy gas dethatcher but that’s not an issue especially if you take into account that’s it’s light! If that could be interesting, I use mine with a DeWalt portable power station (DCB1800b) and the corresponding batteries resting on top of it to make it completely cordless! It makes the dethatcher go a little deeper + no hassle with the cable.
