For pipe locating it was way easier to use than a stud finder
I needed to drill a bunch of anchors in a cement wall and I knew there were water pipes somewhere behind it. A different fancy stud finder I used was not inspiring confidence in readings and repeatability so I bought this. This tool allows you to easily zero in on metal. Easy to use. Keep button pressed and move the tip around on the wall until it beeps. While still holding the detector against the wall where it beeped, release the button and press it again (and hold pressed). This calibrates the detector for that location to make it less sensitive. Now move around that same area again until it beeps again. Repeat the "calibration". By making it less and less sensitive, you need to get closer and closer to the metal for it to beep. After doing this several times, the area you move in to make it beep becomes real small which means you've pinpointed your metal. If it no longer beeps when moving around, you might have done the calibration one too many times and set it to be too insensitive to detect your metal. Just move somewhere about an inch or two farther away (but still touching the wall) from the last beep location and hold button and repeat the scan process. A little practice and it should become clearer.

Found studs and nails behide bathroom tile!
I needed to install grab bars in a bath tub. This metal scanner located studs and nails behind a tile wall. The results were reproducible and reliable; whereas the results from a traditional stud finder were not. Took a few tries to find a good place on the wall to calibrate the instrument each time I did a sweep. Once I did, it went pretty quick. Used a dry erase pen to mark the edges of the studs and then mark nail heads. My friend who drilled the pilot holes was impressed. Nailed those studs! Worth every penny.

Finally a stud finder that works through plaster and lath!
Best stud finder I've bought that works in our old house plaster and lath.

It works!
I have rock lath walls and this was absolutely necessary to hang a TV and was able to read thru plaster, cement and wood lath.

Useful
I had a small job to do hanging trim in a 100+ year old house and confirmed with client it was lath and plaster. Not willing to dive into a wallabot I got this and it was exactly what I needed. Another person at the house doing a different job happened to have a wallabot and this performed as well as that in a side by side. Great value for the price even if I never use it again. This is a metal detector for ferrous and non ferrous metals so I see it can be useful in other applications as well.

Must have for lath ad plaster walls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok, just took out of package to test on lath and plaster walls. Our house is 102 years old, with lath and plaster walls. This stud finder worked immediately finding studs in lath and plaster!!! I doubled checked a bedroom wall to find stud that I could not find with any other stud finder. I found the studs previously using the ducts and outlet, then I still had to do the "hunt and peck" method, and the "tapping" hammer method, then use a tape measure to find 16" on center. Still had trouble finding stud centers. I just used this Zircon Metalliscanner, and boom, it found the studs immediately!!!! Holy smokes!!! this scanner worked the first time!!! Ok, so you might be thinking, well that was lucky. That's what I thought. So, I took the Metalliscanner, to room I already remodeled to check and see if it found the studs. Wham, immediately found 16" on center in through lath and plaster. How did I not know about this scanner before. It would have saved me lots of time and headache. Do you self a favor and buy 1 if you have lath and plaster walls/ ceilings. I'm buying another one, just to have incase my brother-in-law steals this one!! I cannot say enough about this scanner.

A simple BRILLIANT tool.
The media could not be loaded. Sometimes, (often) I miss the obvious. Living in an older home in the Mid-west, my walls are covered in plaster, the wall studs are not exactly 16" on center, and the insulation is blown in. During a remodel, I remove the plaster with a hammer, leave the wood slats, top off the insulation and cover with 5/8ths sheet rock (5/8ths for flat strong walls) locating the studs can be a real pain, the hassle of marking the stud on the ceiling and floor, hoping the studs are straight, is no longer an issue. The Zircon MetalliScanner finds the nails that hold the slats to the wall, (nails on every stud) accurately and quickly. It has no problem spotting through the 5/8ths gypsum board, (sheet rock) or the plaster. If you need to find the studs in a plaster covered wall, this is the tool to have! I Highly recommend it!

Works well but …….
Seems to detect metal well. My gripe is that the battery compartment lid is EXTREMELY difficult to remove, so much so I wonder how long before it breaks. Spoils the product.

útil para ubicar cualquier interferencia metálica al agujerar el muro
Me ha servido para localizar varillas en muro, por si agujeras un castillo y no vaya a interferir al hacer algún agujero para cortinas u alguna otra cosa.

No cumplió mis espectativas
No me agrada que no distingue material ferroso de no ferroso y por ello perduré muro en donde supuestamente registro y eran clavos y yo lo necesitaba para detectar tubería de cobre.

Stopped working
The product stopped working after about 6 weeks - based on my experience I wouldn’t recommend it.
