For Georgia clay
A monster of a trowel. This isn’t for putting petunias in a planter. This is a serious digging tool. I could dig a ditch with this, it’s so tough!

My go to garden tool
Works great for getting weeds with long taproots. This is perfect for planting 4 inch plants in my garden. Useful for adding potting soil into containers around plants. Able to dig under new grass shoots and get their roots and shake out soil. Super strong. I've broken several spades. Great for breaking up clumps and back filling.

Amazing quality tool that is a joy to use
My wife has been into indoor and outdoor gardening for a few years now and has gone through many cheap aluminum trowels in that time. I decided to make her a small kit of quality tools that will hopefully last a lifetime and this trowel was a perfect addition to the kit. It is a great quality tool made of solid stainless steel and feels like it will last a lifetime. After lots of research I decided to go with it because 1: it is one solid piece of stainless steel so it is strong and corrosion resistant 2: the handle is made out of plastic, not wood so you don't have to worry about it rotting away and 3: it is made in America. It fit perfectly in a Toyo/Trusco Y350.

You wanna dig a good ol fashioned hole in the dirt? This tool is for you!
Aesthetics? PISHAW! This trowel is serious business and eschews aesthetics. It's a thickish sheet of aluminum, balled up into a handle on one end and sharpened to a shiv point on the other. On top of this balled up handle is thrust a wheelchair handlebar grip in bright, you can't possibly lose this thing in the weeds, red. The benefits of this wheelchair grip are that it's real grippy! I can flail my little muddy arms all over the place, but this trowel isn't going to slip out of my hand unless I'm trying to throw it at a beaver or whatever little ground creatures keep eating my plant roots. I can then hose this mofo off and it looks brand freaking new! BAM! Let's talk about my soil. What I have here appears to be thick clay mixed liberally with gravel and spaced between large awkward boulders that are always where you want your hole to be. 90% of the time I need a hole, I thrust the trowel in the ground, and THUNK it hits a rock, over and over. Most trowels do not care for this type of behavior and either just simply won't cut through the soil to begin with, won't continue after a couple inches, and are distracted from their duty by the presence of any rock or pebble, diverting it off course, or most likely just preventing me from digging anymore. Sometimes they just break into pieces. This wilcox trowel slices through my dirt like it's butter! It does a great job of making a hole exactly the size of the trowel. The trowel does precisely what it is supposed to do. What it does not do that I hoped it would do is pull that same dirt out of the hole I made. This is due to the long length of the tool and the V point at the tip, it does not act in my soil like a scoop to remove the dirt from the hole. My clay soil will not allow for any forgiveness in the size of the hole you dug for soil removal. I purchased a DeWit victorian trowel to do this task. Ultimately, the Wilcox trowel is the correct tool for the job if I want to dig a quick hole or remove roots or a plant, for instance removing blackberry brambles in the forest, or trying to uncover irritation tubing, but I'll probably reach for a tool with a bit more finesse and scooped shaping for planting new plants and tucking soil around them, and in my softer raised bed soil. A pro of the wheelchair grip handle is that it's eminently replaceable-for minimal cost- and can be done by anyone without the need of specialty tools or a woodworking shop. A con is that it's hollow and gets stuffed with dirt which is super obnoxious to remove (again. clay soil). The muddier my soil is, the bigger the problem is. As for cleaning the tool, aside from the hollow handle, I've been using a sturdy nylon brush to brush the dirt off the blade, but I am not sure what I could do to damage it. It's a piece of sheet metal, after all, and in the grand scheme of things, it'll probably outlast me. I could oil it with boiled linseed like I do my DeWit tools, but I'm thinking it's totally unnecessary. I did need to file the edges next to the handle. They're sharp from the manufacturer. I have a ten year old that likes to help dig, and I didn't want the sharp edges to cut his fingers. This took maybe a minute or two but was worth my time for peace of mind. I am a small person and have no issue with the weight or handfeel of the tool, the full length handle creates a balanced tool and I didn't experience any discomfort during prolonged gardening tasks. It's not my only trowel and won't replace the others, but I'm glad to have it as part of my gardening tool team.

Very Good
I have a countless number of cheaply made cheap trowels. I use them for years without any problem. The very cheap ones broke all the times. I just need to be aware of their limit. I recently broke a cheap one by my fault. I asked too much of it and ripped it apart. I have a good well-made one that I want to buy but they don't sell that one anymore. So, I bought this 11-inch Wilcox 251S. The reason to buy the 251S is that it looks as long in length as the one I am using and Amazon is having a sale for couple bucks less. The 251S is a little bit thicker than the one I am using. Maybe 1/3 to 1/2 thicker It is not as wide but it is good enough. The 251S front edge is very sharp. I can cut through whatever in the ground. The tip is very sharp and pointy. So be careful handling it. The 251S has some markings on the spade. You can use it to measure whatever. I find it not at useful because the markings are hard to read. The 251S is straight and I can hold it very well. The grip is good. The hole maybe a problem. I get a lot of dirt and water in there. I think I will stuff some newspaper into the hole. The problem with the 251S is that it is straight. I can poke and stab no problem. I am having problem scoping and digging with the 251S because it is straight. I always hit the back of my hand to the dirt while I am digging. I don't have any problem with my regular trowel because the handle is at an angle. The packaging is very bad. There is no packaging to protect the sharp blade. Amazon just put it inside the shipping box as-is. It is slicing and dicing whatever you are buying together inside the Amazon shipping box. I have some pictures. The one on top is the very cheap one. It uses spot weld to hold the spade and handle together. I ripped the weld apart. The middle one is the one I use the most. I use it very rough. I left it outside in the dirt and under the sun all the time. The spade and the handle are all bent. I have to hammer them back straight and use a hose clamp to keep the handle intact. It uses rivets to hold the spade and handle together. This one is cheap and tough. The last one is the 251S. It is one piece. Nothing to break. I just got it for couple days. I don't know how long it will take to rust it out or melt the plastic handle. I will give this 4 stars because the ergonomic is not that good. It is too straight.

SHTF/Heirloom Quality
This product caught my attention because was featured in several articles about ultra durable garden trowels. The price seemed a bit high for a little trowel but I could not find anything else that would meet my needs. Specifically, I was looking for a full tang shovel or trowel that could fit in my backpack, that could be used for gardening, and also for any other digging. Most importantly, I was looking for a tool that I could expect to last for at least a few years of hard use. It arrived today, and although I haven't had a chance to use it, I'm impressed. I've only owned a few trowels in my life but this one certainly seems like it is in a class of its own. I fully expect it to live up to my expectations.

This trowel is awesome!
What a great trowel!! I hate it when they bend, and although I never thought I’d spend $30 on a trowel, after wasting so much money on useless ones, I figured it was better to invest in a good one. Am I ever glad I did! Our soil is very clay-based, and can get quite hard. No problem for this trowel. Would recommend to even a hobby gardener (like me) if you want a good tool to last.

Great build quality, nice to use.
Full tang and great build quality. This thing is a little pricey but it will last forever. It's a bit long when you're just making small holes for flowers, but the length really nice when you need to scoop dirt out of a bag or need to make a hole for a something a little bigger without fetching a full-length shovel.
