Cute little fan, and powerful while still being fairly quiet
I have a 1920s inspired office and in an effort to find items that match the aesthetic (like a typewriter keyboard, leather mouse pad, etc) I came across this little fan. Well, I saw one at a friend's house and loved the style (but not the price...). Lo' and behold, they have a small desk size one! My room doesn't have a fan and I needed some airflow now that it's getting warmer out. Cue Vornado to the rescue. It fits my aesthetic, though it's not white white (it's off white, like it'd been aged) and it works wonderfully. It provides a nice amount of white noise on low, it's very well built, and compared to my old Holmes fan, this, erm, blows. I actually had to turn it away from me because it was too powerful. Other upside is since it's a mechanical switch I can use it with a Smartplug. Now when I tell my device of choice to turn everything on, the fan turns on as well. Of off when I'm done for the day.

The second one was great!
The first one I ordered looked great. It ran great... for almost 5 minutes. Then it died. I returned it for a new one. The second works great, and has continued to work. It looks and feels very well made, but I am skeptical after the first one that also looked and felt well made. The noise level is high enough to be good white noise while sleeping. It moves a good amount of air for how small it is. I use it for bed side, but it would also be good for a desk. I love the look of it. 4 stars because I had to return the first one.

Perfect little fan
Finally somebody started making decent fans again, instead of cheap plastic throwaways

Strong for a smaller fan
I bought two of these for my and my husband’s bedside tables; we both need the sound and air flow of a fan to be able to sleep. These do the trick just fine! Surprising amount of power for such a small fan and the higher setting provides just enough white noise for us. Also love the vintage look!

A surprisingly substantial retro-style fan
A cute, retro fan with a nice weight that makes it seem (for now) like a higher quality fan than the litany I've purchased over the years in my quest to find the right fan for my desk. Things to know: The color is more pea green (accurately uglier) than it is blue-green or aqua as pictured. Though it's mentioned in the description, it's easy to miss that this fan only has TWO SPEEDS. You may be surprised to find that your options are high wind or slightly less high wind (which is a compliment given its size). Just don't buy this fan thinking you'll get a gentle breeze across your desk. If you intend to use it near stacks of paper, invest in a small paperweight. To be clear, the wind is strong for the fan's size - but it's not gale force. Still, strong enough to dry out your eyes. I wouldn't say it is a noisy fan but it is not whisper quiet, either. Those looking for white noise will be quite happy with the sound. It has a surprisingly small footprint compared to what one might think. It's a lot of fan for the space it occupies. ???? Thankfully it plugs into the wall like a normal appliance, no more stupid USB connectors to wear out or come loose. That's reason enough for the purchase! I wanted a small desktop fan that wasn't too weak and made of total junk. This fits the bill and looks good doing it. Except for the slight color discrepancy I'm very happy with the purchase; a nice feeling because it doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

Second one worked...
The first one I ordered did not work. TLDR: There's a manufacturing, assembly, packing, or shipping problem which causes the fan blade on these models to stick enough that the motor is unable to start the blade; this resolved for me by removing the grille (while unplugged) and giving the blade a twirl). TLDR2: Vornado says, "sturdy metal construction" ... but note the blade itself is plastic, not metal. Read further for the whole story. As soon as I received it, I unpacked it, read the instructions, plugged it in, and turned it on ... the fan greeted me with an electrical humming noise, but the fan blades did not move. To be sure the outlet was functional, I plugged a portable air cleaner in, which worked correctly. Tried a different outlet, same behavior -- just an electrical hum. Checked the fuse built into the plug; it was seated correctly. The fan's behavior was the same no matter whether I turned the control to low or high -- hum and no blade motion. Calling Vornado got me a record led message that their office was closed until the next morning. Fortunately, Amazon made it easy to return what appeared to be a defective fan and exchange for a new one. When the new fan arrived, I unpacked it right away, plugged it in, and turned it on ... to be greeted by the same electrical hum and lack of fan blade motion as the first fan. Remembering the instructions' warning about US/North American 120V power only, I broke out the electrical meter and checked the outlet ... it was delivering a cool 120.5 volts of AC power, right on the mark. I verified that the fan was passing power by noting the resistance on my meter with a probe on each prong of the plug ... zero when the fan was off, some resistance when turned on. What the heck? Two lemons?! I knew it was fruitless to call Vornado, because this was a Saturday and their office was closed. So, on a whim, I followed the instructions to remove the grille for cleaning (UNPLUG FIRST!) so I could look more closely at the front side of the motor. To my surprise, when I gave the fan blade (aside: plastic? the blade is plastic?) a twirl, it didn't move at first ... it was stuck against something. Either the blade reseated itself or the something gave way, because the second twirl caused the blade to spin. Again: What the heck?! I reassembled the grille, plugged the fan in, and it worked correctly, on both high and low speeds. Assessment: - There's a manufacturing, assembly, packing, or shipping problem which causes the fan blade on these models to stick enough that the motor is unable to start the blade. It happened twice to me. Anyone comfortable following the instructions to remove the grille for cleaning can do so and give the blade a twirl to help it remember what it should do. That's a poor customer experience, and Vornado probably should fix that. Pro: - Small size. This is definitely a tabletop fan for moving air in small areas, not for large rooms. - Low speed is pretty quiet (about the same loudness as a fridge, quieter than a microwave oven). - Manual control knob works well with remote-control outlets. - Easy to disassemble for cleaning. - Retro look is nicer than the usual Vornado plastic. Ice white color scheme is nicely muted. Con: - The absurd defect mentioned above. - High speed is pretty darn loud. - Unexpected plastic blade. - The "modern" crossover base with rubber feet is subject to wobbling if it's not formed quite right; at this price point, it's suboptimal, but unsurprising, and can be mitigated the same way you might keep a chair or whatnot from wobbling (the metal base is too thick and stiff to bend without tools and possible damage).

Perfect fan for bedroom
was concerned that this mini 2 speed fan wouldn't meet my needs. ... but was surprised , even at the low , it created air circulation/cool breeze that made it comfortable to sleep . fan is 6 feet away from my bed. it wasn't loud at all.... in fact ...it created a nice , soothing sound --to help me fall asleep... if your looking for a fan for a small room ...to add air circulation......this mini fan will do the job. it's compact...yet powerful enough to do the job. this mini made such a good impression ...i'm going to buy the Medium VFAN, 3 speed for my entire condominium space.

Terrible
Had to return 2 of these now. The first worked for around 15 minutes before dying and the second one didn't work at all. Yes they look nice but a lack of reliability lets these down badly.

Great White Noise for sleep!
I purchased this sweet little fan for White Noise when sleeping. I had seen another purchaser's review of this for the same intended purpose. I have to say it works splendid indeed! On the LOW speed setting it's the perfect pitch to fall asleep to. If there;s a party on next door, I just turn it on high which is slightly on the loud side and more than enough to drown out the crowd! Air flow is surprisingly strong on the high setting given the size of the fan. I am a gas turbine engine technician and therefore truly appreciate it's contoured airflow design throughout. It's a rather "retro/modern" design...truly a piece of art as well as functionality! Highly recommend! Great value for the money and also MADE OF METAL!! In the day and age of plastics, I adore this little puppy!

Beautiful, no plastic, cools me
I am so happy with this little fan! I currently work from home where I have no AC. I debated between buying something cheap and effective but made of plastic, or buying this more expensive but all metal and beautiful fan. I do not regret my choice! It enhances the decor rather than being a 'necessary evil'. And it works great even if it is quite small. There are two fan settings, and most days I put it at the lowest level which is completely silent and enough to cool me off from close by. The highest level makes a small buzzing noise but it doesn't bother me at all. Overall it feels like great quality that should last a long time.
