High setting decent. Could use a Medium setting.

Before I bought this Vicks warm mist humidifier, I was using a Honeywell evaporative humidifier. This Vicks humidifier is definitely better than the Honeywell evaporative one. And ages ago, I used a small ultrasonic cool mist humidifier. But I quit using the ultrasonic one because despite only holding 300 ml of water it left way too much white dust everywhere. The Vicks warm mist humidifier holds one gallon of water just like the Honeywell evaporative humidifier did, but the overall unit seems around 1/5 the size which is really nice. I feel that the Vicks warm mist humidifier goes through water a lot slower than the Honeywell evaporative humidifier so that's another great bonus. It means that I don't have to fill the water tank as often. With the Honeywell evaporative humidifier, I had to take off the lid of the entire unit and carry a dripping filter to the sink with the water tank because the filter dried out so quickly. Even when I wet the filter five times a day, it was still dry. The filter became brittle and permanently damaged and it costs $10 per filter. Imagine having to replace the filter four times a month. The Honeywell water tank wasn't as easy or fun to carry and fill as the Vicks water tank it. The Honeywell evaporative humidifier worked at first, but after 10 days it became useless and wouldn't even increase the humidity 1%. The Vicks warm mist humidifier, on high setting, seems to increase the humidity of my room by 7%, but it takes a really long time to get there. So on average it probably only increases the humidity of the room by 4%? On low setting, the Vicks warm mist humidifier can increase my room humidity by 2-3%. I am not sure. I think that the longer it runs without opening window, the more humidity builds up. The great thing is that I can leave it running 9 hours on low setting and it won't even use half a tank. That's why I wish that there was a medium setting sometimes. The Vicks warm mist humidifier does create white dust on my furniture. I'm not sure how much white dust it creates compared to the ultrasonic cool mist humidifiers because it has been so long since I used the ultrasonic one, but my guess is that it creates less white dust. Not that much to worry about. Why? Well, for starters, the ultrasonic humidifier only held 300 ml of water instead of one gallon and it seemed to have created so much white dust that everything was white. But also, consider this. Minerals are what causes the white dust, right? Well, in the warm mist humidifier, a lot of the minerals never leave the humidifier and instead cake up on the warming unit and cooling chamber. So that means less minerals being deposited on furniture than ultrasonic humidifiers, since some minerals are left inside the humidifier. The essential oils tray is nice. I can smell the oils around three feet away. I haven't tested it to see if I can smell it further away. Cleaning the Vicks warm mist humidifier is actually easy. The caked up minerals fall of easily. I was able to get the caked on minerals that were stuck on the warming unit off in only a couple of minutes instead of the recommended 20 minute vinegar soak. The Vicks warm mist humidifier has a really long cord which is nice. So, to sum it up... The Vicks warm mist humidifier provides a decent amount of humidity. The smaller the room, the more impact it might have. It doesn't require a filter. It's easy to refill. You don't have to fill the water tank up as often as the Honeywell evaporative humidifier I used. It's easy to clean. It creates white dust, but possibly 50% or more less than ultrasonic humidifiers.

Good capacity, no mineral film produced

WARM VS COLD MIST: I have tried cold and warm mist humidifiers, and I will only get warm mist humidifiers because they do not produce the fine, white, gritty mist that cold humidifiers do. Sure, if you use distilled water, then the white mist is not an issue, but I balk at the cost of buying and physical inconvenience of lugging numerous gallons of distilled water from the store on a regular basis, as I go through a gallon of water a day with humidifiers on the low setting. EFFECTIVENESS: With this current and previous humidifiers, I have yet to find one that significantly increases the humidity level in my 200 sq ft bedroom in the winter, as the humidity level increases by just 2-5 percentage points. I probably need multiple humidifiers running simultaneously at the highest levels, but the maintenance would be too much trouble, so I just deal with subpar humidity. DURABILITY: I have had this humidifier for 4 months, and it still works without issues, though I am meticulous about maintenance. My previous warm mist humidifier lasted about 8 years, likely because of this. Whenever I need to refill the tank, I empty any water left in the bottom of the unit and rinse out mineral deposits. I am sure this prevents the orange build-up some people see who do not do this. With my fingers, I rub off as much mineral deposit as I can from the heating element (after it has cooled) and the funnel covering the heating element. I have noticed the more mineral deposits on the heating element, the louder the humidifier is, so after about every 3-4 tank changes, there is enough build-up that the humidifier becomes a bit loud, so I pour enough distilled vinegar into the unit to cover the heating element and then put the funnel covering in place. After several hours, the deposits are gone. These steps may sound cumbersome, but they really take about 5 minutes. (However, as I mentioned above, I likely need multiple humidifiers running on the high setting, and that 5 minutes of maintenance for each humidifier several times a day would add up.) For me, it's worth not dealing with a gritty mist all over my floors and furniture and not lugging gallons of distilled water from the store.

Cleaning is tedious

This is the first humidifier I've purchased and I'm happy with it! It's pretty quiet, emits lots of steam quickly, and you can truly run it for as long as it states without it running out of juice. That being said, the care instructions state you should be cleaning it every week and the process of doing so is rather involved. Taking apart each piece and using multiple cleaners and soft toothbrushes and taking time to soak every piece is something I know I can't always do during the week which worries me as to how long it'll be able to last in the long run. It also does take up a bit more space than I'd hoped, but it's not too terribly bulky.

This is the best warm mist humidifier

The Vicks V745A (V745WB on the box) is simply the best. I purchased so many warm mist humidifiers and this one is the best. One still needs to clean it periodically but it is mush easier to clean because heating element is part of the bottom piece. Easy to use and the noise level is what you would expect from such a product. The quality and manufacturing is much superior to similar products purchased in the past.

Good..

Humidifier part works as described. Water does last long even on highest. The vicks doesnt seem to desolve at all and the smell isnt strong enough and by the end of the day i have to remove it with a tissue. But overall its a great humidifier
