Does what other tools can't
Had the Craftsman 10" chainsaw and the pruner. This tool spans the gap. A larger "log" is stiff enough the chainsaw can "bite down" on. Stuff smaller than your thumb the pruner works great. In between shrubs get too thick for the pruner and are flexible enough that the chainsaw is ineffective (bounces off). This tool fills that gap by capturing the branch with the scissor design. That said, the design has some flaws. I was able to get the bar oil in with the provided cheap bottle. Don't have a lot of faith in it holding up for long as it developed dents that wouldn't push back after the first use. The oil reservoir requires 'injecting" the oil. There's no screw on cap and the cover snaps down. There is no way to see how much (if any) is in the reservoir. Instead of a cap it has the cover and a rubber seal with a cut cross. Not only can't you see the oil level it leaks out of everywhere. The other design issue is the holder/backup bar doesn't always align right with the chainsaw blade so you have to make multiple cuts. And the balance on the tool makes it seem really heavy. One thing they got right was orienting the battery insertion so that you can see the battery charge level easily (an issue with many of the other Craftsman designs). Works and I'm glad I bought it but there's definitely things that could be better. If you're not tied to the Craftsman 20V battery you might want to look elsewhere for a similar tool.

Performs a needed fuction very well.
This little chain saw does a great job doing what no other tool in my arsenal does as well. I do a lot of tree and bush trimming every fall on our 1-1/4 acre lot. We live in AZ with an assortment of native bushes and trees with stiff, sometimes thorned branches. We load them in a utility trailer to take to the dump and want to compact them as much as possible. Although other chain saws like a pole saw accomplish the major branch trimming this little saw enables us to cut the crooks off the branches before loading them into the trailer which allows them to be lined up much better. Now we get more than twice the number of branches in each load saving trips and dump fees. The saw is lightweight and easy to use GENTLY. Light pressure to allow the chain to cut is the key as it is a small lightly powered chain saw. Doing this allows it to cut nicely with a sharp chain. The clamping action of the gripper jaw against the chain provides a slip-free cut (I really like ! ) that keeps the branch from jumping around like a regular unsupported chain saw does. The oiler is not really not a metered chain oiler. It's just a hole to squirt oil on the chain. The supplied oil bottle is useless. It leaks. Get a small squirt bottle with a twist top that doesn't leak (I used a bottle that "wood sweller" (for loose chair leg joints) that I'd used up.) and give the chain a small squirt just before using it and when you no longer see any oil left on the chain during use. For me that was only twice on a trailer load of small branch crook-trimming ,using a bigger saw for anything over an inch or so. The battery last MUCH longer than expected. I never used the second battery on a single trailer load and never used more than half the battery indicated by the lights on the battery when pressing the battery button - a nice addition. Overall it was a good purchase with no major drawbacks including the manufacturer's choice of oiling hole I found in hindsight, for my uses, not to be a problem. I tool away one star for the stupidly-useless oil bottle that even the addition of an o-ring wouldn't fix.

great product
I can truly say I like this product, easy to use, not to heavy. and user friendly the battery last a pretty long time with one charge. I have used it for many cuts, and many sized of branches or trees, so far so good easy to handle for a woman and don't feel that I will get cut. Would recommend to any female that likes to do yard work and cuts tree branches.

AMAZING hand tool!
I bought this saw for my wife to trim our trees as well as work up the smaller wood and branches. She's proficient with a chain saw but it was not as easy to use on the smaller stuff. This Craftsman "alligator" saw is amazing and easy to use! It's also safe because you have to use both hands to engage the saw so one's hands are out of the way. We bought two extra batteries thinking we would outwork the the batteries. Nope! The batteries last really well, cut after cut after cut! Your hands might get tired from squeezing the two handles before the batteries need to be changed. We put oil in the blade oiler every time we change a battery, and many time more frequently, depending on how hard we we using the saw. The little bottle is NOT quality; it leaks oil all over the place. I read another reviewer who just manually oils the chain with an oil can. We may have to go to that. This was a bit heavy for my wife at first until she built up her arm and shoulder strength. She 's only 5'6", so not a huge woman; she also used elbow supports/pads because for the first few times, her elbows really ached. Now that she uses it more regularly, slowly working down our brush piles, she does fine. She has not had the chain jump off the blade but it has gotten loose on her. A battery operated saw is not nearly as loud as a regular chainsaw so there's less annoyance for the neighbors. Yes, with the extra batteries, this was a $200 purchase, which admittedly was a bit steep. However, it was more than worth it! This is a GREAT piece of equipment! 5 stars!!!

Buena, pero no la recomendaría
Llevo aproximadamente un año usando la Lopper y hasta ahorita no he tenido inconvenientes con el motor o el funcionamiento del mismo y eso que le he dado un uso bastante intenso a diario. Los unicos inconvenientes que he tenido con el producto son el botecito con el que se añade aceite, el cual se le chorrea bastante si llegase a caerse o quedar acostado. El otro problema es que el compartimiento de aceite de la Lopper es tan reducido que apenas con unas gotas de aceite y ya se llena. Y esto es molesto cuando le das un uso modesto porque cada 5 minutos tienes que estar añadiendo mas aceite y asi, y ni siquiera alcanza a lubricar toda la cadena. Creo que el concepto esta perfecto, aunque es pesada para que mi madre la use continuamente. Y la capacidad del aceite se podia mejorar. No la recomendaria, desafortunadamente, ya que por el precio esperarias que este tipo de fallas en el diseño fuesen previstos, pero supongo lo guardan para algun producto nuevo en el futuro. Y como consejo, consigan una bateria de al menos 4ah, porque la incluida, la de 2ah, es un chiste y pierde una considerable potencia a los 10 minutos. Yo la uso con una de 6ah y va perfecto, junto a una de 4ah. Si pudiera costearme la de 9ah, la compraria sin dudar!

A good, safe and hard-working product.
This Craftsman cordless lopper is a good product that works well for trimming, especially in confined spaces where a chainsaw might be dangerous to use (this is because the lopper's chain is shielded). However, compared to an electric chainsaw, and especially compared to a manual lopper, it is a bit heavy and somewhat awkward to carry. That said, I have not used my manual loppers since I purchased this product. Once you get it in place, it works very well, very quickly, and the battery lasts a remarkably long time, even with heavy use. I have read some reviewers complain about the chain coming off, but I have not had that problem yet despite using the lopper extensively and for some heavy jobs. In general, I would recommend this lopper for anyone who wants a safer alternative to a chainsaw for cutting branches up to about 4 inches in diameter.

quiet branch cutter
It is great for limbing trees and cutting branches. It can handle bucking up to 4 inch wide logs. The battery allows you to go everywhere. The battery is not super powerful, but lasts for awhile - I used the same battery as their. I bought the plug-in version previously, but the battery is more convenient to use than having an extension cord. It is not good for felling even small trees - you need another chainsaw for that. Overall, it is great - making cutting branches super easy after a storm.

Love it!
I love this machine, having to cut the lower branches of dozens of trees. I saw this and thought it would be a much safer option than a regular chain saw. Does the job very well. So far very happy with my purchase.
