If your going to use Trex hidden fasteners: get this device

The hidden fastener installation tool will keep your hands away from the action when your screwing potentially hundreds of screws; one slip is all it takes. The feature that I like in particular is that it loads quickly and puts the fastener exactly where it needs to be. You have the ability to bear down to help straighten wavy boards, and it has a small cup on the top to help you put the screw bit directly on the small head of the hidden screw. The cost of this tool is next to nothing compared to the overall cost of Trex these days.

Tool significantly cuts trex installation time.

I was skeptical when deciding to purchase this tool. However, after using it to install 440 sq ft of trex deck, it exceeded my expectations. It sets the fasteners at the correct angle so the next row of boards can be easily installed, the handle provides leverage to tightened the trex against the previously installed clip, and (probably the best feature) the funnel centers the drive bit directly onto the fastener head every time. This tool is a significant time saver.

This is NECESSARY per my husband! He said this tool is a must have and made replacing our decking with Trex so much easier!

Simplifies fastener install

This tool works great in placing fastener correctly. Evenly spacing and firmly holding in place allowing ease to screw in.

Stops the drops.

This device does really help with installation. It keeps the clip in place on the joist and helps prevent dropping it several feet to the ground below. Helps line the screw up nicely for the drill and helps push the deck boards together.

OK, but ended up being un-necessary

This does exactly what it is supposed to do, but I found a different way that worked for me. When you slide a mating Trex board, it can be a hassle to get all of the fasteners to line up on the new board even if you leave them loose. Wood screw clamps and wedges worked great to get everything lined up and held in place. Once I started using these on a couple of joists per board, there is no need for this tool to help press and hold a board in place. Using it to hold the fastener and help align the driver bit is minimal. I've had my screw clamps for years and they are great. I am happy with the Jorgensen, but I expect some of the knock offs would work fine. If you don't have them, you'll end up with a couple of clamps you can use later versus a tool you'll rarely if ever use again.

Helps keep the bit away from your fingers ...

This tool is useful but expensive for what it is in my opinion. Plastic - comes with one bit designed to work with the tool. Works well. Allows you to push up the board - but if you have boards that are bent a bit, you will need something more substantial to push them together (like the Camo tool or just using some clamps like I did). Would buy again I think - even though my deck project is only 200 sqft.

I wouldn’t want to do Trex without it!

This little tool really speeds up the time it takes to lay down Trex deck boards. I’ve tried other methods but nothing beats this little guy. My only complaint is that after awhile the little screw guide started popping off. I thought about gluing it on but not sure if anything could bind with this glass impregnated - nylon material (which is the same thing the fasteners are made of). Maybe buy two for a really big job.
