DRILL ON, DRILL ON
This is my first hammer drill and the build quality and feel of the drill leads me to believe it will be the only hammer drill I ever have to buy. I have several Makita tools from cordless drills and sanders and this drill comes through again. I have used it several days while rebuilding a back porch that the carpenter bees totally destroyed. Made several 1/2 inch holes in block and three 5/8 inch holes by 7 inches deep in solid concrete to anchor 6x6 post brackets to footings for the porch posts. All these were drilled without a hitch. Drilled the 5/8 inch holes with the gear box in low as recommended by the owners manual. By the way the two speed gear box is housed in a metal case and is well worth the money in my opinion. All in all an outstanding drill. If I had it to do over I would buy this drill again.

A terrific tool
I like how rugged and well built it feels in the hand it is a heavy unit but I am going to buy another one. because it feels so well built. And it is made in Japan.

This will last a long time.
This is a great drill. Well made, strong and I expect it will last a long time. I've always been impressed with Makita tools. Whether cordless or mains powered, they last longer and work better than most other brands. Do you pay more just for the brand name? Probably yes but I'm okay with that. Its a better tool than similar drills by other manufacturers.

Ok drill, but lacking in power for more demanding applications
Purchased this drill with the intention of using it to mix small batches of mortar (5gal buckets) While it does work, it strains and gives off a burning smell when mixing a full bucket. I purchased theMilwaukee 5380-21 1/2-Inch 9-AMP Heavy Duty Hammer Drill a couple of weeks after this one, I am much more impressed with the milwaukee, it delivers the goods without the apparent strain on the motor that the makita displays. As a contractor intending on using this just about every day for mixing buckets of mortar, I couldn't see it lasting very long. Have since sold the makita and will keep the milwaukee. I would think that this drill would be more than adequate for home and light commercial use, however, for heavy duty use and at a cheaper price to boot, the milwaukee wins hands down!

it is a good drill however i have bought it because it said it is 220V however the one i got was 110V so keep that in mind if your want to buy it. my country uses 220V only.

Not 3/4-inch chuck!
This is a 1/2-inch drill, not a 3/4" drill. Might be a fine product, but it's not advertised accurately.

L'ultimo trapano al mondo costruito per durare
Se cercata un trapano che vi segua per il resto della vostra vita, questo è l'ultimo sul mercato che possa rendervi felici. E' un po' pesante rispetto alla media di oggi, ma il peso è direttamente proporzionale alla qualità. Tutto costruito in Giappone (gli altri modelli Makita sono tutti made in China), da un senso di robustezza anche solo a prenderlo in mano. La potenza è eccellente e non si scalda nemmeno mettendolo sotto torchio. Monta il classico mandrino con chiave, garanzia di robustezza e durata. Insomma, per l'hobbista e il professionista questo può essere il trapano definitivo.
