Great replacement thermostat
The media could not be loaded. Only gave 4 stars because for some reason my led light is not working. Other than that it’s perfect.

I looked into smart thermostats and decided I didn't really need the whole wi-fi Internet thing (Nest, Ecobee, etc). This thermostat has lots of nice features. Large display (lighted), which makes it easy on my middle aged eyes. Can run on battery only if you only have four wires (no common). It seems to keep the temperature more constant than our old programmable Honeywell did. It has an automatic changeover feature that I haven't tried yet, which allows you to set temps for when the furnace or A/C should kick in. You don't have to switch from "Heat" to "Cool"; it does it for you. One of the reasons I chose this is I thought I might use it in the home of a senior friend who keeps setting his thermostat for crazy configurations. It has a keypad lockout so that even when buttons are pressed, the settings don't change. It's a useful feature, but isn't quite as elegantly designed as I'd hoped it would be. The instructions were a bit confusing, but Emerson's customer service is top-notch. Whenever I called I got through and was able to talk to a knowledgeable person who could answer my questions. My HVAC company uses Emerson/White-Rodgers thermostats a lot.

Good enough
If 'C' wire is not available to your thermostat, then you can't install smart thermostat. Then, this one could be the most appropriate product available. It has a big screen, and conveniently shows the set temperature, and current temperature. It is also programmable. I scored 4, as it is rather expensive. It has the price of a typical smart thermostat.

Runaway thermostat.
I had an old White Rodgers thermostat in my house for almost 15 years that worked fine, was easy to program, quite reliable. So when it died, I wanted to get another White Rodgers... only they are now Emerson. I bought this 1F5-0671. First problem was that after I installed this item, the temperature reading was 2 degrees off. Might not sound like much, but it was noticeable. Second problem was that this item is not easy to program at all, not user friendly, not intuitive. Significantly more difficult to program than my old White Rodgers design. Still, this one worked fine for about 3 months. Then one night my wife pushed the temporary heat up a couple of degrees because she felt a chill, and the thermostat basically ran away. Would not shut off. The heat rose up to about eight degrees above the setpoint and would not shut off unless I manually shut off the system. I checked it the next morning, it was doing the same thing. Ignoring the setpoint and just running the furnace nonstop. The display seemed to indicate it was trying to follow the program, but the heat was on constantly and the temperature in the house was way too hot. Thermostat was not shutting off the furnace after reaching the setpoint. I threw this one away and bought a different brand.

Works great
Very functional inexpensive thermostat that allowed me to put a remote sensor in the place of my old thermostat, then mount this right unit by the furnace downstairs where my dog can't hear it click when it calls for heat. It's a trigger for her to bark and run about like a crazed maniac. House is quiet now.

This thermostat worked fine, The poor rating is because I got this to use with a remote sensor, and could not get it to work. I even called Emerson customer service to no avail.

Good price and covers all of the bases for a multi stage heat pump. Easy to setup, easy to use.

Not bad but a little pricey
The Emerson thermostat that my builder installed crapped out after 7 years so I purchased this one thinking it was the same model and it would just snap right onto the existing mount. It wasn’t and I had to change the mount anyway which wasn’t a huge deal but that is really the only reason I bought this one. Programming wasn’t super easy but wasn’t that hard either. If you have basic HVAC knowledge (I.e. understand the difference between a single and 2 stage system) you won’t have any difficulty. If you don’t know HVAC at all it could be a bit challenging. Instructions are strait forward but don’t really explain how to determine system types. Would I buy another one? I don’t know. For the money I think there are better options out there but it functions fine for what I need. The big blue screen is nice.
