Let there Be Light
Let There Be Light Most of us live a life of convenience if not luxury depending on one's glass half full or not philosophy. It usually doesn't take much to disturb that balance of one's comfort level and for me near the top of that list is a lack of water and light. So I have tried to prepare in the most basic ways for these occurrences if they arise. A case of bottle water always at the ready and a few gallons rotated every so often is the strategy for the former. The latter may have taken me a little over the edge as I find myself having a real interest in flashlights and lanterns, having purchased quite a few over the past couple of years. A longtime favorite a Coleman rechargeable lantern recently wouldn't light and so off I went looking for a replacement. As life would have it I found this out during a recent power outage which only lasted six hours right at the start of evening and reawakened my preparedness. This was also long enough for my youngest daughter to appreciate her father's foresight as she lamented over the return of our power. I have probably bought two dozen flashlights and a dozen lanterns over the last few years. I've spread the cost out by buying them periodically and searching for high quality at a reasonable cost which is relative and for me $50 or usually somewhat less. A few of my lantern's include the Coleman 3AA High-Tech LED Mini Lantern, Rayovac's SE3DLN Sportsman lantern, a Joby Gorillatorch Switchback Light/Lamp and couple of the CREE Q5 Waterproof LED Outdoor Camping Lights. While not a lantern honorable mention has to go to my two highly used Joby JB01242-CAM 125 Gorilla Torch Flare with Flexible Wrapable Legs. My goal is to be able to have some light for every room of my home and of course different flashlights as the need and use requires. While the Supernova 300 Lumens Ultra Bright LED Lantern is almost identical to my previous purchased SE3DLN Sportsman lantern I feel qualified to avoid my usual extended period of use and review this new lantern both with my initial impressions and my long-term expectations. The brightness difference is minimal and the size, shape and high quality are almost identical. The better deal therefore is the SE3DLN at a cost of approximately $10 less. I am however very satisfied with the Supernova 300. I'm somewhat astounded with the reviews that complain about the battery compartment closure which is simple and I did without looking at the more than ample instructions. Just looking at the bottom, you line up the arrows and twist ensuring a tight waterproof fit. My first lantern bought in 2011 still shines brightly with its original set of batteries. These lanterns are not huge and therefore easy to store and while supplying sufficient light to almost any room. My favorite features are the way they invert perfectly providing a slightly different angle of lighting and the dual hooks on either end. Overall a great and necessary item when needed. Stay away from the dark.

THE BEST LANTERN & OUTSTANDING CUSTOMER SERVICE
These lanterns are the BEST. Used thru two hurricanes in FL-5 years apart. The light is large & bright & there are 3 different types of light with just a push of the button on the front & the button blinks a slow red light so you can find the button in the dark! And their customer service is OUTSTANDING. When I got the lanterns out this year-2022-before Hurricane Ian, one had been inadvertently stored with the batteries still in & one battery had corroded & ruined one of the contacts in the base. I tried to clean off the contact but no luck. I contacted their customer service on the website & asked if they had any suggestions for cleaning the contact in the base. Their response was to send me a NEW base, free of charge! I even got a personal video from the owner to make sure they sent the correct base for my lantern! Can't get any better customer satisfaction than that! LOVE these lanterns!

Harness the sun
Summary: These lanterns are bright, durable, and work very well with rechargeable batteries. If you do a good deal of camping with bigger campsites or want to illuminate a larger area with the power of the sun, the SuperNova 500 will deliver. Pros: Lightweight and easy to pack; water resistant; can last ~14 hours of light using the low setting (which is very bright) and approx ~9 hrs on high on a single charge with rechargeable batteries Cons: Light is bluish (typical LEDs). Bottom battery cover can be difficult at first, but very simple once you do it a couple times. The cover is tight to keep out moisture and the batteries from falling out should it take a hit. I am a Boy Scout leader and did a great deal of research on lanterns to move our Troop from propane style lighting to something more sustainable and far less bulky for our monthly camp outs. We needed something that was durable, lightweight, very bright, and would support renewable energy using solar power. The SuperNova 500 use 3x D cell batteries. After much testing and trial/error, I found a great pairing with these lanterns with the Powerex Imedion D cell batteries sold by Maha Energy (on Amazon). The batteries are not cheap, but they can be recharged 2000 times, and most importantly put out consistent bright light with these lanterns all the way up to full discharge. The lanterns can use typical alkaline batteries just the same, but we were after solar charging to teach the Boys about harnessing renewable energy. I bought five of these lanterns and have used them on camping trips this spring. With about 20 boys, we really put them through the paces. They were knocked around, left outside in the rain, knocked off the table at least once, and were attacked by swarms of mosquitoes. Although we did not leave them in the rain for long, they did not have any issues and the seals kept the moisture out. Trust me - I was looking for weaknesses in design and ability to last. I have not found any and expect them to be a permanent feature at our camp outs for many more years to come. One last note. Having a great product fairly priced is key, but backing that product with great customer service is a lost art these days as more companies race to the bottom to sell cheap junk by cutting corners. These lanterns come with a 5 year no BS warranty and the interaction I have had with Intervine has been phenomenal. They genuinely stand behind their products and have been very accommodating and supportive of the Boy Scouts of America. Here is a picture of these bright lanterns and few of Intervine's Halo lights getting prepped for camping. It was brighter than the midday sun with them all going inside the house.

Great lamp, needs improvement on the base fitting.
This is a very nice lamp with very good light output, but, if they hadn't added the "little red arrows" to line up the base when refitting it, one would definitely be pulling their hair out trying to get it back on. :/ The lamp is very well made, but, the base fastening design is terribly thought out. This is the "only" reason for the four stars.

Don't waste money on a gas lamp
Amazing nice and bright not as bright as a gas one but still really good and you can bang it about and drop it and not worry about breaking it unlike a gas one
