Thanks for the instructions!
Ordinarily I wouldn't write a review for a cable, unless I wanted to warn people away from a bad product. But I'm making an exception this time because I really appreciate the instructions that were included. I didn't know that a drive wouldn't necessarily show up in Windows and I wouldn't have known what the problem was. The included instructions cleared things up for me, so I just wanted to give a big thumbs up for that.

Plug & Play as advertised
I took my 2TB Seagate Fire Cuda SATA HDD out of my Asus TUF Gaming FX504 and it worked immediately. All I did was attach the cable and it found all partitions with ease no additional setup required. The Asus Tuf FX504 ran like the wind but poorly constructed. After 18 month the monitor went and then it started freezing and overheating. Even the casing cracked during travel. But this cable saved the day and got me back to work. My new MSI computer didn’t come with an internal 2.5 bay along with the NVMe slot.

All you need for small SATA drives
I tested this against many other devices and this has the fastest transfer speeds. It only works for drives that don’t need extra power, so your 3.5” drive from your desktop PC would need an externally powered solution. It works reliably. This has never caused an error. I have left it to copy to and from drives on a file level or a block level for hours or days and in that time it never had trouble. The transfer would complete successfully every time!

It works every time for me
Bought this to clone new ssds for each of my computers and it worked as advertised. I used free macrium reflect each time and it took a while to clone with usb but when installed the worked as they should with no problems.

Worked perfectly
Used it to clone an original HDD to a new SSD. windows recognized the new drive immediately on the USB port, and the cloning process was fine.

Great for external SATA 2.5" drives... but
having worked with computers since the era of 5¼ floppies, I am used to pushing technology to many edges. This is a simple device to use for almost anyone.. fits in drive nicely, recognized by windows 7 and up easily. Remember to connect to drive, put drive gently on non-conductive surface, then plug into computer/laptop. Use Windows Eject, then remove as gracefull. give older drives at least a minute to spin down to prevent damage. The only problem I ran into was during imaging, this appears to overheat and slow from it's nearly 2.5Gb transfer, and suffering until it cools down again. If you plan to image drives, use a powered dock instead.

Good quality and plugs in great
This is a sturdy and high quality cable. Plugs into my laptop well and plugs into the SSD perfectly and does not wobble or have any connectivity issues. I used this to format multiple SSDs for the PS3. Highly recommend this and its a great price.

Works flawlessly with Raspberry Pi 4
Works as expected on the USB3.0 ports on the Raspberry Pi 4, for both extending the filesystem as well as booting (OK, so right now the /boot partition needs to stay on the SD card but everything else can do on an external SSD/HDD). Bought 4 of these for my Raspberry Pi Kubernetes Cluster. The only criticism I would have of it is that it's more expensive than other options, however having tried cheaper alternatives (such as Sabrent) this is the only one that the Raspberry Pi 4 seems happy to boot off of.

Easy To Use - Plus TRIM + S.M.A.R.T For Relevant Drives
Not much to say, here, it does what it says on the tin, and unlike some others (KabelDirekt "Pro Series" - B01G3V5ZH2) has the full ability to be the main cable in an operating system running from a USB drive. This is because (and I can confirm) it has the ability to operate fully using TRIM and S.M.A.R.T. functionality on a connected drive. TRIM is something which is good for both security (to a small degree) and somewhat prolonging the lifespan of the drive in operating systems which support it. As it ensures that the right space is available when needed for storage, and keeps the drive's 'blocks' in order, accordingly, within that. That isn't a perfect description, I know, but then, I'm not perfect. ;-) S.M.A.R.T. is potentially *much* more important, as it allows you to ably ensure the health of a connected drive. Without it I wouldn't have had a clue that my main OS drive was dying, recently!

TRIM works with Linux but only with a bit of fiddling
This is great and good value for the price. Worth noting that this version has no connector for an external power supply so it is only for SSDs and 2.5" HDDs. This does support passing TRIM/UNMAP through to SSDs; I ran Startech's firmware update tool before testing but it's quite possible the unit already shipped with the up-to-date firmware (the tool doesn't give any info about what it's done or what the previous version was.) Getting TRIM to actually work on Linux though was a bit of a fiddle though - even using kernel 5.3.x I had to manually set 'provisioning_mode' to 'unmap' in /sys (you can set it with udev as well - googling for those terms should find the appropriate info.) This is likely to be a problem with Linux not the device though - Windows was quite happy to issue TRIMs without any fiddling or extra drivers.

Really useful, especially for a Raspberry Pi SSD drive
Update Nov 2018 I've been using a couple of these at home, and found them very useful and versatile. Perfect for connecting SSDs to a PC for formatting, etc., and work extremely well in combination with cheap 32Gb SATA SSDs with Raspberry Pi 3B and 3B+ computers. They will also power 2.5 SATA hard drives, should you wish to use them. I'm a teacher, and recently acquired for my classroom a complete set of Raspberry Pi 3Bs. I use 20+ of these cables with 32Gb SSDs to provide the working environment for my pupils. These cables *just work*, and make the task of getting the pupils up and running at the start of each lesson really easy. Top recommendation. Great piece of kit. There may be cheaper alternatives on Amazon, but I'm sticking with these for the next classroom I fit out. ---- Purchased to allow the connection of a cheap 30Gb SSD to a Raspberry Pi 3B, to act as the OS drive for an experimental server. Worked flawlessly, and even can work with a 500Gb 2.5" SATA drive I had kicking around -- powered from the Pi, which in turn was powered by a USB to microUSB cable from a monitor! This, plus a cheap SSD make the Pi an excellent and reliable tool -- I cannot rely on microSD cards for longevity, and USB flash drives, though an acceptable substitute, are not as good as an SSD and one of these cables. Highly recommended.

Yet to find a drive it actually works with.. Limited to 2TB in 2018!!
Bought this in January 2018. I have tried it with multiple drives and it has yet to work. Something I didn't notice until now was that hidden in the tech spec is that this thing is only able to work with drives up to 2TB. It's 2018! Its USB3.1! But maxes out at 2TB! Well that probably explains why it doesn't work. It's literally useless as everything I have is over 2TB. One more thing.. tried to leave a review on StarTech's own website and no matter what computer or browser I use - the review won't save. Was wondering why products so many products had no reviews or good ones only. Very disappointing and if StarTech likes their customers then they should contact me.
