Excellent Printer

We're a very light printing household - maybe 3 or 4 times a year and usually 10 or less pages. Id absolutely had my fill of having to spend $30+ every time we wanted to print as the ink had dried up, and then $50 every 2 or 3 years as the cheap printer broke. Last time we bought a higher end Canon printer and while it lasted longer, it still ate ink as quick as the cheap ones. It was also "wireless" although it was very finicky and rarely worked correctly, so I almost always plugged in to avoid the hassle. Found this reasonably priced laser and I'm absolutely in love. The wireless works 100% perfectly with no hiccups from phones or computers. Printing is fast and crisp. My favorite part is we had a 6 month gap between printing, and it ran like new, something our old ink jets would've struggled to do. I also really like the feed tray copier function as we'd have normally went to a print store to make copies like that as its too slow to make copies on the a regular flat plate scanner.

Super simple with Ubuntu Linux

The printer does not include a USB cable, but does have a type-B port. There is also an ethernet connection, but no cable, and it can use wireless networks (IEEE 802.11b/g/n). It was able to connect to my wireless network after I pressed some special connection helping button on the router. I then brought up the settings on my Ubuntu running computer and went to the printer section to add the printer, but it was already there! Printing and scanning worked with no further fiddling. Pretty easy. I left the printer's sleep settings at the default; it hasn't caused any problems. The printer has a password for administration through its web interface. Firefox on Ubuntu can connect to it, but there are some issues. The printer supports IPv6, but my Firefox won't connect to an IPv6 address entered on the address bar. IPv4 works, but Firefox complains that the security certificate is self-signed, so a security exception needs to be made. Entering the password for the admin interface seems to only work when https is used, but if I forget to start with https explicitly, I need to try again on a new tab. After that, I can change the admin password. Firefox on Windows handles IPv6 just fine (good), and does not complain about the self-signed certificate (bad).

Difficult to set up wirelessly through WiFI

Setting up to print wirelessly through WiFi took awhile. The procedure is a little bit cumbersome, not very intuitive. Once set up though, I was able to print from the bedroom with the computer to the living room where the printer resides. The copying function worked flawlessly. The printing quality is very good, better than even bigger and more expensive machine but is a little bit noisy and relatively slow. So far, I have not been able to scan wirelessly, have to use the wired method with an USB cable to scan documents. The online manual is a little bit confusing, listing functions and procedures for various models at the same time and these models do not have the same functions most of the time. Overall, the machine works fine as a home printer and is relatively inexpensive.It does not have a fax function.

Very adequate printer

I got tired of buying ink for my old HP printer. It seems to me it ran out of ink every 3 months and the ink cost about half of the printer itself. So I bought this printer. The cartridge is suppose to be good for some thousand of prints but that remain to be seen. The print quality is good, it prints faster than the old printer. Right out of the body it is ready to work. Setup is miniscule. I use WiFi which is a breeze to configure. I am happy with it.

Toner that came with this lasted 'maybe' 200 pages - 3.5 Months Young!

Annoyed! Yesterday I was printing and a Low Toner message came up! Shocking as I literally have had this printer 3.5 months and printed maybe 200 - 250 pages max! Today I'm going out to buy a $80 Toner - NOT HAPPY!!! I can not even find the correct Customer Service person to voice my issue with - everything is super automated. I think I was sold a repackaged printer;(

Great printer just what I wanted.

I like that fact that it is a laser not a ink jet. I had a problem with ink jets stopping up. And clogging the head on my printer. It was a struggle monthly. Works great. Clean print The cartridge last a lot longer. The only draw back is no Color. But I don't need a color printer.

Printer great. Toner was dried out

The printer is fantastic. Just what I need, and then some. However, the toner it came with dried out entirely after 150 pages. if this is the best the toner for this product can do, I will have to rethink this purchase. Sadly, was waiting on its arrival to print research for a manuscript proposal. Otherwise, the printer seems great for my needs. Fast, dependable, clarity of print, and easy to set up and install with my computer set up.

Ive had the printer for a month with no complaints.

Printer was used for personal use. I had no idea how to set the printer up. Called Brother Tech support setting up the printer with tech support was EASY BREEZY.

Solid Printer!

I converted from inkjet to laser and i'm loving it! A solid printer! The included installation CD did not work for me, you will have to download the "Full Driver & Software Package" from Brother's support page online (after entering the model number). Setup is fairly straight forward; it may take a couple of tries for it to initially connect to the WiFi, I had to use the WLAN Setup Wizard from the printer LCD midway through the computer software installation, and then proceed with the installation once the printer was connected to the WiFi. Only need to set it up once and it is pretty much available to use from any other device connected to the WiFi network Really well built printer, very impressive performance.

Incredible value...

I bought this for my wife who s a teacher and is constantly printing tests, lessons, worksheets, etc. The HP all-in-one- inkjet I originally got her her was causing her many, many problems. But we always found a way to get past the headaches and make it work. Then it finally gave up the ghost. The touchscreen stopped working so we couldn't connect the printer to our WiFi network anymore. I told my wife that I was through with inkjets and I would get her a laser printer. After a little research, I found out that not only were laser printers very affordable, but that Brother had an excellent reputation for laser printers! At this price point, I had no trouble taking a chance. It's only been a month, but unlike the HP inkjet, the Brother DCPL2550DW has worked flawlessly right from the beginning without a hitch. The only time-consuming part was the initial set-up where I downloaded the lastest software from the Brother web site. After that, we were treated to a printer that actually works well without any trouble! It lacks some of the refinement other printers may offer, like a colored touchscreen, but considering how our HP ended up failing on us, I'll forgo the little extras and stick to a reliable workhorse like this Brother DCPL2550DW. No more headaches. No more problems. A wireless printer that actually works! My wife and I could not be any happier.

Produit polluant!

L'imprimante fonctionne bien, jusqu'au moment où l'indication "replace toner" apparait, et ce, même si l'imprimante fonctionne encore très bien. À partir de là, plus rien à faire. J'ai rechargé la cartouche, mais la puce sur la cartouche indique qu'elle est vide. J'ai acheté une cartouche compatible, mais encore une fois, l'imprimante refuse tout produit qui n'est pas une cartouche neuve Brother, et ce, à 3 fois le prix. L'entreprise nous encourage ainsi à jeter notre vieille cartouche à la poubelle et à consommer leur produit polluant. Le profit avant tout, c'est aberrant.

This is the kind of printer that can ruin a marriage!!! Do not buy!

Pure garbage. I've liked Brother printers in the past, but this one is ALWAYS offline on all devices. I will attempt to wake it by pressing a button (like the Brother Tech Help assistant said) but is always showing offline on all of my PC's or Phones. Not sure why this occurs, as the other printers in my house work juuuust fine. I can't send this hunk of garbage back, as I've missed the window, but this was sent to us last August, and has been crappy since November...we weren't really using it much until then, and is primarily used by my wife for her business. Trust me, it's been a pure headache and I'm an IT Professional that's worked with 100's of printers. Do NOT buy this printer, and I guess we'll be done with Brother printers now for good.

Great Printer! Here's Why

I got tired of paper jams and low paper tray hold count on my Samsung Printer. This Brothers printer holds 250 sheets, doesn't jam, is wireless (aside from power of course) and prints easily from my Iphone XS. Set up was simple, I was printing within 10 minutes. Highly recommend. Unsure how much toner comes with the provided cartridge. I ordered a high yield non-brothers brand for $22.00 here on Amazon, you have to change the chip from the provided cartridge to the new one, it looks very simple to do.
