Update, the 1200 was making a lot of noise, went with the 1225 instead
Update: A few days later...After using the 1200 caetrage, o have noticed that if you want to reduce the water pressure by pushing it in some (with it connected to the Moen shower knob) it starts to make a very loud sound that radiates through the metal pipes. The original caetrage did not do this, as id often use about half the water pressure while washing and then would increase it when rinsing, and the original caetrage was quite regardless of how much water you adjusted it to by pulling or pushing it in. But this all brass 1200 makes a lot of noise unless you have it pulled all the way out with no water being restricted. Once you start to push it in some to reduce the water pressure, the sound gets louder and louder. I was thinking that it's because the brass of the cartridge is vibrating against the metal valve assembly. So I decided to try the 1225 model cartridge since the outside is plastic. Today I took out the brass 1200 and put in the plastic 1225. That right there solved the problem. Now I can use it and like before and push it in to reduce the water pressure without any resistance noise coming from it or the pipes. So I'll be using the 1225 instead. Just have to see how long it will last. Originally review: The main headache is having to use a cartridge remover to remove the old one. Mine was Ori from when this house was built in 1986, and over the past year it's been harder to turn the shower water knob and now it won't entire turn off (water still comes out some). So I had to replace the cartridge. I went with the 1200 model since it was all brass and not any plastic like the 1225. After I got the original one out, it actually had some plastic on it, though it was never replaced. The new 1200 all brass one looked much better quality. Got it installed and tested it out. Now you can adjust the temp knob with one finger it moves so easily. I just hope it last almost 37 years like the original.

Works as advertised
Works and installs as expected. Worth watching a online video or two before installation just to make sure you do it right.

Good part
This is just what I needed to replace the old shower unit which was leaking. The brass is solid and seems like it will last better than the plastic ones I have seen in stores. I works perfectly after I replaced the old one.

Moen-brand all-brass part worked like a charm
The item I received from Amazon was as expected: Moen brand, sealed in original packaging, and all-brass. (However I did later find the same thing at *one* of the local big-box stores, where you can see what you're getting. Slightly cheaper, too. But perhaps about to be discontinued there, as it has been at another big store?) The part comes with a small plastic "tool" to let you rotate the cartridge, to help free it. You might be able to pull it out using strong pliers on the knob-shaft, but generally I think it's a lot easier with one of the extraction tools you can buy separately. (I had kept a tool from the last time I'd replaced our two bath/shower cartridges, 22 years ago, in our nearly-50-year-old faucets). Or you could probably make a simple tool: a T-handle and longish screw that screws in where the handle-attaching screw goes. (BTW a big thanks to Moen for still supporting such old plumbing!) I did not attempt to clean out the recess where the cartridge fits, as some reviewers did (note that the cartridge does not move, once installed). It felt smooth enough to my finger, in spite of our fairly hard water. It installed easily with no leaks, as did two others I recently installed (one for a neighbor), and the two I'd installed years ago. As for keeping hot and cold directions straight, just note the orientation of the diagonal rubber seal on the old cartridge (don't turn it too far while removing it!), and copy that. (It *may* be possible to reverse hot and cold directions by just removing the knob and rotating the inner part of the cartridge 180 degrees, rather than removing and re-installing the whole thing. But I did not need to try that.) I also replaced the brass clip that holds the cartridge in place, but don't think that would usually be necessary. And they're not cheap! BTW one of the trickiest steps was removing the old clip, to allow the old cartridge to be removed. Only a tiny portion of the small hole in the top of the clip was exposed, so I needed something with a sharp but strong point to lift it out. A sharp awl did it (Swiss Army knife to the rescue again!), followed by small pliers, once it was loose. When you put the clip back in, make sure it goes in all the way (you'll hear it click).

Moen 1200 cartridge replacement
The package containing cartridge had been opened. The plastic cap to ease installation as shown on the directions was missing. Also the retaining clip was missing. Contacted Moen and the only response I received was a call back for next week. Will upgrade rating after installing cartridge. UPDATE. Contacted Moen and they sent out the missing part. Would recommend they add to the product description that the retaining clip is not included. Had to purchase locally. Cartridge installed just fine and is working great.

Worked very well, highly recommend this Moen 1200 replacement part.
The packaging should be easier to open. Reduce the amount of points melted and make the back side longer by 1/8 inch that way a man with gloves on can run their thumb over the top to separate the back from the top packaging and they can then grip the back and open the package without spilling the contents out. Small thing to make an excellent product even better.

Go with the all Brass model
I installed this into a Moen Chateau 7500 old sink faucet. It works great. (Note: the last time I needed to replace the cartridge I tried the Moen model 1225 which is made of plastic. When I tried to remove the old 1225, it broke leaving the bottom rubber parts and plastic piece in the faucet. I was able to remove the rubber pieces with some extended needle nose pliers and the bottom plastic piece with an extra wide and flat, flat tipped screwdriver that kind of wedged into the plastic piece allowing me to pull it out.) I believe these new all brass versions do not have the lead problem that the original all brass versions had. And most important they won't break when being pulled out for replacement.

Perfect fit, worked great and got rid of the drip
Had a drip from the shower tap in an older Moen fixture, this worked perfectly, drip was fixed. Required a special tool to remove the old cartridge although you could make do otherwise
