What should have been in your shower to begin with
This is a blatant example of a company taking a shortcut and selling you, at realtiavely great expense, what should have been included with your shower valve in the first place. For those that don't know, the Moen factory original valves are made of plastic with rubber seals. Over time, the rubber breaks down, swells, or just degrades and you end up with a leaking faucet you cannot turn off. Sure you could take the cheap way out and buy another replacement unit made of plastic...and you know in some years time that too will fail at a grossly inopportune moment and you'll be without a shower for days. This thing is an overpriced piece of brass, that's a fact, but it should last indefinitely. Can't necessarily say the same for the rubber seals, but the unit itself isn't going to flake away into shards of plastic. My house has three showers with four such valves. I not only replaced mine, but I bought a spare to replace that one that will inevitably fail at 3AM some winter night with three feet of snow on the ground. Oh, and buy the silly little metal staple-like clip...just do it...you'll wish you had otherwise. Yes, it's an even more overpriced piece of simple metal, but it's critical...so just buy it...and buy a second one for that 3AM water leak you just know you'll have now that you've read this. Why can't these companies just make their products ever so slightly more expensive, while shipping them with components that last? I know why...money is why...but you'd think we could expect better.

Great Replacement for the Plastic Junk that Moen uses with their One Handled Valves from the Factory
Update 2/27/2021: For the last 7 months, we have continually used the bathtub upstairs in this 5 person household. The cartridge is holding up well with no leaks and turns as freely as the day it was installed. The negative reviews here must be a one-off scenario because we have had great luck so far. Will update if things change. Side note: Today I changed a 22 year old Delta RP19804 Cartridge for my Delta 1300/1400 series shower rough in for our basement and I will say that this Moen 1222HD cartridge is so much easier to remove/replace than the Delta RP19904. If you are starting a bathroom remodel and are replacing your tub/shower rough in... go with Moen and this 1222HD cartridge for longevity and durability. Original Review from 7/30/2020: I purchased this item via the "Open Box-Never Used" section here on Amazon. It was WELL worth the savings over the cost of New in Box. At $30, this was an outright bargain. I chose this cartridge with the intention of doing the job once. Here are some caveats that you should be aware of: -If you order via open box, your new Brass Cartridge doesn't come with a packet of Lube for the rubber side gaskets and main O-Ring near the top of the stem. I recommend purchasing Jacks 327 Pool Lube by Hayward here on Amazon. That stuff is gold for pools, and is what I used for this job. -You will need an Allen key for the handle, Phillips Head Screwdriver, and Needle Nosed Pliers in addition to the Danco (for Moen Cartridges) or Moen Cartridge Puller and Danco 100% Silicone Lube or Jacks 327 Pool Lube for this job. Now that that is out of the way, you can begin the process of removing the Old Plastic Junk Cartridge that is in your existing shower valve. First thing is first.... Shut Your Water Supply Off! Leave the Valve open for a moment to let the remaining water drain out. Then, remove the handle by removing the Allen Key in the bottom of the handle, remove the phillips head screw holding on the handle adapters and remove. Remove the Metal Key Sleeve Cover. Pull out the metal clip holding in your cartridge using needle nosed pliers. Grab your Danco or Moen Cartridge Pulling Tool, loosen screw and latch onto cartridge. Tighten Screw into Stem.... turn puller left and right while gently pulling out and the cartridge should come out. Before installing new Moen 1222HD Cartridge, lube the fins on the side of the cartridge and the upper O-Ring (near the stem) with Jacks 327 Pool Lube or Danco 100% Silicone Lube that is not petroleum based and is meant for use in water. Re-Install your new 1222HD Brass cartridge by reversing this procedure. Before screwing the handle back on (last step), turn the water back on and test to ensure your valve is off and not dripping so you can put the handle back on correctly. Turn the water back off, tighten your handle, and turn the water back on to ensure its correct. This Cartridge has made such a LARGE DIFFERENCE in the ease of use for my 4 year old Moen Bathtub Faucet. I can turn it effortlessly with one finger now (it almost feels too loose), whereas before it was incredibly hard to shutoff... almost to the point of snapping the handle clean off. Its a shame that Moen doesn't include this cartridge with every one of their faucets to begin with. Those Plastic Posi-Temp Cartridges are junk because they have O-Rings inside that become hard or brittle over time due to hard water or sediment buildup. This causes them to seize up and fail, like mine practically did. Do yourself a favor.... Buy this cartridge once. Save yourself the aggrevation of doing it multiple times. Don't even consider buying the Plastic Cartridge. This is much better. Don't risk breaking your arm to shut your water off!

Way smoother than the plastic ones
Seems to be worth the extra money. The movement is way smoother than a new plastic cartridge. The shower handle moves now with minimal resistance. I'm really hoping it will last longer as well.

So glad I got this instead of the nylon
Despite having to chisel the old nylon pos out at 11 at night, it did take a while to get this back in too. the white part was loose, but it finally installed ok. hope it lasts long - we have a softener, and the nylon lasted about 10 years, which seems longer than most, but hoping the brass will outlast. also, the symptom was we could not turn the water off (or we could but it was really really tight and that made it difficult.) I have another waiting to go for the other cartridges in our house too. I would definitely recommend this over the nylon one. i ordered the removal tool, but not sure that would have helped. Also, the lubricant had leaked all over the packaging (and everything was slimy on the inside),, so i was glad i had ordered extra just in case, and it had come today as well.

The video instructions are wrong for installation
The media could not be loaded. In the video it shows when you re-insert the cartridge it should be with "notch" up, then install stop tube, then the temp limiter, then the handle piece. For this HD version, you actually need to re-insert the cartridge with the notch down, then the temp limiter, then the handle piece. Put in the retaining screw and then turn it to the right to turn off. Took me forever to figure out why it was wrong when I followed the video exactly.

Glad I got the good one
Was having issues with old one, the hot side turned into a trickle. Not leaking but no pressure. Figured the cartridge faulty and I was correct. Was going to get moen plastic but 2 week wait on Amazon. Went to home depot, they have cheaper Danco product and standard moen for 54$ plus tax. I only want to do this job once and decided to pay 10$ more on Amazon for all brass. Installation was a breeze after I figured out how to correctly connect handle. After putting it with HC on top, like it came out, and replacing handle, off position was on and full on was off. Somehow I made a mistake so, before putting on handle I turned water on and turned cartridge to stop flow, then put handle on in off position and problem solved. First timer mistake. All good now..old cartridge was really seized in opening. Without buying puller and fighting with that, here's my solution. Leverage. Took a reasonable amount of force. The plastic breaker that came with new cartridge would never have worked.

Performs better in freezing temperatures
Found this to replace the multiple plastic cartridges for an outdoor shower, that I had gone through in freezing weather. The brass is solid and overall has saved me money and maintenance time...so far, has lasted 3 years

Great replacement for builder cartridge.
I bought this to replace a plastic 1222 cartridge that came with the original house (19 years). The old one was starting to leak and finally the stem broke off when I went to turn on the faucet. I read reviews on the plastic cartridge on the US website and quite a few people said it only lasted a few years before it started to leak. I opted to get the brass cartridge so that I wouldn't have to deal with replacing this cartridge for another 20 years. So far it's been great, the faucet turns on smooth as silk compared to the old cartridge. Was easy to install by following the youtube videos and the instruction pamphlet included in the packaging. Takes about 10 minutes tops if you're handy. Would recommend, shipping was quick and I got it the next day.

Good Quality
With a family of four, shows are important. I needed a control valve that can handle well water that has many unfriendly materials that are hard on valves. This control valve certainly reduced my shower failures. This product is functioning well in my circumstance and I recommend it for those who want reduced maintenance failures. I certainly recommend this valve.

Great
Great fit for the shower faucet. Very easy to install even with the supplied removal plastic tool, just take your time. Great improvement over the original plastic cartridge, now I can turn the water very easily with one finger and no dripping
