Handy for card making and scrapbooking

I bought this to use in my scrapbooking and for making cards. It is very easy to use and the boards that run through the machine have great pictures and instructions on which ones to use for which thickness of die.

A fantastic starter kit...

My wife is a crafter who makes cards for charity and teaches card making and crafts to various age groups. This is the latest 'must have' gadget and before Christmas my wife kept dropping hints about how 'useful' it would be; when it came up on a lightening at £100 for the starter pack it was a no-brainer and earned me a stack of brownie points when it arrived. This is a comprehensive kit with everything you would need to start making interesting embossed designs and creating windows, frames and other effects - like 3D flowers. It is easy to use, however, it is a bit annoying that the handle that drives the machine has either to be taken off and reattached each time you use it, or, you have to find somewhere big to store it fully assembled, as with the handle attached it won't fit back in the box it comes in. My wife ended up buying a storage box big enough to take not just the 'Big Shot Plus' but also another storage box that contains her ever growing collection of dies and other paraphernalia. As other reviewers have pointed out, this machine also works with other dies and currently there are dies that are being included in crafting magazines that also work with it. My wife likes experimenting with this type of machine, she played for weeks with a CriCut machine and she's been doing the same with this with some interesting results. It's not what you'd call portable but she's stuck it in the boot of the car and taken it to Brownies and used it on craft projects with them. She is very happy with this and is looking forward to getting a lot of use out of it. Excellent die cutting/embossing machine that is so versatile it's unbelievable how professional it can make your projects look.

Good A4 die cutting machine...but still to be persuaded

I was not a previous Big Shot user but was tempted by this A4 die cutting machine. I bought this starter kit for a fabulous price and it has not been bettered. The accessories that come with the kit are really useful. Now to the machine itself. As a Cuttlebug and Grand Calibur user, these were my comparators. Its a large format machine that requires a lot more space to operate - much bigger than an A4 footprint plus clearance front and back - and probably needs a dedicated space on a desk. The plates are slightly bigger than A4 so your paper doesnt get creased on the edges and you can put lots of dies on a flat service to be cut in one pass. However they are heavy and with the plates and adapters supplied with the kit, there is no combination to emboss thin metal dies which is a disappointment. I'm still not clear what combination is required for that (texture mat?). Although I kept the big shot plus, I'm still in two minds about whether its better than my Grand Calibur. I just didnt want to return it and kick myself for not keeping what is still a massive bargain.

Beyond my Expectations.

You really cant go wrong with the Market Leaders (Ellison) in this field, a robust, quality piece of kit that is also visually pleasing and of course I can now do sheets of A4 size which is going to add a whole new dimension to my crafting! There are a substantial amount of additional items included in this package and if you are fortunate enough to find as reliable a supplier as I did in "Hannah Crafts" then its all good. You can take this item out of the box and start crafting straight away, take a look at the package as a whole and you will see what I mean. This purchase as been well beyond my expectations. I still have my trusty Big Shot but,and I never thought I would ever say this, it is left in the shade by its big brother, if you are contemplating paying the extra for this machine I would say go ahead and do so you will be pleased you did.
