Works perfectly for my needs but has a scratch

This compass works perfectly for my needs, and even though there is no adjustable declination, they have markings to help you do the math and once you get used to it it works perfect. I’m not an orienteer so I don’t need anything too fancy but it is nice to have the option of knowing and correcting for declination even if it is not adjustable. It is liquid filled I believe and is very smooth turning and accurate. My main problem with this compass which is why I knocked off a star it that the face came scratched a little through one of the degree markings, it is not so bad that I cannot make it out but when you buy a new thing you kinda want it to be pristine (then after that all scratches and dings are from your own adventures) the problem is how the compass is packaged by Silva, there is no plastic covering the face of the compass, it is simply mounted in cardboard. Eco friendly for sure but leaves it susceptible to the inevitable scratching of the face when they are all rubbing against one another in storage. I cannot say if this scratch came from the seller or from Silva, but there really is no way for the seller to prevent this from happening. I just wish Silva paid more attention to their packaging choices.

All you need

I don't know anyone who isn't a boy scout who does fancy orienteering these days. This Compass covers the basics: which way is which? Which is what I use it for. I don't like looking at electronic gizmos outside in the bright sunlight either, so just give me a basic compass like this.

Im a land surveyor and it's one of my favorite tools.. It's simple it's useful and if I lose it not like my $180 Sunnto is gone. Ive also used this for map and compass teaching.

IT WORKS

this is a good basic compass that gives an accurate direction when used correctly - for the price its a great value - the movement is not dampened as much as i would like but then its an inexpensive compass - i keep it in a dilly back i carry on a shoulder strap everywhere, it my emergency everyday carry bag, just throw it in with everything else - it has taken quite a beating and still works great

Not very Accurate

Bought a bunch of these to give to Boy Scouts for Christmas. Amazing how very few of them showed the same heading when we went outside to use them for orienteering. Disappointed.

Excellent compact little compass

Sold at a good price this little compass will help in any planning of walks on the open moors or on the mountains. It is very light and easy to keep in a pocket while actually out in the hills.
