Hands Free - Clean as Can Be
I can’t believe my life has come to this, but I am writing a review abut diaper pails. But, I feel that my gained knowledge about #2s is worthy of being passed on, and although it might sound a little silly, I have become strangely enamored with my diaper pail, the Dekor. We have 5 kids, and over the years, I’ve changed a lot of diapers. The first diaper pail we got years ago was a diaper genie, and I was never a fan. My biggest complaint was that after you had changed the diaper, you had to push said stinky, gross, and sometimes - otherworldly large diaper thru a small hole on the genie… squishing it to fit into a small hole would often cause, let’s call it “spillage”, that would get poop on your hand, on the pail, and generally places where you don’t want poop. Remember, you are doing this while holding your bundle of everlasting joy in one arm while reaching down to stuff the otherworldly large diaper into an unfathomably small hole. Not an easy task. And then, we discovered the Dekor. It rocks. Why? It’s HANDS FREE. Game changer. It has a foot pedal that opens the pail, then you simply drop the diaper thru the trap door. That’s it! Let me tell you, when it’s 3 a.m., and you are a zombie from lack of sleep, you need this process to be as simple as possible. I shudder to think the number of diapers that I have changed over the years, but this diaper pail makes it a lot easier than it was with the Genie. There is another pail that we looked at, the Ubbi, that cost quite a bit more and is made of metal. I looked at in in the store, and it also requires bending over, and sliding a door open, inserting a diaper, and then sliding it closed when finished. Kind of a pain to do every time you change a diaper. It is made of metal, so it shouldn’t absorb odors like the diaper genie did, but the Dekor is made of ABS that doesn’t absorb odors either, so I don’t see the big deal. Another think about the metal pails. In my research (isn’t it a bit sad that I’ve done research? – We really need to get out more), the manufacturer says to clean with a dry cloth. No cleaning products or even water. Ok, that is just gross. With Dekor, clean with whatever household cleaner you want, let’s kill any germs that are hanging around. Bags. Different pails have different systems. Some use household kitchen bags, some use cartridges of bags. Dekor comes with a loaded refill, and in my opinion, that is the way to go. You use what you need, and then switch out the bag. We tried using a kitchen bag instead of the refill in the Dekor, and it was ok, but honestly, we preferred the refill. It’s always there and ready to go, you only use what you need, and in the long run I bet it costs about the same. Stink. Stank. Stunk. – (Prepare for more wisdom). Poop stinks. Shocking isn’t it? There's a reason every diaper pail that's been around more than a couple months has a bunch of 1 star reviews. Go look at all the other product. Notice they're all about 3.5 or 4 stars. Then click on the 1 star link for each of them and you'll see what I mean. You'll see dozens of people talk about how each product is terrible and every pail sticks to high heaven. Mostly that's because people have unrealistic expectations that buying a diaper pail means you never have to smell poopy diapers. This is compounded by the fact that the poop only starts to smell once your bundle of everlasting joy begins eating solids. So when you first bring the baby home you think everything is great and the pail is working perfectly and then all of the sudden the pail is terrible and horrible and is broken... Well it's not broken, your baby's poop just didn't used to stink and now it does. Here's the truth, no matter which on you buy, you're gonna smell poop. whether it's when you open the lid or remove the bag, they all allow a little stank to escape. Dekor is no different, it just allows less than the others. Sometimes we go a few days between changing the bag, sometimes we switch it out quicker due to one of those otherworldly poops. The box for the Dekor says it can hold 60 diapers. We might have gone close to that with some newborn diapers, but once the poop got serious, we never waited that long. Reading back over this, I can’t believe I just wrote a manifesto on diaper pails. But, I thought I would share some of the knowledge I have gained over thousands of diapers. I just think the Dekor works. It’s the easiest to use of all the diaper pails by far, and handles the smell. I highly recommend it.

Great for use with cloth diapers!
We use this with a reusable liner and cloth diapers and it is fantastic. Very easy to get the reusable bag in and out and holdsa couple days worth of diapers (baby is so an infant, so a couple days is a lot of diapers!). We use a mix of prefolds and AIO diapers so some of them are bulky and they fit in just fine though the top. We got two pail liners and swap them out every two or three days and it's been great. We're considering getting a second one to take to my parents for when we are at their place it's so good. Highly recommend to anyone doing cloth diapering.

PERFECT use for puppy pads
My Chihuahua is 3.5 pounds and will be 2 years old in May. Majority of her potty moments are indoor due to snow winters and birds of prey summers. Originally I went from using 16+ plastic bags per week to ONE diaper pail plastic bag per week with almost zero smell each time this diaper pail is opened. To help control the oder level bowl movements are flushed. It was delivered double boxed and ready to use. I love the easy open step pedal and interior door that helps control the smell. The only "minimal" negative is the inner door could be a little bigger. The side door is easy access for removing filled bags and setting up new bags. Since it's new and was ready to use I can only assume the refill bag process will be easy to install from what I've seen on the videos... time will tell.

Best Diaper pail & love the mint color
I originally got a white version of this diaper pail off the local moms fb page 2nd hand. So I have no idea how long she had it. But it FINALLY broke after 17 months with me. I started researching & looking into all that Amazon has to offer. I decided to stay with the 1 I love & can say I've used a few (I'm also a nanny). The no squish mess (with a lot of the others) is the BIGGEST selling point in my opinion lol. They also have several colors & the only 1 that I've seen in mint green (my favorite color & can do in any room). My 18-month-old has been able to throw his diapers in there (he likes it & I'm not going to stop him from helping- he's not forced) but it has a simple lock if it does catch his attention for a min. But is easy enough for him to work with the simple drop in & not touching anything but the foot pedal. My 1 complaint is that it does smell for a second when you drop a diaper in & especially when that door gets opened for changing the liner out. I got the tiny little munchkin arm & Hammer stay fresh pack. They are small enough to fit in by the liner. I also soak it in a super hot bathtub filled with borax & Oxi Clean for odors every other weekend.

Great for cloth diapers!
Whenever I saw someone write a review about it not being great for cloth diapers I was nervous about buying this. I went ahead and bought it and it’s so much nicer than a diaper genie! I love that you can open it up at the bottom.

Clean, Simple and Easy to use
I’ve been using this product for my 5 month old son who poops in a Dyper once or twice a day. So it fits about 30-40 diapers. I appreciate the ease of dropping the diaper through the shoot without having to push down. I don’t use the locking feature that keeps the shoot from pressing down at this time. I also like the simple Cut and Tie with the sharp taser conveniently located. This saves us a lot of garbage bags. Every inch of the liner is used. Also I didn’t know this product comes with bags installed, which was a nice surprise. I would never go back to a regular garbage container. This is a great buy!

The ONLY diaper disposal you need!
This is the best diaper disposal I have purchased yet! We also tried the Munchkin and two types of Genie’s and this is by far the best product of all! I love how easy it is to step on the bottom lever, drop the diaper into the door (no putting your hands in the stinky diaper space) and it’s over! I will recommend this product to everyone I know with babies! I cannot comment yet on the stink factor because I got this yesterday but LOVE it already!!! I want to buy two more just for the ease of disposal! Way to go, DEKOR.

Better than diaper genie
As others have said this is so much better than the diaper genie. We bought the diaper genie but it wasn’t the same as the version we had from a few years ago so we returned it. This is much better than the genie.

Contains smelly diapers really well. Bags are so easy
I have two pails which I have been using for 2 years. I use one for pee in the bedroom and one for poo in the bathroom. Pee has no smell. The poo initially had no smell except for a quick waft once you open. I change every few days. After using the poo pail for a while I do find you need to let it air out and deodorize (the longer the better). I find myself otherwise smelling the poo if i bend my head down to open a drawer or something, then i will suddenly catch a bit of a poo smell. I have a sensitive nose and reallllly hate any lingering smell permeating. Gross. If anyone is curious I also used this pail for my cats before my child was born. Cat urine and poo is so incredibly stinky. The pail did an okay job but once the weather got hot I found the smell permeating and it was unbearable. I let the pail air out outside for a few days and deodorized/sanitized and the smell went away. The same pail I later used for my sons poo diapers with no lingering cat smells. So I think if you periodically clean and air out your dekor pail it will serve you well! Also. Love the bags. Soooo easy. Who wants to shove their hand in some suctioned poopy bag? No thank you. Highly recommend this pail!

Good
I run a daycare and I bought this diaper holder as I needed something bigger then the diaper genie I had. This works well enough. It fits a days worth of diapers for 5 kids. I do change the bag every day… It’s not very good at containing the smell smell. I end up putting it outside my back sliding door half way through the day after a few kids have pooped. Then I just open the door every time I do a round of diaper changes… it works, but the smell is rough. Might not be so bad if your just using it for 1-2 kids.

Does NOT Work With Cloth Diapers
I am writing this review specifically from the perspective of a cloth diaper user. I am sure this works great for disposables, but the claim that it's 'compatible' with cloth diapers is false, and frankly a little infuriating. Short version: if you are using any kind of cloth diapering system, avoid this and just get a larger normal waste bin with a foot pedal. There isn't a single diaper pail on Amazon that works conveniently for cloth diapers, and any inconvenience you'll experience from not having a 2-lid system to keep in the stink, doesn't come close to the convenience of ACTUALLY having a pail that works for cloth diapers. I know this is a crappy reality (mind the pun) but a larger (taller AND wider) waste bin is your only option. Maybe find some sort of odour spray remover and pray it works, or just make sure the waste bin's lid is super tight so that the stink only comes out for the few seconds you open it to toss another reusable in. This is the best advice you will ever receive, I promise you. --------- Long version: When you use cloth diapers everything is thicker, heavier, and bulkier. Not just the diapers, but the inserts that go inside of them, the diaper bag that goes into the pail, cotton prefold towels you put the baby on top of while changing them, and any reusable cloth wipes you might use (instead of 'flushable' disposable wipes). All in all, if you tried to compare the "stuff" you'd put into this pail between disposables vs reusables, a single reusable diaper+wipes+prefolds+inserts is roughly 3-5x as much bulk as a single disposable. So after all is said and done, this pail will become full after about 7-10 cloth diaper+wipes+prefolds+inserts depending on your brand/system. Are you changing your baby every 2-3 waking hours? Because of so your diaper pail is full after maybe 24 hours if you're lucky. So, no matter what you need spend money on a second bag, and taking it the full one daily. Maybe you'll wait for both to get full to do a single wash, but the pail's size does not lend well for cloth diapers. This also means the opening where you remove and put in the diaper bag is too small for a bulky thick cloth diaper bag. It just isn't an easy size to replace conveniently. Then there is the 3 lid system. This thing has 3 "flaps" or lids, whatever you want to call them. There is the top thin lid, that is foot-pedal operated. Then there is a tiny lid or mouth in the middle that is kind of like a lip, that you toss the diaper through (and it flaps open and closed on a spring). And then you have the main larger lid that pops up the entire thing so you can take out a bag and put in a new one. Let's go through them: 1) Once you step on the foot pedal to raise the thin lid up, the little lip/lid inside that lets you toss a diaper in is spring loaded, so that it flaps down during a diaper toss, then flaps back up. But, when you're using cloth diapers the bulk fills up so fast that eventually that lip can't flap down anymore because there are diapers in the way. So really, the clearance for that lip/lid to open/close must always remain diaper free, so you can't even FILL up your diaper pail to capacity before you have to remove it. So right off the bat, the claims of the dimensions of this thing is a lie because you can't even fill it to capacity before removing the bag. 2) The larger main lid is utterly horrible. The one you pull up completely to replace the diaper bag with a new one. Because this larger main lid doesn't stay up on it's own, you have to constantly hold it up with one hand and try to get the bag into the pail with the other. And because you chose cloth diapers the diaper bag you're putting in is thick and bulky so it's just a constant challenge. And you will be annoyed by this. Every. Single. Day. Oh right, and there's a screaming baby too. 3) The thin lid that is foot-pedal operated is mostly fine, except when your diaper bag starts to get full. Because of the weight of a full diaper bag inside the pail, it rests inside the pail. This added weight sometimes prevents the top lid from coming back down once your foot is off the pedal. So that lid will just stay 'open' the fuller your bag gets. Sometimes you can use your hand and push it back down and it'll stay, but other times if the bag is sitting on its mechanism just right, it'll flip right back up again. Stupid. The worst about all this is by the time you realize all of this, you are so deeply stuck in using the pail that there's no hope to return it so you're either stuck hating it for entirety of your diaper-life, or you throw cash in the garbage by getting something else instead. I think whoever made this just like every other disposable diaper pail company said "hey, its a bin you throw stuff in, let's advertise it as cloth diapers too" without any proper testing to verify the claims. So I will tell you - diaper pails are not big enough to handle reusable cloth diapers. Unless you find a magical one made in the mountain tops of Mars sold for 800 bucks, get a waste bin instead that holds in odours while the lid is down. I promise, promise, promise you...it's your best and only option. Stay away from this crap and products like it that lie about their cloth diaper support. Don't waste money like I did on a tiny plastic bucket that was supposed to make your life easier but instead frustrate you for years.

Great product. You won’t be disappointed.
Great pails. I love dekor pails and have been using them for two babies now. My last Pail lasted five years before the clip broke and I replaced with another pail. The old Pail is still useful for garbage or what not. I used this for disposables at the start and then for cloth diapering. I can almost fit three days worth of pocket diapers in there. Last day I just use a wet bag for whatever won’t fit before wash time. No big deal as when baby is older she will go through less diapers. Probably fits about 18 to 20 pocket diapers and inserts. Contains smell very well. I even have a smaller version of this Pail in the bathroom that I use for disposable wipes and cloth liners. The step and drop doesn’t work for me. I have to push my diaper in a bit but it doesn’t bother me. The disposable bag system it comes with is amazing for disposables. Highly recommend.

Goodbye stinky diaper smell!
Looks nice, works great (no longer smell the dirty diapers and there are sooo many). Love that can use regular garbage bags and use as a regular garbage can after. Only thing is that there was a brochure on the top of the diaper pail and it left red ink stains but that does not affect the function so I'm ok with it but would suggest manufacturer not place brochures on the top since ink transfers, maybe put them outside the plastic bag the pail comes in.
