Inside is not glazed. Effectively useless for mixing home made paint and pigment..
I should have read the reviews. It is not glazed inside. So, when I use it for mixing paint (the old-school way,) it absorbs the pigment. Which is impossible to fully clean out afterwards. So I can no longer use it for any other pigment. Guess I will keep it for red paint making. Then find one more suitable for my needs. I can see why they chose not to glaze. If it were glazed, larger objects might just pop out the side and not actually smash. It is a great little guy if color doesn't matter though. I could see it doing a great job in lots of other situations.

Perfect for our uses.
I bought this for my wife to grind spices and herbs. We already have a granite molcajete which is quite dimpled and always a production to use. Makes killer guac, but it's not really the thing for grinding salt to a powder, say. We didn't want another heavy mortar, say of marble, in our kitchen and i don't really trust the sturdiness of wooden mortars (nor at this point do I necessarily trust the finishing of the wood to be foodsafe). This little guy was a terrific compromise. I should post a picture at some point as the most confusing aspect of buying this was figuring out just how big (and heavy) this guy would turn out to be. It ended up being perfect for us but I almost bought the one that was half this size. This is really fine for grinding a bit of pepper, salt or some herbs a bit at a time. My one gripe is that the internal shape of the mortar has edges so the pestle doesn't exactly crush everywhere, but it still works fine enough.

Good value no frills M&P, easy to clean
The M&P was packaged well and arrived without damage. I use this to grind up resin incense and it does a great job. The inside of the mortar and the tip of the pestle have a coarse finish, which assists in grinding. You do not want a smooth grinding surface unless for very specific applications. I thought I stained it very badly after my first use, but it was easy to clean. Soak over night with hot tap water (not boiling) and a few drops of dawn dish soap. This should work for all non hazardous materials. I took off one star because the United logo is crooked about 5 degrees, and I really liked the logo in the pictures.

Does the job
The only major downside is that the interior is not glazed. This makes it impossible to remove all of the pulverized contents. For my purposes, this can be solved by adding a bit of water. Both parts are also quite heavy and breakable.

Perfect!!
Came fast and very well packed!! Beautiful set, will work out perfectly for my needs which are mostly for grinding up our dogs pills. Neither of our fur babies like to swallow their meds so the vet said grind them up and mix with a little food, works like a charm and this Morter and Pestle set will be a huge help in the process! The outside is glazed and inside is not, it was meant to be that way. I noted in other reviews some spoke of that, my old Morter and Pestle set were the same way but that set broke while moving. Happy to finally have this new set!

Glazed or Not glazed? Not sure I like this.
I thought this would be glazed inside and out. But reading the reviews it looks like one person received theirs like I did with no glaze inside and one received it with glaze inside. I wanted it glazed and thought that's how it would come. It feels weird trying to grind up pills with the porous inner surface. I don't want meds rubbing off into other meds I am also worried about staining it now too :( Sellers should show more detailed pictures and describe this better!!

Great for grinding spices
I bought this mortar & pestle because it was less expensive than the one in the cooking department, but it is the exact same thing. For my purposes, it works great. I saw on some other reviews that the chief complaint was that the bottom of the mortar is not polished and therefore gets discolored by whatever you grind in it. For me, this would only be a problem if the flavor of the previously ground spice remained, but it doesn't. I find that the rougher texture of the bottom of the mortar helps grinds spices faster.

Love it but it!!
This is my ride or die for making my colored acrylic powders 10/10 recommend it's made it so much more enjoyable to make my powders. It does stain BUT it doesn't mess with the next colors in my experience. I clean with alcohol between each color but I've ever just wiped it out with a paper towel and moved on to the next color and I've never had an issue. I really like the inside being "unfinished" or gritty and the pestle is also unfinished on the grinding part. Makes it very easy to grind
