Don't use this as a gas can...

This is designed and intended to work as a fuel tank for a small boat, but it does not come with the hose or fittings to mount the fuel line to. So, if you are like me, and wanted to have a large, spare tank of fuel for traveling across the country during various natural and man-made disasters, you might think that a large, flat tank that can fit underneath a tonneau cover seems like a great idea; the ideal way to skip outrageous fuel prices in Illinois...but! Because this is lacking any fuel line, it only comes with a red plug on the fuel line fitting thread, and there's a feed tube inside which reaches the bottom of the tank. When the fuel expands in the heat, this tank will SPRAY fuel out past that little plug, which is not a seal. Everything in the back of your truck will stink strongly of gasoline for weeks thereafter. Use as directed. Get a hose fitting (I used one for an air compressor that allowed me to attach a nylon tube and a CUTOFF SWITCH) and now it works great. They should sell it with a seal of some kind, like a plastic bolt or an installed brass cutoff from the factory, and because they don't, I give it 3 stars. It is a better design than my 14 gallon stand up wheeled fuel tank, which leaves 2-2.5 gallons inaccessibly inside. This one will drain every drop (into your truck bed).

Fits on small skiffs with low profile storage areas

Was able to reinstall tubing connector parts from my 6 gallon factory gas tank to this one to make it work seamlessly. It fit in the same area as my 6 gallon tank

Potentially dangerous as it leaks when pressurized (natural heating of the ambient air)

This product needs and effective vent to allow for expansion. When the cap is tight and the tank warms up due to ambient air temperature changes fuel is forced out of the gasket around the level indicator as the tank does not vent the extra pressure. I have stop counting the amount of times I have had fuel in my truck bed as a result of me forgetting to leave the filler cap loose. I cannot recommend this product.

Quality of tank

Very happy with product. However not happy with treatment re return of 1- 6 gal tank which I attempted to replace with this 12-gal one(I kept the 2nd 6-gal tank). So now I have one 12 gal and two 6 gal fuel tanks, which I don't need. It's unacceptable that having purchased two of their tanks, they demand that I ship back the extra 6 gal tank at my cost and will charge me a restocking fee. This is not typical Amazon behavior.
