The screws are still too long.
10 years of reviews here complaining about the screws and they are still too long and hit the rollers. The product works great otherwise though, just plan to trim them or use different screws. I used safety wire to make a leash for the plate so it won't walk away if it happens to pop off the rollers. It's a nice snug fit on a Warn roller fairlead though, and hasn't popped off yet.

Great License Plate Mount
Great Mount. VERY solid. I had the same problem as everyone else as the bolts were WAY too long and hit the rollers preventing it from seating in a locked position. I called the company. They were unaware of the problem but after a few minutes they called me back and stated they pulled one from inventory and in fact the bolts are too long. They are apparently working on a fix....shorter bolts. They sent me shorter bolts Free Of Charge. I added a small aircraft cable (about 2 feet) with crimp connectors to mine.... cable that I picked up at my local hardware store....One end of the cable on the plate holder through a hole and the other looped through a hole on my winch mount. You can remove it to winch but not run off with it. This is strictly a "theft fix with limitations" but I figured it would prevent most "kids" from screwing with it and quickly taking it. Now with a few modifications it holds great and hasn't been stolen for over a year! I highly recommend it.

Could be better
I like the concept of this license plate holder, but it has some flaws. First is the bolts that hold the clips that attach to the fairlead, they're too long and don't allow the clips to go all the way on to the fairlead. Not really sure why the don't come spot welded on, or something like that. Shorter bolts do take care of that issue though. Also I'd recommend getting a small cable to tether the plate holder to the winch. This way if it does pop off you won't lose it. I used a small cable about 1/8 in diameter and 6" long and attached it from one of the bolts on the holder to a bolt on the fairlead. Plus with the tether you can let it hang when using the winch and not have to worry about losing it. Those are the two complaints I have about it. I would buy it again, just would like to have seen a little more thought go into the design. Especially considering that if you use the bolts that come with the holder it makes it easy for it to fall off. Also the tether helps stop people from being able to simply pop it off the winch and steal it.

A decent solution for the fairlead
On the overall, the product seems to be workable. There are three issues that I've noticed: 1 - I've got a Smittybilt XRC10K and my fairlead rollers are slightly narrower than the holes that were predrilled, so I had to redrill them to make it work. With other fairleads, this may not be an issue. 2 - Another small problem is that the bolts that hold the clips to the plate are a tad bit too long and contact the rollers. This will lead to some scratches on the rollers themselves. Not a world-ender, but just a silly thing that shouldn't happen. 3 - One of the mounts for the license plate itself (some thick spacers) has come loose. They appear to just be knurled on that end and press fit and it just came out. It hasn't stopped me from being able to use the thing, but it's annoying. However, since this is one of those things that you set up once and don't change out that often, if ever, it's still workable. I've put well over a thousand miles on the Xterra since I've installed it and it's still out there, so it is fulfilling it's main function.

This works wonderfully. I would have given five stars but the ...
After applying a winch on my '04 wrangler, I needed somewhere to place the front license plate. This works wonderfully. I would have given five stars but the screws used to attach are around twice the length as they should be. This causes the screws to hit the fairlead bar and the clips do not fully engage the bars. I ended up grinding the screws down quite a bit to solve this issue. Although this will give you another reason to break out the power tools. Overall, I would recommend this item and I don't think you'll regret the purchase if you want to place your plate on the front of the winch fairlead.

License Plate Bracket - shorter clamp bolts and a safety cable wire would make this product perfect
Rugged Ridge license plate bracket for roller lead is a good product. I made two modifications I felt were necessary to make this product near perfect. I mods I made were to 1) trim off the long bolts that connect the roller clamps to the license plate holder to allow for the clamps to fully seat on the roller leads and 2) I drilled a hole in the license plate holder and mounted a thin cable wire from the license plate bracket to the winch so I wouldn't lose my license plate if it became detached from the roller leads.

Nice but needs modification.
I liked the overall design and materials used. However the mounting holes for the clips had to be moved in 3/8" on both sides. Their spacing is 9" center to center. My roller fairlead (which came with my Rugged Ridge Winch) is 8 1/4" center to center. Also, the #10x1" bolts were too long and prevented the clips from going all the way onto the rollers. Shorter bolts solved this problem. It now fits well, looks good and should keep me from getting pulled over (again) for no front plate.

Awesome. Very sturdy and tight
Wow. I bought my Land Cruiser and it had no front plate. A big no-no here in California. Don't want to get pulled over for no reason. I got new plates and then tried to figure how to mount my plate on my TJM winch bumper. Well I came aross this winch plate adapter and love it. Doesn't go on easy which is good. Ultra secure. I have a Superwinch and the longish bolts were perfect for me. Yeah they tough the fairleads but it keeps tight and secure. I think it's a pretty high quality winch plate. Love it. If you need one buy this one.

Lost in the woods
You will lose this, it will fall off.save yourself the hassle and get a hinged design one or just screw the plate to your bumper.
