This is a Very Good Fan
My search for a quiet fan led me, finally, to this fan. It was the only one that really claimed to be very quiet. Mission accomplished. On the lowest setting, I can watch something while others are sleeping. The fan sound, at 35 dB, is not an issue. I have it near my head, and don't hear anything. My hearing is quite excellent, thank you very much. It does get louder as air movement increases; but it is not a roaring, rattling sound. It is the sound that is made by moving air, not the sound of poorly designed machinery. Air movement is beyond criticism. The fan looks much better than I thought it would. I could easily write ten pages on the virtues of this fan; but others have written many long reviews. You have to like something a lot or to hate it to write a long review. Negative reviews for this fan fall into several categories for me. Unrealistic expectations is my first choice. If you want something that you can knock around, use in the garage, and abuse; or if you like to ignore instructions, this is not the fan for you. Maybe Harbor Freight has something cheap, heavy, and old-tech with a large dose of unreliability that can work for you. If you are not good at reading instructions, or are in a hurry, or are under the influence, or assemble things by slapping them together, you will do yourself a favor by letting someone else assemble the fan for you. It really is easy; but you will do best if you have the touch. Yes, it is easy to break the small parts if you are not careful. Frankly, the weakest point of the fan is the instructions, both for assembly and operation; but if you slow down and read them carefully, and think it through, they are adequate. If you insist on moving the fan around without regard to its construction, do not be surprised if it does not hold up. I am talking to the folks who buy fine glassware and end up with most of it broken after a few years. This fan is a technical achievement. You take care of it like you do anything of value. Some people have a vinyl or CD collection that looks like new after many years. This is the fan for those people. Some folks use their music collection as frisbees, coasters, Salvador Dali models, and random floor decorations. This is not the fan for them. someone criticized the fan because the mount broke. If you move it around, hold the handle and also hold the base upright rod that the fan mounts to. The base is very heavy for a reason. The second weak point of the fan is that it should not be moved around a lot by simply picking it up by the handle. This applies only to the floor model. I can't speak for the desktop model. Just support it carefully like you would anything else of value that you own. The concept should not be revolutionary; but some folks think that a fan can be hauled around like a toolbox. Some can; but you can usually hear them running in the other room. The control panel on the fan deserves special mention. It is intuitive, effective, beautiful, and easy to see and manipulate. The unusual angle is actually easy to fall in love with for its looks and functionality. I, as a person who embraces the technological achievements of recent years, do not have a problem with LED lights. The very well-designed set on this control panel seems quite appropriate to me. If you can't stand light, you have options; but don't expect the rest of the world to miss out on the benefits of great design because you haven't figured out how to get to sleep. If you are going to have a pillow fight or a wild party, put the fan in a safe place. It is not designed to the standards of a soccer net. As an industrial engineer and an electronics hobbyist, I appreciate this fan for many other reasons; but I don't want this review to become a tome. I will say that I purchased it as much out of curiosity as out of hope that it might actually meet expectations. The German design gave me confidence. A few hours after a flawless assembly process, thorough testing, and evaluation, I ordered another one. When I saw that the price had dropped significantly, I changed my order quantity to two. Somebody actually complained about a price decrease in one of the reviews. This fan, according to the instructions is not for extremely humid locations. They also say to use a dry cloth to clean it. Based on some complaints about a rusty protective grid, that seems like sound advice. Final note: disassembly for cleaning. I see no reason why disassembly should result in damage to the cage or the plastic ring that holds it together, or to the rather delicate plastic attachment hardware. When you clean your stemware, it requires more careful handling than your coffee mug. This fan will not weather the process like one of the other cheap fans that are available everywhere. On the other hand, it is not as difficult and delicate as tying fishing flies or handling rare stamps.

Best brand of fan I have ever owned;however..
I have owned several Rowenta products when I was living and working in Europe, Asia and here in the US. Rowenta makes wonderful products and this fan is a very well made, quiet piece of equipment as it should be for the price. I have seen several comments from reviewers here on Amazon who seem to be disappointed regarding the enclosed setup instructions being poor with only pictures but one does not have to be a mechanical engineer to put this unit together as it is very easy to assemble even without written instructions. So for the most part this is a quality unit and that is why it baffles me why Rowenta would ever match this unit with probably the cheapest remote I have ever seen outside of some I have with very low cost electronics add on that I have purchased. I know it seems silly to focus on the remote but since I use the remote exclusively to operate the fan and considering the price of the fan I would have expected a high quality remote that doesn't look it will hold up very long and hate to think of if falls on the tile floor. Then to top that off, Rowenta didn't even supply the watch battery that it uses. SO on a $120 fan with a cheap remote they can't even provide a battery? I don't get the thinking at Rowenta! Bottom line, I was going to give 5 starts all the way as a fan but just because of the terribly cheap remote, I think 4 stars is fair.

Very Quiet and Strong
Happy to see they still make it.... saw it years ago but did not need it then... just as like yesterday everything was good except the sleep mode does not move enough air...

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION STILL LIVES UP TO CLAIM
03 April 2023: This is an unsolicited, uncompensated 2nd review of the Rowenta VU2660 3-speed Table Fan with Remote Control. I last reviewed this same item on May 5, 2022. As before, I still rate the product with 5 stars for its quality and performance. Today we placed an order with amazon for our second fan. I am pleasantly surprised to see that the fan now costs about 10 dollars less than a year ago. Today also marks the day that we performed our first cleaning of this fan. As other owners have mentioned, it is relatively easy to use a Philips screw driver to loosen the one screw that holds the plastic band that keeps the front and rear grill cages together. Next, like most similar fans from other manufacturers, there is a knob with a reverse thread which holds the fan blade to the motor shaft. This is rotated CLOCKWISE to release the blade. Then, there is the plastic knob (with a 'normal' thread) that is turned COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to release the rear grill from the motor housing. After cleaned the blade and grills, it was time to re-assemble the fan. Now here is where things got frustrating. After attaching the rear grill and placing the blade back on the motor shaft, it was time to align the rear and front grills and place the plastic outer ring around them. All this while trying to screw the two ends of the plastic ring with the one Philips screw. This seemingly simple procedure requires three hands, and a lot of patience. Virtually every other table fan that I have owned utilized simple clips on the outer ring of the front grill, making it easy to align the two grills. The manufacturer of this fan should re-think their design and do away with the plastic band with the single screw. Aside from the re-assembly fiasco, this is still a great fan and highly recommended. My previous review is shown here: Purchased this product from amazon to replace a similar table fan, which had failed after about 20 years of use. For convenience, we sought out a replacement fan that included remote control capability. There were not many choices to choose from in this fan size. This fan, like the one it is replacing, will be used in our bedroom. It will be convenient to remotely control this fan from the comfort of our bed. To comment on other reviewers' comments: (1) the fan does require some assembly, but nothing beyond the skill of most people. The only problem encountered was with the single screw for tightening the front grill. It was difficult to turn at first, and it took a few twists to loosen up the threads. (2) some reviewers felt that the beeping sound was too loud when the functions were changed. One reviewer suggested pulling out the circuit board to disconnect the speaker. Personally I did not find the beeps too loud or annoying in any way. (3) Other reviewers complained that the retail price was too high. In many cases you get what you pay for. Yes, the fan contains a lot of plastic, but the motor housing is heavy and robust and appears to be of high quality. This fan claims to be "The Most Powerful, Quietest Fan" and I can readily attest to the validity of this claim. This fan is highly recommended for anyone needing a quality small table fan with the convenience of remote control capability.

Silent and cool
Very happy with this fan purchase. Well with the money. We have bought other expensive fans and we’re still noisy. This fan is very quiet and still cools the room on low. We had it higher and it still was quiet.

Nice fan
This is a nice looking, reasonably well built, quiet DC motor fan. It comes well packaged, the box was completely flattened at one end when it arrived but the fan was still fine. There are many reviews that state the fan is impossible to assemble -those people must be blind, clueless and very clumsy because this fan was incredibly simple to put together in a couple minutes. ( even without instructions or prior experience.) I've had one for about 6 months, it's been running 24/7 with no problems and still very little noise. This fan only moves a small amount of air at it's quietest, lowest setting, like a light breeze but it's perfect for sleeping. At the highest setting it moves a lot of air and is commensurately louder -but still not as loud as some others. The beeping is a bit loud/aggravating when you change speeds or use the remote but I can live with that. I've just purchased another one and it works just as well as the first. There are a wide range of prices, from about $100 - $175 for this unit. I got mine for $100 each, I'm not sure that I would pay $175. I have plenty of CR2032 batteries laying around so the fact that the remote didn't come with a battery is no big deal for me. I will likely buy another one the next time they're on sale. Added information July 7.2022: -After using the fan at it's quietest setting in a very quiet location (my bedroom) I discovered that it emits a slight hum and minor motor noise.

Worst product, Chinese are better.
The moment I switched it on after assembling, it linked off with a big noise. Wwaited long for the product, and faced huge disappointment after spending so much.

Expensive but worth the cost
Took about a week to arrive from USA. Why these aren't available here in UK (shipped and meant for UK) I'll never know. Setting it up was a doddle and the remote is a bonus I never thought I'd appreciate but do. Very quiet, even on low speed setting (not Silent Night) and very suitable for watching TV and sleeping. The key thing to know that they don't tell you is that the fan is built for US market and therefore operates on 110 Volts AC. Plug it straight in to 240 volt supply and you'll probably have fireworks concluding with a dead fan. Buy a cheap and quiet step down transformer anf Bob's your Uncle. Was unable to find one with silent running here other than this and while it was expensive, I'm happy.

Quietest Fan W/ Very Strong Breeze
I bought this fan specifically because I like to have a breeze blowing over me while I sleep, but I don't care for the noise of most fans. This one is very quiet like it claims, however not as quiet as I expected. It is definitely the quietest I've ever seen or heard, but if you're expecting it to be silent then you're out of luck. Unfortunately, it is impossible to move lots of air without causing noise. I use the second setting as it is strong enough and keeps the noise at a minimum. The first setting is much quieter, but I find it doesn't provide a strong enough breeze. At full blast (turbo) it is extremely powerful, produces a very strong wind, but also makes it much louder. I digress, the construction of it is fantastic, it doesn't feel cheap and feels solidly built. The materials all look high quality, and the assembly is extremely easy. One downside is that the instructions are not very easy to follow, but you can easily figure out how to put it together even without the isntructions. All in all, very good product and I highly recommend.

Simply The Best Stand Fan You Can Currently Buy
I did not get paid or receive anything for my review. I did not purchase my Rowenta stand fan from Amazon.ca because the price at Amazon.ca at that time was $165. and it was on sale at another online venue for almost the same price that Amazon.ca currently now has it listed for ( Under $100. ) . Over the past 50 years I have purchased several fans and simply put, this is by far the very best fan I have ever purchased to this date. The silent mode is super silent and is the lowest speed but still creates a sufficient air flow. The turbo speed is super fast and is substantially loud but not as loud as other 16 inch fans I have owned and it puts out volumes of air on this setting. The cosmetics and style of this unit are absolutely elegant and beautiful. The fan grills and name plate are chrome highlighted by the baby blue transparent plastic fan blades with black and silver accents being the over all theme of the stand. It oscillates nicely and the oscillation can be turned off or on with a push or a pull of a knob located on the motor housing and the power cord has a nice length. There are no annoying vibrations anywhere on this fan. It has a countdown timer that you can set that will turn the fan off in either 1 or 2 or 4 or 8 hours. There is also an energy saving mode that when enabled gradually reduces the fan speed over the course of time. The remote is a very tiny and almost a duplicate of the button layout on the stand and it functions perfectly and uses a round 2032 battery ( Note: ) The Battery is Not supplied. Best Buy is the Energizer 2032 - 4 Pack for approximately $12.97 at several venues. The round 2032 batteries are required for most garage door opener remotes and most automobile Key Fobs. The buttons on the fan console light up when selected but unfortunately the remote buttons have no backlight. This is a quality plus stand fan that looks super great and is suitable for either the bedroom or the living room or the office. There is also a table model available for about $90. at Amazon.ca I hope you enjoyed my review and it was helpful. UPDATE: Feb 27th, 2018. I recently purchased a second Rowenta VU5670US 16 inch pedestal fan from Amazon.ca for $99.96 and the quality is identical to my first purchase. It should be noted that it states on the Amazon.ca website that the fan is a BRONZE colour, but in actuality it is the very same colour as my first purchase and is an elegant silver and black combination as described above and as shown in the Amazon.ca description photo.
