Bought 2 - last minute gifts - they both work great! Perfect for teenagers! UPDATES...
I ordered last minute (4 days before Christmas) and they hurried to get it to my door on the 23rd! We bought 2 of these - one for each of our boys. So far they are working perfectly, and the boys love them! Thank you so much! They love the funky flames (looks like lava - very cool to teenagers), and I really like the safety feature on the bottom. If the unit tips over it shuts itself off. A+! Update 3-6-15 ------------ Still going strong! Both are still working perfectly. No issues at all. One of my sons tripped on the cord running through his room (wrassling with his older Brother. Teenagers - tsk) and the cord yanked out of the wall - the unit a wrecking ball across the room. It hit a table - the corner of the closet - and rolled into the foot-board of his bed at mach 10. That little heater started right up without a single mark on it. Incredibly sturdy. Not so much for the closet or foot board...nice permanent dings in the wood trim/wood panel. :p UPDATE 12-24-15 ------- One of the heaters broke tonight. The one that wasn't the wrecking ball from the March update. It was working fine this morning and early afternoon (as it always has). We left for 5 hours for Christmas Eve at relatives, came home and it might be a goner. Closed room - nothing to compromise the heater - no one was home. We came home less than an hour ago and my son started it up. First turn on the switch - the unit comes on - the lights come on - but the unit sounds nothing like it usually does and virtually no heat emits. Turned it up to the second and/or third switch - the whole unit shuts off. No heat - no lights. Fiddled with it for a bit but it's late and it's Christmas. We will work on it to see if we can get it running again, fingers crossed we will be able to. It's colder than eek! now - so I just ordered a third one (cheaper than when I bought the first 2) with rush delivery. I still give it 5 stars as these cheap little units run in the winter daily (sometimes all day) and have had no issues until now. Of course they are stored in the spring and summer/early fall. They should last with normal use way longer than this. Will check it and update if we find anything... UPDATE 1-3-2016 -- Happy New Year! We bought a third unit that same night (above), which is currently in use. We fiddled with the broken one, but couldn't find a reason why it would suddenly stop working. The day the replacement arrived (on time as promised by Amazon), my son tried the broken unit one more time to see if it would work. Lo and behold - it started up! Of course it would! It seems to work fine now, but I don't trust it. We tagged it and stored it in the basement for now. By the way - the new one was cheaper than when I'd bought the first two the year before. Perhaps it's because it is an older model/design? Or maybe it was just 'the Amazon cycle' - when Amazon toys with prices. I don't know...but I paid roughly $5 less than the year prior. One more thing. My son started the new one when I was there with him. It 'squealed' for a second then started up. I looked at my son with a "what was that?!" look - and he said the old one did it too. I turned it on and off a few times - sure enough - it squealed before the heat came on. I checked our other unit that my other son uses (the March unit - see above) and it does it too. I think it's weird - I don't remember hearing it before, but it does seem to be the way the units are made. Update 12-31-20 Well - the March bangaroo unit was finally retired a few weeks ago. I was in my youngest son's room cleaning up and went to dust the heater and noticed he'd put duct tape over the back vent (I'm rolling my eyes right now). I asked him why is this duct taped? He said he'd accidentally kicked it (not on at the time) in a heated video game match and it fell over so he thought he'd use it for a foot rest for a little bit and poked his toe through the plastic fan vent holes. LOL! So he "fixed it" with gorilla tape :p (this event happened about 6 months prior to me finding it). Once again a safety issue - I took it and replaced it with a newer metal version. This one still works without issue but thought it best to just upgrade to a new one. Still 5 stars! It's demise was through no fault of it's own...

Produces plenty of heat for a small room, but it's sort of noisy.
I live in a crappy apartment that only has a wall unit that faces a single room (unlike most others that face the rooms on either side of a wall). I got tired of freezing in my bedroom so I wanted to a cheap solution that might look nice, so I got this after reading the reviews. Performance wise it produces. I have about a 12'x12' bedroom and it's keeps it plenty warm on low when it's a 45 degree day. The fact it works so well on low I'm hoping it will actually save me money on my utility bill as I won't have to crank up the gas heater. Design wise, it's okay. It's a small box with a generic fire affect and is mostly plastic with some metal siding. The fire affect is actually better than I thought it would be but still not overly realistic. Heat is generated from the bottom in a slightly upward angle going straight out. This allowed me to put it under a cheapo $5 Ikea/Walmart end table without worrying about it melting the hollow plastic legs. No heat is generated from the sides, top or back and it is safe to tough those sides as well. It also has the safety feature of automatically turning off if knocked over. Negatives: The only real negative is that it's sort of noisy. This doesn't bother me much as I'm the type of person that has to sleep with white noise anyways such as a small fan, but if you sleep in near silence then you're going have to turn in off or wear ear plugs. The weird thing however is that it even makes noises when it set to just a fire effect with no heat. You don't hear the fan but there still a pulsing humming/vibrating noise the repeats continuously. I think It's due to the flame effect being some type of looping image and that the pulley used for it is low quality and/or wasn't lubricated well. A disappointment but then again, for $35.00 it's not surprising. As long as this last at least a couple winters I would strongly recomand this to anyone who needs heating in a small room while on a tight budget, who doesn't want a plain, boring black or white heater and who is also not sensitive to sound.

A big surptise in a small package! Grab one!
This is an astonishingly good little heater, especially for the modest price. I got it a week ago, because we were set to have an unusually cold snap for Kansas at this time of year. I also had to completely shut off my gas furnace, because it's shot and starting to seep CO into the house. So right now, no primary heating source, 15-degree nights, in a poorly insulated, 90-year-old money pit with single pane windows so drafty I thought they were screens. This heater got right to work, along with my Lasko oscillating tower fan (kind of a disappointment, btw). The heating element get's HOT, and it has an unusually powerful fan that actually pushes a convincing amout of warm air about six feet into a very cold, drafty, 500 sq ft room with 10' ceilings. Amazing for a motor that maxes out at just 1200 watts. And, no, it will not heat that entire space. But between it and the Lasko, I can quickly create a comfortable zone of warmth around myself that expands pretty quickly. It's not very noisy - about like a mid- sized fan you set on medium during hot nights. White, noise, really. I just ordered two more this morning. Given my experience with this little guy, I am really starting to wonder why some manufacturers of much pricier units equip them with those wortheless, anemic little fans that guarantee disappointment? If you need excellent and rapid small-space heating, even under adverse conditions, BUY one of these - you will be very pleased with the results!
