Life-saving!
My mom’s carbon monoxide detector in the middle of her house (dining room) went off earlier this month - same brand as this but an older model (without digital display). We opened windows and the front door and sat by the door. We felt fine and had no symptoms of carbon monoxide affecting us. I checked the detector batteries and they were fine. We got her second detector (same model) from her bedroom and it didn’t alert us of any problem. My husband brought our detector - with a digital display - to her house. It quickly started going up and went to a max of 64, then came down to 38. We called the fire department and they found some scattered elevated carbon monoxide readings, but couldn’t figure out why. We didn’t want to go to a hotel and they didn’t want us to stay there with the gas on. We said we could make it without heat or hot water overnight, so they went outside to turn off the gas. They suggested calling our gas company in the morning to request an appointment for them to check it further with more advanced meters. I decided to call our gas company then (about 2:30am) to leave a message. I explained the situation to an employee who said “We consider this an emergency and will come right now”. AND, “If you have the fire department call us, there won’t be a charge”. I said “Hang on they’re still here!” – then ran outside and had the fire chief talk to her. Two gas company employees arrived a short time later. They checked the house carefully and felt the alarm may have been from cooking soup for about 2&1/2 hours without using the (over-the-stove) microwave vent… They had us open a couple windows and the door again for a half hour and then felt we would be ok staying there. The numbers on my sensor continued to fall and were back to zero before I went to sleep. The fire department and gas company employees checked our detectors and said they should be replaced because of their age. (I had already started researching them!) We narrowed it down to these and a similar Kidde with batteries which we would need to replace. The purchase price difference wasn’t significant and these will probably end up being cheaper since we won’t have to replace the batteries. They’ll also make life easier since we shouldn’t have to worry about them for 10 years! We ordered four for my mom and two for my house. It was easy to install the back piece, which activates the battery. All readings are zero!! I appreciate the constant numerical display, like I’m used to from my old detector. However, mine was a “plug-in” style and the numbers always glowed red, so it was very easy to read. My only negative comment about the new detectors is that the display isn’t backlit and the numbers don’t glow.

Effective CO monitor
CO monitors are supposed to be installed at least 5 feet from the floor. I was given a plug- in type, but I do not have any electric outlets that are 5 feet from the floor in my apartment. I placed this monitor on top of the molding over a closet door. No installation was necessary, it just sits there. No battery change necessary. It will last 10 years!

Good replacement for old wired device
Our old one was wired but had back battery, needed replacement after it triggered without reason. Expecting to have it for about 10 years Have it about 6 months now.

Low battery after 3 weeks of use!
10/‘22 - I’m upgrading my review because I contacted the company and they helped find a replacement CO detector that had a replaceable battery - the 10 year battery that failed on the previous model was not replaceable. They sent the replacement free of charge. My complaints: 1. why it didn’t have the quality control testing before it was sent out 2. They didn’t want it returned so now I have to tear it apart to dispose of it properly (lithium battery). Original review: I received this Kiddie CO detector model C310-D 7/19/22, turned it on 8/8/22 and today 9/2/22 it faulted and screen showed Lb (low battery). The 10 year battery lasted not quite one month! It Beeped for about a half hour and you can’t replace the battery ????, so I turned it upside down to quiet the beeping, then after about 5 minutes, I realized it wasn’t beeping - so looked at its screen, now no Lb fault on screen, yellow fault light was off and it acted perfectly fine. Except NOW I CANT TRUST IT TO WORK. We wanted this for intermittent use when camping - but there’s no off switch. I would have never bought it if I’d realized it didn’t have an off switch since that the battery could not be replaced. And - It was a pain to install as the screw holes didn’t match the previous product. Of course it’s past the return window by 2 weeks. BUYER BE WARE, maybe it’ll work and maybe not. And when it doesn’t work, it’s just another piece of plastic trash if the manufacturer won’t return it.

Doesn’t detect less than 15
So I knew this wouldn’t alert for less than 15, but I thought the screen would show readings for less than that. After reading the instructions it states that it will display 0 for any reading under 15. I still like that it’s more sensitive than a lot of detectors, but with a 1 year old I was hoping to be able to see if there was any amount at all in the house. My hvac repair company offers a hyper sensitive one for $200 and I guess I’ll just have to dish out for one of those if I want to detect really low amounts. So, overall I guess for the money this is a nice option.

Good for piece of mind.
I bought 6 of these for every room in the house. I recently had some work done on my gas furnace and wanted to make sure we were well aware ahead of time if there happened to be any CO leaks in to the house. Display is easy to read, buttons large and easy to actuate.
