Best DIY Transformation
I had a dining server that was passed down to me and was probably purchased in the 1970-1980s. Since it was in the family I didn’t want to just get rid of it since it is highly outdated, but also the word work is amazing and unfortunately they do not make furniture like this anymore. So I took a chance and said let me see if I can bring this piece up to date and make it modern. The hardware was a pain because they are a lot smaller holes than hardware that is made now. Therefore, I used some wood filler and sanded it down and made new holes for the hardware which was easy. I then painted the whole piece using this chalk paint. With a degreaser used first to clean, and then some light sanding, the paint went on with ease. It took about 2 coats of paint, with about 1-2 hours of drying in between and the piece looked brand new! I waited until the next day to add on the sealer, gave that about 24 hours to dry, added the hardware and now I have a brand new dining server! I also redid my dining room table! I chose the same gray to match, but painted the legs white and all I can saw is wow!!! Now I am constantly looking for furniture to revamp!

Love, love, love!!!
I have found a new favorite chalk paint!!! I have been looking for a chalk paint that covers well but comes in bright colors. I took a chance when I ordered this but I am in love!! The color on my phone is exactly the color that I received. It paints smoothly and is beautiful! I have already ordered more colors! Love it!!

AaammmaZing!!!!!
This was a great choice for my project!!! I am new to chalk paint and I’ve used another brand recently and it worked well, however didn’t have the color option I needed for this project. I came across this brand during my search and Sooo glad I did! I little goes a long way and it definitely does not require primer. However, I was going from a very dark to a light color and wanted the paint to really Stick! I sanded a little of the top of my nightstand (you don’t have to) but I did because my nightstand had residue of body oils and perfumes etc…very light minimal sanding and I wiped the whole thing down thoroughly with a little soapy dawn dish sip water to get rid of dust and Debris . Then I wiped it down again with just water…let it dry. I primed it with 1 coat nothing serious and began to paint with the Ivory tower!! Very beautiful color by the way, I let it dry and it was easy to use. Side note* I used a brush for all corners, feet, edges and a small roller for the top and sides. Then I remembered I saw a few YouTube videos that said a little water stretches it and makes it even more to spread. I poured a little chalk paint in a separate container with just a LITTLE water. Do this in a separate container not in the container it goes in, because whatever is left over for use at a later time can “spoil” mold etc.. so in separate tray and the little bit of water I applied a second coat all over and sheesh this made it go on like butter! Talk about smoothhh sheesh I was impressed and wondered why I didn’t use water the first coating, but honestly I think it was better to use its full consistency for the first coating and only use the batch with a little water for the second coating. It dries fast, did not disappoint at all and looks great. I used polyurethane the varathane brand in satin for the top coat and it did not yellow. I read a few reviews and people said theirs yellowed. I did a test area (which I would recommend on your desired piece) to insure it doesn’t yellow. I’m highly satisfied and will be painting my other nightstand and big dresser next!!! Happy DIY :)

It's both technique and wax ...
I was not overwhelmed with this product. But then, there were a few factors involved that might have been different if I had chosen a different color, or if the wax was brown and not black, or blended better. I bought the color gypsum, which to me is a pastel yellow. It seemed less yellow, more ivory but it is difficult to buy paint looking at a color chart on a computer screen. I painted two things, a small microwave cart with fairly straight lines, made of wood. And a nice wooden planter. The paint goes on great. Both items I cleaned very well, with soap and water, the first one with bleach and scrubbed both. I have had a lot of practice painting and staining various projects over the years.I've used used shellac, & other paints and did big jobs like painting the interior walls of my house -- never been disappointed. I spent about a month watching all sort of videos. But just doing it is the best way to go so I bought gypsum and the clear and dark wax and the special brush. The paint goes on great. One coat does cover everything and it covered a microwave cart with a top that had been stained, and the legs that had acrylic paint. It was when I tried the wax where I was disappointed. The clear wax is hard to tell that I had it on. I was expecting to see a little darkening, and to notice the areas where I put the wax. When I started to put the dark wax on -- yik. It just looked dirty. This company, Madame Gigi's Cottage, is great to work with. They are very receptive, and respond to questions. So I took some photos and their "expert" called me. One issue was my item was modern -- no creases in the wood to create that character. She told me to use paint thinner to get the wax off, and it worked very well. In the end, I just painted the cart's flat surfaces with chalkboard paint to make something interesting, and that came out really well. Two weeks later I decided to give it a try on a corner end wooden planter. After I cleaned it with soapy water and it dried, I was reluctant to paint it. The wood had aged so nicely, it had the exact type of shading that people go for when using chalk paint and wax. I debated whether to paint it and in the end, just painted the legs. Well, I should NOT have. Before I added the dark wax, I used sand paper on the edge, and boy I should have stopped there. But that is not the point of using chalk paint. My planter turned out with yellow legs and just looks dirty. I should have stopped with the sandpaper -- or not used this gypsum color at all. I think the issue with this brand is the wax is black and it probably would work out better if they had wax in a golden brown as well as black. The second piece I painted was perfect for chalk paint, and now I am trying to sand it off. I am not giving up on chalk paint, and ordered different colors in another brand. In my conversations with the seller they were to send me a placard with the colors on it, which I suggested they do and the expert said they did do -- I just didn't get one. Seeing the paint in person, even on a placard, is going to be more helpful than looking at it on computer screens. That was one reason why it took me so long to order, I felt I wasn't getting a decent view of the colors. For me is it probably part developing the technique for this kind of paint, and finding the right brand that will work for the type of projects I want. I didn't know you could do "wash" two different colors with chalk paint until I spent an hour looking at the website of the new paint I bought. Then there is also the cost factor. These paints are pricey, even the most reasonable brand is pricey. I don't know many who can afford to make too many mistakes practicing. When I talked to the "expert" she said I would receive a color chart in the mail. That was two weeks ago, and I still do not have a color chart. I think newcomers to chalk painting would have a better buying experience 1) if we could see a placard, even a small one like 8 1/2 X 11, with the colors on them and 2) there was two tones of wax offered. I do have a local Annie Sloan seller here where I live, but that is so costly I was hoping I cold find a more reasonable brand. Everything I ordered arrived well packaged but the clear wax which had spilled out onto its jar lid. Not bad when you consider it is paint. It was sealed with clips and covered in shrink wrap.

Retique It Ivory Tower Chalk Paint
Decided to redo all my cherrywood furniture from The Bombay Company from 30 years ago to get a fresh look. Started with my two bight stands. The small 16 ounce covered both nightstands and my curtain rod and braces and finials. Waiting for more to do dresser and lingere chest. I paint with a heavy hand, it likely would have gone even further if I had painted lighter or even thinned with a bit of water but my first attempt and am happy with results. Used Retique it stain on top and 2 clear coats of polycrylic and spray painted the hardware. Huge change!

Excellent product!
Excellent product! I have used it to paint cabinets and it looks fantastic! Easy to use and really nice coverage - I do recommend using a primer and giving the cabinets a good clean beforehand. Saved myself $$$$.

Sent wrong colour but paint is alright
The paint itself is good but I ordered Gothic grey and they sent me Greystone. I already used half by the time I realized.
