Really good gate

I'll start by saying that we now own four gates. This is the second-best one, and was the only pressure-mount gate with a door. The other pressure-mount gate we bought was fine, but not at all convenient for letting the dog go in and out since you have to fully take it down and then put it back up. If you plan on letting your child or dog or someone who can't easily climb over it walk through the gate sometimes, such that you want to be able to leave it open on occasion or easily open and close, this is a great gate to get. Very sturdy. Installation was easy, and no holes in the wall. We have a 40-inch opening, so it was hard to find another pressure-mounted gate with door to fit eh area without having to pay even more for extra extensions. With the two extensions this one came with, it worked fine. So great price. Also, since you adjust the pressure on the top and bottom mounts separately, the top and bottom can be slightly different widths, which is great for installing it on molding at the bottom of a wall or doorway. The only (minor) complaint I have about this gate is the handle/locking system for opening and closing it. Feels a little flimsy and awkward. Not as bad as the first gate I bought, but enough so that I wonder what will happen when our son starts really experimenting with trying to open it. But from what I've seen, it looks like the best pressure-mounted wide-space door gate on the market, and definitely at the best price.

I will buy it again if I need more

I bought this gate after reading reviews online for weeks. I have it only for a couple of months, but it looks well built and does not have obviously weak parts to break in the near future. I have two doorways between the living room and the kitchen. I first bought an auto-close gate of another popular brand, it looked so beatuiful but I soon found the latch's too easy to shake open. You can imagine if a light weight gate can swing back and lock itself, how weak the lock feature has to be. I ended up tighting the gate to the point that nobody can open it. I cannot block both doorways like that, so I picked this gate for the other doorway. I can open and close the gate with one hand while carrying my child in the other. My 18 month old (she is very tall an strong in her age group) cannot open the gate though she can reach the latch, because the latch is very tight. The gate is easy to install and stay in place well. After my child went to bed, I can keep the door open. The openning is narrow, but my husband and I have no problem going through (we are middle size, both at around 150 pounds). This can be a PERFECT gate, but another mom's review about her child's hand got badly hurt by the tight latch concerns me. I tried myself and feel this type of event may not likely to happen but still possible. Anyway, the door is less dangerous than a regular door. While my child go through bedroom doors everyday and may get her fingers caught by those doors at any time (I need to child proof my doors soon), she rarely tries to go through this gate because she knows that she is not supposed to. I think I will train her to open the gate with both hands when she is old enough. Opening it with one hand is definitly more dangerous for children due to their less mature motor skills. This gate also has an extra tall version that may keep your children's fingers safe a little bit longer.

Doesn't really fit 44" wide doorways.

I first wanted this because I am trying to replace the gates I have that screw into the wall. All of mine kept falling out of the walls (probably due to some installation error on my end, but I didn't feel like messing with it). I bought this to go between the living room and the front door/hallway to keep my Siberian Huskies from bolting or bothering me whenever I dealt with business at the front door and also keep them out of the bedrooms/bathrooms. My opening is 44" exactly between the front door and living room and these have to screw so far out that the threads "kink" where they go into the gate causing it to mostly just fall over with not even a firm push. With huskies that like to play rough and occasionally babysitting children this obviously wouldn't work. I eventually settled for it to go to the entrance to my hallway which fits with the smallest extension and only has the threads around half-way out. This is a rather tight install but with my newer walls and paint(this house was built 1 year ago) the top end slides slowly along the wall with a firm push or pull by an adult. If they gripped the wall better I probably wouldn't have this problem. It is impossible to get the top rock solid because of the way the gap for the gate works. The bottom has no problem. Giving it one star because it didn't fit correctly in the space given even though it's advertised to, and once I put it in a place that it DID fit it still slides around some. EDIT: Well I've had this gate for several months now and I do like it a lot more than my other gates I had previously even though it didn't do what I wanted. I've had to move into my parents home again and keep the gate in front of my bedroom door inside the frame (but I still can close the door behind it and leave the gate up which is really nice so I'm not constantly taking it down and putting it up). The top doesn't really need to be rock solid and I do hate that I have to push it against the frame to keep it from popping out from time to time (sometimes more if my dogs are feeling especially energetic). I am also now expecting my first child and hope this stands up to the task of a child. It's so easy to use though and I'm happier with it now than I was when I first got it, so I revised my review to 3 stars instead of 1.

ATENCIÓN!

Antes de comprarla investigue un poco los comentarios de esta puerta y vi uno que mencionaba que su hijo se había cortado por una rebaba que tenia pegada, por lo cual al llegar lo primero que hice fue inspeccionarla y ¡sorpresa! Que la mía la tenía también. Trate de quitársela con la mano pero viene como soldada por lo que tendré que utilizar una lima ya que esta filosa. En general la puerta funciona bien, la uso a su máxima capacidad de extensión por lo que al recargarme tengo miedo que pueda caerse pero hasta el momento se ha sujetado bien. Para tener una mejor sujeción a la pared compre en Amazon de EUA un producto llamado “baby gate wall cups” de la marca VMAISI los cuales se colocan en la pared para que quede mejor sujeta la puerta. Vienen 2 chicos y 2 grandes (los chicos van en la parte inferior). Agregaré una foto para que puedan verlos. El conjunto de estos dos productos (reja y conectores) ha funcionado bien en mi casa. La puerta es fácil de instalar y también de abrir con una mano. Me hubiera gustado que la “chapa” fuera metálica, es de plástico.

Keeps the pup away from my cats

My doorway is 80cm wide and the gate was just slightly too wide to fit. So we placed it between the door frame and the doors. In the gap under the hinge. It fits perfectly now, and my dog's already tested its strength, and I'm happy with its sturdiness. Unfortunately, we can't close the door. But at least this gate saves us from having to drill holes into the doorframe. Note: My older dog can jump over it. We don't mind, since the gate is meant to keep the pup away from the cats, and she can't jump that high. But it's something to consider. My older dog is a lab mix.

Doing a great job !

Have just bought it today and installed it. Installation is fairly easy, about 10-15 minutes. Even though there are one or two niggles, 5 stars because of how sturdy it is. We have twin one-year olds who have somehow gained the strength of Tarzans (two of them!) even though I am a weedy guy. Within minutes of installing it, they quality-tested each and every inch of the gate looking for a weakness. It's held steady and strong (so far ;-) ). The niggles were : Our kitchen doorway is at an awkward width of 34 inches. So stand-alone gate is too small for that width and with an extension is too big. I have improvised by not putting a screw at the top right corner. The latch is very tight. That's good so the kids can't open it but needs 2 hands so you can't come out of the kitchen holding a dish. Still 5 stars because of the sturdiness of Americana :-).

Not durable, already broken!

I was using this to keep the restrict access to the dog. The mechanism of this gate failed months ago and had to purchase a replacement gate. Very disappointed with the sturdiness... only adults using the gate and the dog never even leaned up against it. I would appreciate a refund for this item as I've been out of pocket with another...

Muy débil y poco estable

Reemplacé mi reja Munchkin por esta de marca Regalo y me arrepentí, no hay comparación. Francamente es muy débil. Para empezar, es muy difícil sujetarla a presión y con suficiente fuerza a la pared porque las tuercas vienen con una cubierta de plástico supuestamente para hacer más fácil apretar la reja con las manos y así evitar tener que usar una llave inglesa. Sin embargo, al colocarse la reja al ras del piso pues se dificulta la maniobra, lo mismo ocurre si está pegada a la pared; lo cual siempre ocurre pues si no ¿en dónde podrías la reja? Entonces, tuve que cambiar esas tuercas de plástico por unas normales, es decir, las hexagonales que venden en cualquier ferretería y que se aprietan con llave inglesa. Pues bien, sólo así logré que la reja no se estuviera cayendo casi diario, no obstante se sigue sintiendo relativamente frágil, y la cuestión es que debería tener la suficiente firmeza para aguantar el apoyo de un bebé de 2 años. En fin, no la recomiendo ya que no sólo es molesto tener que ajustarla regularmente, sino que hasta puede llegar a ser peligroso para los niños. Ni se les ocurra ponerla como protección de una escalera, pues aunque para esos caso sí se tiene que atornillar a la pared, como les indiqué, el material es muy débil, así que mejor no exponerse.
